Transcript
00:00:00All right, we have some news coming in this morning former central banker Mark Carney has become Canada's next prime minister
00:00:07After the governing Liberal Party elected him its leader its leader on Sunday
00:00:13this
00:00:14President Donald Trump's trade war and annexation threat and a federal election looms
00:00:21Carney 59 replaces Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who announced his resignation in January
00:00:27But remains prime minister until his successor is sworn in in the next few days
00:00:31Carney won in a landslide winning 85.9
00:00:36Of the vote he'll be getting you more updates on that big story
00:00:39But we're talking about the announcement of the former central banker mark carney as the new canadian prime minister as a successor
00:00:47to justin trudeau
00:00:50The canadian government
00:00:52Has rightly retaliated and is rightly retaliating with our own tariffs that will have maximum impact in the united states and minimum
00:01:00impact here in canada
00:01:03And my government will keep our tariffs on until the americans show us respect
00:01:12All right, i'm going to go straight across to shashank mattu for more details
00:01:16On that story at this point in time shashank
00:01:19Just take us to the highlights of this new appointment. The former central banker is the new prime minister of canada
00:01:27Yeah, so uh mark carney is the former governor of the bank of canada and
00:01:33The bank of england. He's widely acknowledged to be a rock star economist. That's the label that's often
00:01:38Assigned to him. He was very much an outsider in this year's election campaign
00:01:43There have been rumors swirling for several years that mark carney was considering
00:01:46A jump into electoral politics. Justin trudeau had earlier tried to recruit him as his finance minister
00:01:53But mark carney always had his eye on becoming prime minister with an ambition that he has now
00:01:59Achieved in his speech, you know
00:02:01He has had this unique opportunity both of replacing justin trudeau and distancing himself from justin trudeau's legacy in some ways because
00:02:08Trudeau has become extremely unpopular given the fact that the liberal party is now headed
00:02:13Into an election it needs to keep a majority in place and it is facing a tough challenge from the opposition conservative party
00:02:20So mark carney in his victory speech, uh used his credentials as an economist
00:02:24Distance himself from a lot of proposals that have made justin trudeau extremely unpopular
00:02:29but he also promised to stand up to donald trump who is president of the united states and
00:02:34Who in the minds of many canadians is trying to bully canada by saying that it will become?
00:02:39America's 51st state and so on and so forth
00:02:42This has given a major poll boost to justin trudeau and the liberal party and now mark carney
00:02:46Has to take up that mantle and lead the party to an election victory
00:02:50So definitely an outsider coming in from nowhere
00:02:53And has taken up the mantle of leadership of the liberal party and will now become canada's prime minister
00:02:59All right
00:03:00I'm going to thank you shashank mattu getting us those details and putting that important story into perspective a new appointment
00:03:06In canada and the impact of fittest power as the relationship between america and canada is concerned
00:03:28And it was a shared dream of an entire nation a shared emotion that made a billion people dance
00:03:33A glorious moment 12 years in the making in dubai
00:03:37India were crowned winners of the champion's trophy for a record third time as the trophy went up cricket fans jumped with
00:03:44Joy to celebrate the second cricketing coronation in nine months
00:03:49After the heartbreak of 2023 the latest win puts india on course for complete domination in white ball cricket
00:03:56Well, after all they are now holders of two of the three major white ball icc trophies
00:04:04Last three icc tournaments that they played in limited over
00:04:08Right from the beginning. I thought uh, you know our spinners in particular, uh, you know
00:04:14just
00:04:15There's too much expectations, you know when you're playing on a pitch like that, but they
00:04:19Never disappointed. Um, you know, they we do understand their strength playing on pitches like this
00:04:25Uh, and it helped them and we used that to our advantage. We played some really good cricket
00:04:30And throughout the tournament in terms of our bowling we were very very consistent. Yeah, look again a very very solid mind, uh,
00:04:37never gets
00:04:40Overrode by the pressure around him. Uh, that is why that is the reason we wanted to happen
00:04:45In that middle phase, uh, and you know, try and finish off the game for us
00:04:50You know with this experience with his class, uh, there's a bit of calmness when he bats
00:04:54Uh, and he picks the right
00:04:56Uh, you know short to play in the pressure situation which obviously allows the other guys who are batting around him
00:05:03Uh, you know to come out come out and play freely
00:05:05Uh, for example hardik, you know came out and played some really good shot in both games
00:05:10Uh that actually, you know gave us a little bit of breather. Uh, but again, uh, you know the overall
00:05:16Batsmanship that was shown by all our batters throughout the tournament was superb. Yeah for sure
00:05:21I mean, you know, these are the things after playing for so long such a long career
00:05:25You look forward to situations where you're put under pressure and you walk in and you put your hand up
00:05:29And I think to win titles which has kind of been missing in the past
