00:00And at this point, we will discuss an update on the programs of the current administration here in Mr. President on the go.
00:21First of all, fellow countrymen, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said that people-to-people exchanges between the Philippines and the United Kingdom can be strengthened
00:31due to the strong partnership between the two countries.
00:34This was the statement of President Marcos Jr. to their former Assistant Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, David Lamey of Malacanang.
00:46The President mentioned the increase in the number of Filipinos living and working in the UK.
00:52He said that the UK-based Filipinos are grateful to the UK for how they were welcomed in the country.
01:00According to the President, this is a clear indication of how strong the relationship between the two countries is in many areas.
01:08That is why the official's visit is a symbol of strengthening their relationship.
01:14It is estimated that 200,000 Filipinos are in the UK, working in various sectors, including IT, aviation, hospitality and service, and healthcare.
01:24Since 2001, the number of Filipino engineers and IT experts working in British telecommunications, software, and e-commerce solution companies has increased.
01:35Lamey is in the Philippines to promote the enhanced partnership between the Philippines and the UK.
01:43The two leaders discussed issues related to trade and investments, maritime, climate change, and the environment.
01:50The formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the UK were established on July 4, 1946.
