00:00It finally happened. Steelers GM Omar Khan picked up his phone, called the Seattle Seahawks and
00:05said let me have DK Metcalf. That gives the Steelers 2 dominant wide receivers on the perimeter
00:12but it also raises a lot of questions about what happens next in Pittsburgh.
00:20Hey everyone Rob Gregson of A-Z Sports Pittsburgh and today we're going to discuss the fallout of
00:25the DK Metcalf trade. To begin it starts with the quarterback position. On Sunday rumors were flying
00:33left and right. We heard much of what we already knew about Justin Fields which is that he wants
00:38to test the free agent market before he decides whether or not he's going to come back to
00:44Pittsburgh. Part of that stems from the fact that they benched him in 2024 and gave him little
00:50confidence that they won't do the exact same thing if not draft his successor come April.
00:57So the question is is it going to be Justin Fields? Is it going to be Russell Wilson who
01:02suddenly could be back with a wide receiver that he helped go to the Pro Bowl? Or could this be a
01:10play for something even bigger for a name like Sam Darnold? That's right multiple reports surfaced
01:17on Sunday that the Steelers are interested in acquiring Sam Darnold and before it was reported
01:24that the Steelers were interested guess who Sam Darnold was being linked to in free agency? Oh
01:28that's right the Seattle Seahawks who now have no real options other than Jackson Smith and Jigba
01:36in their wide receiver room and they are in a complete and utter rebuild. I don't know about
01:41you but Sam Darnold probably wants to mimic a situation that he just left in Minnesota and the
01:47Pittsburgh Steelers are a lot closer to that than they are the Seattle Seahawks. Beyond the quarterback
01:53questions however what happens next with George Pickens is a major question that the Steelers
01:59have to answer. Obviously Pickens is an immense talent and for the most part we've been talking
02:04about adding talent to go alongside George Pickens. But here's the thing DK Metcalf just
02:10signed a five-year 150 million dollar extension and has two years left on his remaining deal.
02:17That means he's going to be the Steelers wide receiver number one until he's 33 years old.
02:24All the while George Pickens is heading into the final year of his contract with no extension in
02:30sight. That raises a lot of questions obviously we're going into year four for Pickens the maturity
02:36issues they haven't gotten better quite frankly they have regressed for Pickens. So the Steelers
02:43have to decide are they going to trade him now are they going to let him play out his final year of
02:48his rookie deal and then try and trade him or tag and trade him or maybe he shapes up and sign him
02:56to an extension or does somebody come along now that they've signed DK Metcalf and offer a deal
03:03for George Pickens and they say here he's your problem now because as good as he is he is a major
03:09headache for the Steelers. So those are two questions that immediately following the DK
03:14Metcalf trade every Steelers fan is going to want the answer to and we should find out soon enough.