00:05:32The whole team has to step up in different games
00:05:35And if you see this tournament over the course of five matches
00:05:37Everyone has put their hand up somewhere or the other and that's why we ended up winning
00:05:41uh this tournament and and people have made such impactful knocks such impactful spells
00:05:47And um, it's only a collective effort that can win you a title
00:05:51And i'm just so happy that we were able to play as a unit just really enjoy ourselves
00:05:55We've had such an amazing time as a team here in practice sessions off the field on the field
00:06:00It's been honestly an amazing amazing tournament for us. Obviously. It's always amazing to win
00:06:05ICC event and especially champions trophy, you know, I remember 2017 very closely to my heart
00:06:11Uh, we could not finish out the job that that time
00:06:14But very very pleased with the way we have played throughout the tournament and at the same point of time how everyone contributed
00:06:20That was fantastic. Brilliant, you know, that was calm composed, you know, he took his chances at the right point of time
00:06:26I think this is what KL Rahul is, you know
00:06:28KL Rahul has immense talent and I don't think anyone can hit the ball the way he can
00:06:33Uh, you know, I think that was just an exhibition of how he did today
00:06:49Is
00:07:20Team india, I don't think I can say this on camera, but I was shooting myself
00:07:24uh at the end, but
00:07:26We still had a couple of battles to come. So, um
00:07:29Yeah, I was I was confident that we could uh get over the line
00:07:33But yeah in in moments like this and big games. It's more about holding your composure which we all know about it
00:07:39but it's not as
00:07:40It's not easy. But um, yeah
00:07:43Yeah, happy to be happy to win this and happy to get over the line this time. I think i've batted in
00:07:49In times like this in in three out of the five games and one of the games I didn't get to bat at all
00:07:54against pakistan, so
00:07:55uh, yeah, but
00:07:57You know the the game's given me good time in the middle and uh good time to prepare for
00:08:01For a big moment like this. Yeah, it's it's been a good tournament. Um,
00:08:05you know, I guess we came here at the start to
00:08:08You know, I guess we had challenged along the way
00:08:09But I think the way we've kind of grown as a group and we're playing some good cricket at the end of the day
00:08:13And we just got I guess we got beaten by a good side who turned up today
00:08:17But you know a lot of good stuff
00:08:18Um from our group, you know guys stepping up at different times. Um, I think everyone, you know contributed throughout this whole tour
00:08:24That's all you can ask for is I guess as a
00:08:29Yeah, I think it was it was good bowling, um
00:08:31I think yeah, we lost a couple wickets kind of just after the power play and um,
00:08:35And then yeah, they really got the squeeze on and it looked challenging to start and get away. I think you know
00:08:41The way these spinners bowled all four of them world-class bowlers and they showed that again today and I think
00:08:47Yeah, I guess we were probably 20 under or maybe 25 under of what we wanted to get
00:08:51But um, we knew we had a we had a total and we were trying to fight and that's all we did
00:08:58And the indian team has emerged as a champion of the champions after three grinding weeks of cricket the indian team has emerged winners
00:09:05Of the champions trophy making them the most successful team in the tournament's history. Here's how india scripted history in the final
00:09:12And
00:09:16New zealand were off to a flying start with drachan ravindra taking a liking to hardik pandya
00:09:21Smashing him for 14 in the fourth over over the rope momentum for new zealand
00:09:28However varun chakravarti drew first blood as he trapped will young
00:09:33Taking a piece of leg and given out to do
00:09:36Kuldeep yadav then produced a jaffa on the opening delivery of his spell as he sent ravindra packing with the wrong arm
00:09:45He needed that wicket
00:09:48That's a good hit glen phillips and daryl mitchell revived new zealand's innings with a solid partnership leaving india searching for options
00:09:56short pulled
00:09:59But the men in blue made an impressive comeback limiting new zealand to a modest total in the crunch final
00:10:08Wicked they want to because
00:10:11I don't think he's quick enough
00:10:14Rohit sharma got india off to a brisk start in the chase
00:10:19Sitting the tide at the top. He looked switched on and picked the app deliveries to attack
00:10:25And all the way for six
00:10:29Rohit raced to his half century in just 41 balls with the captain stepping up at the right time for the men in blue
00:10:36Shreya saigar then took charge and put india's innings back on track
00:10:41Later new zealand produced another top-notch effort in the field as ier fell just two runs short of his 50
00:10:50The finish became a little nervy as hardik pandya departed
00:10:54Skaino is not over yet, but india were now within touching distance
00:11:00The glorious moment took some time to come but india after 12 long years became winners of the champion's trophy
00:11:12And it's another icc sports bureau india today champions
00:11:17And
00:11:20Sunil gavaskar sang praises for the indian team after their champions trophy victory calling them the best white ball team on the planet
00:11:28Gavaskar also expressed that the team's blessed with multiple match winners listening to this exclusive conversation
00:11:36I'm still taking this big call and tell me if i'm correct or not. Is india the best white ball team on the planet?
