In a significant move, the Maharashtra government has announced the construction of memorials for Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji Maharaj, and Maratha warriors in various locations, including Agra, Panipat, and Sangameshwar. The announcement was made during the budget presentation, where special provisions were allocated for the construction of these memorials. In Agra, a memorial will be built for Shivaji Maharaj, while Panipat will have a memorial for Maratha soldiers. Sangameshwar, Maharashtra, will see the construction of a memorial dedicated to Sambhaji Maharaj, who was brutally murdered by Aurangzeb on this day in 1689. The government’s decision aims to honor the legacy of these iconic figures, with specific emphasis on Sambhaji Maharaj’s sacrifices. The memorial will be erected in Sangameshwar, the place where Sambhaji Maharaj endured torture for 40 days before his death. Maharashtra's government has promised that the local community, including the family members of Sambhaji Maharaj, will be given recognition and participation in the memorial's development. Maharashtrian leader Abu Azmi also paid tribute to Sambhaji Maharaj on his martyrdom day, calling him a valiant warrior and a hero. However, Azmi's praise of Sambhaji Maharaj has sparked political debates, further intensifying Maharashtra’s ongoing political drama.
