Since the Beetle, Volkswagen has been enabling affordable mobility for millions of people with compact and likeable cars. With the ID. EVERY1 concept car, the German car manufacturer is now showing an entry-level all-electric model. Volkswagen will launch the production version in 2027 – with a starting price of around 20,000 euros. The ID. 2all will already be launched in the 25,000-euro class in 2026. Both models are part of the new Electric Urban Car Family with front-wheel drive, which is being developed on a cross-brand basis under the umbrella of the Brand Group Core – comprising the volume brands in the Volkswagen Group. They are based on Volkswagen’s new modular electric drive platform: the MEB with front-wheel drive.

00:00For us, as design team, it was super exciting working on that project.
00:08And we were given more freedom than ever before.
00:13And the task was simple.
00:15To create a car for everyone.
00:19But who's everyone?
00:22This time, we did not start sketching in the first step.
00:28We focused on the people.
00:31So we condensed this wide range of people into three groups.
00:39The first, called the urban group.
00:42The ones who live in cities or just want to enjoy the flexibility.
00:48And all that advantage a small car brings.
00:53Second, the entertainment group.
00:57Young and old, the ones who simply want to have fun driving that car.
01:04And third, our daily heroes.
01:08Such as caretakers or delivery services.
01:13So we listened carefully to all of that groups.
01:17And we took everything we heard to connect with our design values.
01:25To create a true Volkswagen.
01:29So then, we started with the creative process.
01:33And since the beginning, there were many different paths.
01:38But something fascinating happened.
01:41At a certain point, everything came together.
01:45And the car kind of designed by itself.
01:50When we take a look at the side of the car, for example.
01:53We can clearly see these striking proportions.
01:57The focus on the stance, the powerful muscle of the car looks clean.
02:02But it also looks solid, stable.
02:05Therefore, it's also looking safe.
02:08But this car is compact on the outside.
02:13But it's actually quite roomy on the inside.
02:17So this gave us the chance to develop as well a flexible and modular interior.
02:25But when we take a look at the front of the car now.
02:29Then you can see the charming, the charismatic character.
02:33This positive face.
02:35But the car still always looks friendly.
02:38But confident, wide, really, really stable.
02:41And these lights, they speak with you.
02:44Because the car is your friend.
02:46But also, what I find quite unique about this car.
02:50Is the fact that the structure, the architecture.
02:54Which you see here in the front.
02:56With the volumes and with the light graphics as well.
03:00We actually carried over to the rear.
03:03This is creating a really seamless design connection to the car.
03:07Front to the back.
03:10But my favorite part of the car.
03:13It's actually not the way it looks.
03:16It's the fact that when our colleagues seen the show car for the first time.
03:21They all found it so easy to understand.
03:24So simple to read.
03:26That they were actually explaining the design to us.
03:30Without us having to say anything.
03:35And I think that for a designer.
03:38This is the best feedback which you can have.
03:42And what also fascinated me.
03:45Was how all that thoughts.
03:48And all that passion.
03:51Of the complete different people involved in the team.
03:56Somehow crystallized in this car.
04:01And we all knew.
04:05That this is it.
04:07We nailed it.