00:11:43without a question
00:11:45Anything that gets into all the three finals
00:11:51And now the champions trophy without a question they have to be the best white ball team on the planet no doubt whatsoever
00:11:59about that
00:12:02Yes, but uh
00:12:05Able to get in all the finals at home. There was no home advantage in all those other places yet india won. So clearly I think
00:12:13Uh india without a question is the best white ball team at the moment in the world talkers
00:12:18Through the supporting cast because that's another standout feature and we've seen every time a team wins a world cup like event
00:12:25There has to be multiple heroes and that's exactly what we've seen. Uh, three names that come to my mind right now
00:12:30Uh one of akshar patel he's picked up wickets must be in the top 15 wicket takers
00:12:35He's got some runs must be in probably top 15 run getters as well
00:12:39The shreya saiyar second highest run getter of this tournament and remember he's not an opener
00:12:43Rachan ravindra has gone ahead one inning less but an opener or you at least get one two or three
00:12:47He's still coming down at the order and getting you those tough runs third one
00:12:51K.l. Rahul till the start of the tournament was quiet
00:12:54Now the semi-final and the final has played two crucial roles. Tell us about these three players and their supporting
00:13:02Yes, I was going to get to the bowlers another question for that
00:13:04We're not calling as well as a matter. I mean, he's got 100 and then he got 85
00:13:07So it just tells you that look when it was needed. He was he he held the team together
00:13:13At a time when you know, the top order had not delivered
00:13:16So, I mean all these, you know players if you have a situation with five six players have been match winners for you
00:13:23Then it's it's bound to me that your team is going to go on to win because you always have somebody or the other
00:13:27Who is going to be able to you know, bring this bring the team out from a tricky situation
00:13:33Varun Chakravarty is bowled well Shreya Sayyar the way he kept his cool Akshay Patel as well
00:13:38You know, maybe a shot was a little I I know I wasn't very happy with the shot while I was in commentary
00:13:44But he's batted well, he's bowled well and and the run out he had
00:13:48In the in the in the first game. Yes. So clearly I think it just tells you that
00:13:53Here is a here is another cricketer who can be relied on relied on because you know in a situation
00:13:59Where it is needed to keep your head he did keep keep his head he can sometimes get a bit carried away
00:14:05And and and play a shot like he did today
00:14:07Which is this this really is not the easiest of shots to play because you know, there's not a you know
00:14:12This is a flow here. Your arm gets just a little bit locked. So
00:14:17Otherwise he would have finished the match. He would have been unbeaten. He would have got a half century as well
00:14:21Yeah, never mind. I think overall he's done magnificently
00:14:25So these are the guys who have done
00:14:27Exceedingly well and that augurs augurs also superbly for india in the future that all these players have still got plenty of years
00:14:34left in in international
00:14:39And in the space of just nine months india have won two icc titles both coming under the leadership of Rohit Sharma
00:14:45From there being doubts about his future
00:14:47In the team to guiding the team to silverware to even stating that he ain't going anywhere from the cricket scene
00:14:54Capturing the last few weeks in the life of the indian captain
00:15:05In the build-up to the mega champions trophy final Rohit Sharma's name became a buzzword
00:15:11More than his modest returns with the bat the chorus about his retirement
00:15:16dominated headlines
00:15:19A month back too there were some speculating the same
00:15:24What kind of a question is that?
00:15:28This is a different format different time
00:15:35As usual
00:15:36As cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs and I have faced a lot in my career. So
00:15:43This is nothing new to me. Uh
00:15:45We know uh, every day is a fresh day. Every series is a fresh series
00:15:51So yeah, I would i'm looking forward to the challenge
00:15:54Not looking at what has happened in the past
00:15:57um
00:15:58Clearly
00:15:59You don't
00:16:01When chumman gill turned up for the press conference on the eve of the match. He dispelled all rumors
00:16:06Is
00:16:26As Rohit Sharma came out of bat at the dubai international cricket stadium with hopes pinned on him
00:16:32He played as if he was unaware of what was being said about him
00:16:38Taking matters into his own hands and setting the platform for the indian team
00:16:49Against santana, he held his ground and played the waiting game
00:16:55Contrary to what many have to say about his patience
00:16:59The way he played today made one question what could have been had he played the same way on the 19th of november
00:17:072023
00:17:16Rohit could have been at par with msd with most icc titles for india
00:17:21But after today's win he can proudly say that he is india's second most successful cricketer
00:17:26second most successful captain
00:17:31In all of this the hitman's heroics with the bat should not be forgotten
00:17:35second fastest to 11,000 odi runs
00:17:38Most double hundreds in odi cricket and most turns in a single edition of the world cup are just some of his notable achievements
00:17:50We talk about emperor coley we talk about joe rude we talk about williamson we talk about babar azam
00:17:56But this guy is different. Yeah, because
00:17:59It makes look batting so easy. That's just brilliant. I love watching. I could watch him bat all day and
00:18:05I've been on the receiving end of a double hundred from him
00:18:08It's almost one of those things where you go
00:18:10That was amazing. Can I watch that again?
