Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was "taken aback" by RM42mil that came into his personal bank accounts in 2015, the High Court heard on Monday (March 10).

Former Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd (IPSB) managing director Datuk Dr Shamsul Anwar Sulaiman testified that he received a call from Najib while he was travelling to Brussels some time in July 2015.

00:00Former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was reportedly taken aback by
00:07the 42 million ringgit that entered his personal bank accounts in 2015, according to testimony
00:14at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday.
00:16Datuk Dr Shamsul Anwar Sulaiman, former managing director of Ihsan Perdana Sendirian Berhad
00:22or IPSB, testified that Najib called him in July 2015 while he was travelling to Brussels.
00:30During this call, Najib inquired whether Dr Shamsul had made three specific remittances,
00:36which Dr Shamsul confirmed.
00:38Dr Shamsul explained that at the time of processing these transactions, he was unaware of the
00:44identity of the account holders.
00:47He said he followed instructions from Ong Su Ling, former CEO of Yayasan Rakyat 1 Malaysia,
00:53and Dennis See, former YR1M project director.
00:57Dr Shamsul noted that following their payment directions for CSR programs was standard procedure
01:03for him.
01:04IPSB, which served as the charitable arm of 1 Malaysia Development Berhad, was established
01:10for social welfare initiatives, and received funding from both 1MDB and Yayasan Rakyat
01:161 Malaysia.
01:18Najib faces 25 charges in this case, four counts of abusing his position to secure RM2.3
01:25billion of 1MDB funds as bribes and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same amount.
01:33The hearing is scheduled to continue on Tuesday before Justice Colin Lawrence Sequeira, who
01:38is now an appeals court judge.