00:18:13If we could change the result i'd watch that every day
00:18:17He smiled big after getting his hands on the trophy that was missing from his cabinet
00:18:23Congratulations and later made a statement that helped cricket fans
00:18:28sleep better
00:18:30And there it is one more thing. Uh
00:18:33I'm not going to retire from this format just to make sure
00:18:37That no rumors are spread. Uh
00:18:40Moving forward. Okay guys. Thank you so much
00:18:43Rowan's glorious legacy now has another golden chapter as the country comes together
00:18:49to hail the hitman
00:18:51India sports bureau india today
00:19:00And 1983 world cup winning hero sunil gavaskar and couple they couldn't control that excitement after india's
00:19:07Champions trophy win while couple they shook a leg inside the india today studios after the game our colleague nikhil nas
00:19:14Caught up with sunil gavaskar who decided to also show his dance moves
00:19:18celebrating india's
00:19:20Sympathetic win over gds in dubai
00:19:22Foreign
00:19:24Foreign
00:19:49And world cup winning captain couple they lauded
00:19:52Rohit sharma both for his impressive leadership and batting after india's record-setting champions trophy win
00:19:59Couple also added that rohit's big hitting ability is second to none in international cricket. Listen into this exclusive conversation
00:20:08Congratulations to you mr. Kapil or to everybody everybody in the country
00:20:12I think this type of a win brings so much happiness around you can see the smiling face
00:20:19I think fantastic these type of things. You can't plan something
00:20:24When it happened and you can see the people's face
00:20:27They want to say something they can't say because they don't know what to say
00:20:31They have 10 line in one line. They want to say 10 line. Yeah, I think it's fantastic victory like this
00:20:39Required when they play bad cricket two series in australia and india against new zealand and australia
00:20:46Now yet they come back and play such fantastic cricket I think oh
00:20:51There's no word to express you said, you know
00:20:54You find you you're always looking for multiple ways of expressing such feelings 10 lines come to your mind
00:20:59But in one line if you could describe the best, um in the best possible manner in that one line
00:21:04The whole winning feeling right now, what would that be english is not my language
00:21:11So I can't say that
00:21:14Yeah, that's one and if you say yes, they made us proud
00:21:21Rao over no pakistan board officials at the presentation
00:21:25Controversy erupts after pcb official's absence at the city presentation ceremony
00:21:31This is a controversy which is erupted on sunday over the failure of the issc to invite
00:21:36A pakistan cricket board official on stage for the closing ceremony of the champions trophy in dubai
00:21:42A source said that the pcb's chief executive officer sumair ahmed was also the director of the tournament
00:21:49Was present in the venue, but was not invited for the ceremony
00:22:00Gicc, uh champions trophy
00:22:12Host
00:22:25It is beyond me point, uh
00:22:29To think about it, please
00:22:31Uh world stage
00:22:34But sadly I could not see any pakistan cricket board member out there
00:22:41Hosted by us and yet there is nobody there
00:22:45Think about it
00:22:46Been very down to see that
00:22:49in fact
00:22:49Those concerns are being voiced right now in pakistan saying that no official from the pakistan cricket board was at the presentation
00:22:56Of the champions trophy the ceremony that took place last night when india lifted the trophy
00:23:02But this controversy has broken out with the host country, which was pakistan not being represented and not being
00:23:09At the venue was not invited for the ceremony. In fact, the sources said that the pcb's chief executive officer
00:23:16Sumair ahmed who's also the director of the tournament was present at the venue, but was not
00:23:23Invited it's a controversy that has erupted over the pakistan cricket board's officials absence
00:23:29at the champions trophy presentation
00:23:31Certainly
00:23:35Gicc, uh champions trophy
00:24:01It is beyond me point, uh
00:24:05To think about it, please
00:24:07Uh world stage
00:24:10But sadly I could not see any pakistan cricket board member out there
00:24:15or
00:24:16He hosted by us and yet there is nobody there
00:24:20Think about it
00:24:22Been very down to see that
00:24:24I'm going to go straight across to india today's managing editor gaurav sahab and joining us this morning
00:24:29Gaurav, give us a sense of what has happened here
00:24:31What are your sources indicating about why was the officer in question here?
00:24:35Sumair ahmed who is in fact was at the venue, but was not invited for the ceremony
00:24:41So we are still to hear either from the icc or the bcci on this
00:24:46Because you know when that spectacular ceremony took place, uh after india's, uh, you know win
00:24:52You saw how icc chairman jay shah was there bcci president roger when he was on stage bcci secretary devjit saikyan
00:24:59He was on stage. Uh, and and were others but uh,
00:25:04And when the presentation ceremony happened, uh, you had people from aramco
00:25:09And emirates who were there. However, pakistan wasn't so there are two things that we've been told as of now
00:25:15But this is source based information. Uh, we've been told pcb chairman mohsin naqvi
00:25:20He wasn't in dubai because he's also remember he's a federal minister in pakistan
00:25:24He's the home minister of pakistan the federal minister for interior. So he had his interior ministry. Uh, uh,
00:25:30You know commitments in pakistan, uh, given the fact that pakistan is burning inside right now
00:25:35There is there is kiosk in various uh corners of pakistan not just restricted to khyber pakhtunkhwa and balochistan
00:25:41But even in other parts, so perhaps that's the reason he wasn't there. Um, we don't know why he didn't come
00:25:47What we do know is the pcb's chief executive. So very much was said
00:25:52He's also the director of the tournament as you rightly pointed out. He was also there at the venue
00:25:57But why wasn't he there for the presentation ceremony? Um, you know often of a champion's trophy that was to be hosted
00:26:04That was hosted by pakistan, but india's matches were held in dubai as you rightly know
00:26:08Uh, you know pakistan being a state sponsor of radical islamist terror india does not play in pakistan
00:26:14So india matches were all to be held in dubai. So that was clear
00:26:17Um, you know, even when the agreement happened, but why wasn't any pcb chairman invited for the award?
00:26:23A pcb official invited for the award ceremony is something we'll seek more information too
00:26:28But perhaps, you know, it's a lesson for pakistan that uh supporting radical islamist terror does make them an outcast in the civilized world
00:26:37All right, gaurav. I'm going to thank you for the moment for getting in those details putting that story into perspective
00:26:44Yet to hear officially about what really happened, but undoubtedly it's an embarrassment to pakistan
00:26:49Their representative not invited on stage when the trophy was being given out to the winning country india
00:26:55This was a country that was hosting the champion's trophy and was unable to even host the finals
00:27:01So
00:27:09More news coming in skipper rohit sharma won't retire from odis
00:27:14Rohit sharma says not retiring from one day cricket format or one day international format captain rohit says don't spread
00:27:22Retirement rumors when asked questions about the same
00:27:31One more thing, uh
00:27:34I'm not going to retire from this format just to make sure
00:27:38That no rumors are spread
00:27:41Moving forward. Okay guys. Thank you so much one more thing. Uh
00:27:45I'm not going to retire from this format just to make sure
00:27:49That no rumors are spread
00:27:52Moving forward. Okay guys. Thank you so much
00:27:55So
00:27:57The men in blue became champion of champions
00:28:00It was a shared dream of an entire nation a shared emotion that made a billion people dance the glorious moment
00:28:0612 years in the making in dubai india were crowned winners of the champion's trophy for a record third time
00:28:12Team india won the champion's trophy defeating new zealand by four wickets in a thrilling final
00:28:18For last tonight in fact last night after the heartbreak of 2023 the latest win puts india
00:28:24On course for complete domination in white ball cricket
00:28:28After all, they're now holders of two of the three major white ball icc trophies
00:28:33Name player of the match rohit sharma dismissed all speculations of retirement asserting that he is going to continue playing the odi format
00:28:42But
00:28:44Right from the beginning I thought uh, you know our spinners in particular, uh, you know
00:28:50just
00:28:51There's too much expectations, you know when you're playing on a pitch like that, but they
00:28:55Never disappointed. Um, you know, they we do understand their strength playing on pitches like this
00:29:01Uh, and it helped them and we use that to our advantage. We played some really good cricket
00:29:05And throughout the tournament in terms of our bowling we were very very consistent
00:29:10Yeah, look again a very very solid mind, um never gets
00:29:16Overwhelmed by the pressure around him. Uh, that is why that is the reason we wanted to happen in that middle phase
00:29:22Uh, and you know try and finish off the game for us, uh, you know with this experience with this class
00:29:27Uh, there's a bit of calmness when he bats, uh, and he picks the right
00:29:32Uh, you know short to play in the pressure situation, which obviously allows the other guys who are batting around him
00:29:39Uh, you know to come out come out and play freely, uh, for example hardik, you know
00:29:43Came out and played some really good shot in both games
00:29:46Uh that actually, you know gave us a little bit of breather. Uh, but again, uh, you know the overall
00:29:51Batsmanship that was shown by all our batters throughout the tournament was superb
00:29:56Yeah, for sure
00:29:56I mean, you know
00:29:57These are the things after playing for so long such a long career
00:30:00You look forward to situations where you're put under pressure and you walk in and you put your hand up
00:30:05And I think to win titles which has kind of been missing in the past the whole team has to step up in different games
00:30:10And if you see this tournament over the course of five matches
00:30:13Everyone has put their hand up somewhere or the other and that's why we ended up winning
00:30:17uh this tournament and and people have made such impactful knocks such impactful spells and
00:30:23It's only a collective effort that can win you a title
00:30:26And i'm just so happy that we were able to play as a unit just really enjoy ourselves
00:30:30We've had such an amazing time as a team here in practice sessions off the field on the field
00:30:36It's been honestly an amazing amazing tournament for us. Obviously. It's always amazing to win
00:30:41Icc even and especially champions trophy, you know, I remember 2017 very closely to my heart
00:30:47Uh, we could not finish out the job that that time
00:30:50But very very pleased with the way we have played throughout the tournament and at the same point of time how everyone contributed that was fantastic
00:30:56Brilliant, you know that was calm composed, you know, he took his chances at the right point of time
00:31:01I think this is what k l raul is, you know
00:31:03K l raul has immense talent and I don't think anyone can hit the ball the way he can
00:31:09Uh, you know, I think that was just an exhibition of how we did today
00:31:26But
00:31:56I don't think I can say this on camera, but I was shitting myself
00:31:59uh at the end, but
00:32:01Yeah, we still had a couple of matters to come. So, um
00:32:05Yeah, I was I was confident that we could uh get over the line
00:32:08but yeah in in moments like this and big games, it's more about holding your composure which
00:32:13we all know about it, but it's not as
00:32:15Uh, it's not easy. But um, yeah
00:32:18Yeah, happy to be happy to win this and happy to get over the line this time. I think i've batted in
00:32:24In times like this in in three out of the five games and one of the games
00:32:28I didn't get to bat at all against pakistan. So, uh, yeah
00:32:32You know the the game's given me good time in the middle and uh good time to prepare for
00:32:37For a big moment like this. Yeah, it's it's been a good tournament. Um,
00:32:40You know, I guess we came here at the start
00:32:43You know, I guess we had challenges along the way
00:32:45But I think the way we've kind of grown as a group and we're playing some good cricket at the end of the day
00:32:48And we just got I guess we got beaten by a good side who turned up today
00:32:52But you know a lot of good stuff
00:32:54Um from our group, you know guys stepping up at different times
00:32:57Um, I think everyone, you know contributed throughout this whole tour
00:33:00And that's all you can ask for is I guess as a as a captain in a in a team
00:33:04Yeah, I think it was it was good bowling. Um, I think yeah, we lost a couple wickets kind of just after the power play and
00:33:10Um, and then yeah, they really got the squeeze on and it looked challenging to start and get away
00:33:15I think you know credit to the the way the spinners bowled all four of them
00:33:19World-class bowlers and they showed that again today and I think yeah, I guess we were probably 20 under or maybe 25
00:33:25I know what we wanted to get but um, we knew we had a we had a total and we were trying to fight
00:33:30And that's all we did
00:33:33And the indian team is emerged as a champion of champions after three grinding weeks of cricket
00:33:38The indian team has emerged winners of the champions trophy
00:33:41Making them the most successful team in the tournament's history. Here's how india has drifted history in the finals
00:33:49and
00:33:53New zealand were off to a flying start with rachan ravindra taking a liking to hardik pandya
00:33:58Smashing him for 14 in the fourth over over the rope momentum for new zealand
00:34:05However varun chakravarti drew first blood as he trapped will young
00:34:10Taking a piece of leg and given out to do
00:34:13Kuldeep yadav then produced a jaffa on the opening delivery of his spell as he sent ravindra packing with the wrong guard
00:34:22He needed that wicket
00:34:25That's a good hit glen phillips and daryl mitchell revived new zealand's innings with a solid partnership leaving india searching for options
00:34:33short pulled
00:34:36But the men in blue made an impressive comeback limiting new zealand to a modest total in the crunch final
00:34:45Wicked they want to because
00:34:48I don't think he's quick enough
00:34:51Rohit sharma got india off to a brisk start in the chase
00:34:56Sitting the tide at the top. He looked switched on and picked the app deliveries to attack
00:35:02And all the way for six
00:35:06Rohit raced to his half century in just 41 balls with the captain stepping up at the right time for the men in blue
00:35:13Shreyas hagar then took charge and put india's innings back on track
00:35:17Later new zealand produced another top-notch effort in the field as a year fell just two runs short of his 50
00:35:27The finish became a little nervy as hardik pandya departed this game is not over yet
00:35:33But india were now within touching distance
00:35:37The glorious moment took some time to come but india after 12 long years became winners of the champion's trophy
00:35:51Sports bureau india today
00:35:53Like champions
00:35:57Take a look at the mood in the dressing room as tensions rose during the final moments of the thrilling finals
00:36:23Yeah
00:36:48What happened
00:36:53Foreign
00:37:23Foreign
00:37:37Yeah
00:37:54Foreign
00:38:19Okay, guys, congratulations
00:38:24Yeah
00:38:30And sunil gavaskar also sang praises for the indian team after their champion's trophy victory
00:38:35Calling them the best white ball team on planet gavaskar also expressed the team's blessed with multiple match winners
00:38:42listening to this exclusive conversation
00:38:45I'm still taking this big call and tell me if i'm correct or not. Is india the best white ball team on the planet?
00:38:53Without a question anything that gets into all the three finals
00:38:59Winners and now the champion's trophy without a question. They have to be the best white ball team on the planet
00:39:06No doubt whatsoever about that. The crib was my crib as as you said, yes, but
00:39:13Look to be able to get in all the finals at home. There was no home advantage in all those other places yet. India won
00:39:20So clearly I think
00:39:22India without a question is the best white ball team at the moment in the world
00:39:27Talkers, uh through the supporting cast because that's another standout feature and we've seen every time a team wins a world cup like event
00:39:34There has to be multiple heroes and that's exactly what we've seen. Uh, three names that come to my mind right now
00:39:39Uh, one of akshar patel is picked up wickets must be in the top 15 wicket takers
00:39:44Uh, he's got some runs must be in probably top 15 run getters as well
00:39:48The shreya saiyar second highest run getter of this tournament and remember he's not an opener
00:39:52Rachan ravindra has gone ahead one inning less but an opener or you at least get one two or three
00:39:57He's still coming down at the order and getting you those tough runs third one
00:40:01Till the start of the tournament was quiet
00:40:03Now the semi-final and the finalists played two crucial roles. Tell us about these three players and their supporting and don't forget
00:40:10Varun, yes, I was going to get to the bowlers another question for them
00:40:14I mean, he's got 100 and then he got an 85
00:40:17So it just tells you that look when it was needed he was he he held the team together
00:40:22At a time when they you know, the top order had not delivered
00:40:25So, I mean all these you know players if you have a situation where five six players have been match winners for you
00:40:32Then it's it's bound to me that your team is going to go on to win because you always have somebody or the other
00:40:36Who is going to be able to you know, bring this bring the team out from a tricky situation
00:40:42Varun Chakravorty is bowled well Shreyas Iyer the way he kept his cool Akshay Patel as well
00:40:47You know, maybe the shot was a little I I know I wasn't very happy with the shot while I was in commentary
00:40:54But he's batted well, he's bowled well and and the run out he had
00:40:57In the in the in the first game. Yes. So clearly I think it just tells you that
00:41:02Here is a here is another cricketer who can be relied on
00:41:06Relied on because you know in a situation where it is needed to keep your head. He did keep his head
00:41:12He can sometimes get a bit carried away
00:41:14And and and play a shot like he did today
00:41:16Which is this this really is not easiest of shots to play because you know, there's not a you know
00:41:21This is a flow here. Your arm gets just a little bit locked. So
00:41:26Uh, otherwise he would have finished the match. He would have been unbeaten
00:41:29He would have got a half century as well. Yeah, but never mind. I think overall he's done magnificently
00:41:34so
00:41:35These are the guys who have done exceedingly well and that augurs augurs also
00:41:39Superbly for india in the future that all these players have still got plenty of years left in in international
00:41:48Now in the space of just nine months india have won
00:41:51Two icc titles both coming under the leadership of rohit sharma
00:41:55From there being doubts about his future in the team to guiding the team to silverware to even stating that he ain't going anywhere
00:42:02From the cricket scene. He's capturing the latest few weeks in the life of the indian captain
00:42:16In the build-up to the mega champions trophy final rohit sharma's name became a buzzword
00:42:22More than his modest returns with the bat the chorus about his retirement dominated headlines
00:42:30A month back too there were some speculating the same
00:42:35What kind of a question is that
00:42:39This is a different format different time
00:42:46As usual
00:42:47As cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs and I have faced a lot in my career so
00:42:54This is nothing new to me
00:42:57We know every day is a fresh day. Every series is a fresh series
00:43:02So yeah, i'm looking forward to the challenge. Uh, not looking at what has happened in the past
00:43:09Clearly
00:43:10You don't
00:43:12When chumman gil turned up for the press conference on the eve of the match he dispelled all rumors
00:43:18Is
00:43:37As rohit sharma came out of bat at the dubai international cricket stadium with hopes pinned on him
00:43:43He played as if he was unaware of what was being said about him
00:43:49Taking matters into his own hands and setting the platform for the indian team
00:44:00Against santana, he held his ground and played the waiting game
00:44:06Contrary to what many have to say about his patience
00:44:10The way he played today made one question what could have been
00:44:14Had he played the same way on the 19th of november?
00:44:182023
00:44:27Rohit could have been at par with msd with most icc titles for india
00:44:32But after today's win, he can proudly say that he is india's second most successful cricketer
00:44:38second most successful captain
00:44:42In all of this the hitman's heroics with the bat should not be forgotten
00:44:46second fastest to 11,000 odia runs
00:44:49Most double hundreds in odia cricket and most turns in a single edition of the world cup are just some of his notable achievements
00:45:01We talk about emperor coley we talk about joe rude we talk about williamson
00:45:05We talk about babar azam, but this guy is different. Yeah, because
00:45:10It makes look batting so easy. That's just brilliant. I love what you I could watch him bat all day and
00:45:16I've been on the receiving end of a double hundred from him. It's almost one of those things where you go
00:45:22That was amazing. Can I watch that again? If we could change the result i'd watch that every day
00:45:28He smiled big after getting his hands on the trophy that was missing from his cabinet
00:45:34Congratulations and later made a statement that helped cricket fans
00:45:40sleep better
00:45:41And there it is one more thing. Uh
00:45:44I'm not going to retire from this format just to make sure
00:45:48That no rumors are spread. Uh
00:45:51Moving forward. Okay guys. Thank you so much
00:45:54Rowan's glorious legacy now has another golden chapter as the country comes together
00:46:00to hail the hitman
00:46:02India sports bureau india today
00:46:11And sunny gavaskar lavish praise and rohit sharma for his match winning knock in the champions trophy final against new zealand
00:46:18Listen into this exclusive conversation
00:46:22Rohit sharma when you see him back like this
00:46:24He gets you those 76 runs which now is clearly the man of the match winning performance and you wonder if he can only mix
00:46:32Caution with aggression. He'll win you every single game
00:46:35Because he's got all the shots in the book
00:46:38If he can just marry it with the patient that he showed when he was starting out
00:46:42Remember, he batted a whole 50 overs and he's to get 264 out to the last one meetings
00:46:47So if if he well i'm not even you know, yesterday we were talking
00:46:51Yeah, I said that if he bats for 25 overs india will be 180 190, but he didn't you know
00:46:57he gave the indian team a start and
00:47:00For the final the captain playing a century plus innings means, you know
00:47:03He really has you know lifted the trophy on from on his own shoulders
00:47:07So lifted the team on his own shoulder that would have been fantastic still india winning is just incredible
00:47:14Incredibly, you know satisfying because there are you know, there were occasions when you thought you know
00:47:20What is the indian team going to do because against the australian they looked a little bit
00:47:25Towards the end even here but the way they showed their temperament fantastic
00:47:30It really has been this has been an enjoyable win two close games semi-final and final. That's exactly what you want
00:47:36That's where your temperament is tested. That's where
00:47:39Skill level is tested and the indians came through with flying colors. I said, you know seventh icc title
00:47:46Most captains have only won one. There is only one ms. Dhoni, uh, you know that had three
00:47:51Now in that elite list right behind him Rohit Sharma with two yes, I mean that was uh, even in the ipl he's got
00:48:00As captain so his leadership, there's no question about his leadership qualities
00:48:05and now
00:48:06Just behind uh ms. Dhoni with two icc titles. Let's tell you how how wonderful a leader he's been for the indian
00:48:14India india india
00:48:171983 world cup winning hero sunil gavaskar and kapaldev couldn't control their excitement after india's champions trophy win
00:48:24While kapaldev shook a leg inside the india today studios after the game our colleague vikrant gupta
00:48:29Caught up with sunil gavaskar who decided to also show his dance moves celebrating india's empathic win over the kiwis
00:48:44Yes
00:49:02And world cup winning captain kapaldev lauded rohit sharma both for his impressive leadership and batting
00:49:08After india's record-setting champions trophy win kapal also added that rohit's big hitting ability is second to none in international cricket
00:49:16listening to this exclusive conversation
00:49:20Congratulations to you mr. Kapaldev or to everybody everybody in the country
00:49:24I think this type of a win brings so much happiness around you can see the smiling face
00:49:30I think fantastic these type of things you can't plan something
00:49:36When it happened and you can see the people's face they want to say something
00:49:40They can't say because they don't know what to say. They have 10 line in one line. They want to say 10 line
00:49:47Yeah, I think it's fantastic victory like this
00:49:51required when they play bad cricket two series in australia and india against new zealand and australia
00:49:58Now here they come back and play such fantastic cricket. I think oh
00:50:03There's no word to express you you said you know
00:50:06You find you you're always looking for multiple ways of expressing such feelings 10 lines come to your mind
00:50:10But in one line if you could describe the best
00:50:14In the best possible manner in that one line the whole winning feeling right now. What would that be?
00:50:18English is not my language
00:50:23So I can't say that
00:50:28And if you say yes, they made us proud
00:50:33And the champion trophy victory meant a big celebration not just for the indian team
00:50:37But also for their fans is how the fans expressed their happiness after india became the only team to win their third
00:50:45champion's trophy title
00:51:03Is
00:51:11Oh, it was a roller coaster ride for sure
00:51:13We started on a high note and we were expecting to get over by 9 9 30 written home early
00:51:19But then we had our surprises two brilliant catches for the western fielders
00:51:24Done the game and when poli got out in single digits
00:51:27We were like heartbroken and then we were like, okay, this is gonna not be our day or night
00:51:32But then of course our batsmen have a depth in the squad
00:51:36K.l. draw had the most underrated innings today. He was a rolls royce under pressure, you know, kind of taking singles taking
00:51:44That really took us the small partnerships built up to a large score which kind of transformed our own, you know score
00:51:52He has delivered
00:52:02Foreign
00:52:20So we have a mother also with us, uh, what do you have to say who's your favorite player and how was the match today?
00:52:25You've also been dressed up. Uh, like fully fully for the celebrations. Yes
00:52:29We were fully confident that today india will only win and like we were dressed up from home only
00:52:35And we especially came here because the crowd here is so much and we enjoyed a lot
00:52:39and like uh, we were have virat kohli favorite here and
00:52:45We were waiting for this trophy from a last long time and thank you
00:52:50India for playing so well
00:52:52So
00:52:58All right clashes during champions trophy celebrations, that's the story we are breaking at this hour stone was pelted
00:53:06At march celebrating victory clashes took place in jama masjid area in madhya pradesh's mao
00:53:13arson rioting stone pelting on camera rioters with sticks vandalizing cars
00:53:18Is what we know at this point in time i'm going to go straight across to amritanshi joshi my colleague this morning
00:53:24For more details on what really happened there
00:53:27Why were these clashes reported give us a sense of what happened?
00:53:30There were two groups that clashed amritanshi army has also been deployed from the local unit
00:53:37Yes, these are all the local people here and a dispute broke out during the procession after the team india's victory

00:53:54Petrol bombs were also thrown police assorted to lathi charge and also fire tear gas shells to control the situation
00:54:01It took around two and a half hours to control the situation and right now the situation is under control
00:54:08The incident took place after 10 p.m
00:54:11On sunday late night, which was yesterday after india's victory more than 100 people were taking out a procession on
00:54:18More than 40 bikes people were involved in there were raising slogans of their sriram and other slogans
00:54:24Too during this time some people went ahead there near the jama masjid
00:54:28Which is situated there people of other sites stopped five to six people walking behind and started beating them and this rose
00:54:36all the
00:54:38Things there dispute increased after stone pelting because stone pelting was also done
