Now for a bit of good news in this storm, new mum Siarn Freeman gave birth to a healthy baby girl yesterday morning all while wind and rain battered her home. Siarn and her partner Dan have been resting in Arrawarra on the northern New South Wales coast just north of Coffs Harbour.

00:00She's been quite the angel, and she's going to be a good sleeper considering she can sleep
00:08through all of this, so yes, everything went so amazing.
00:14Yeah, hopefully a sign of good sleeping nights to come.
00:21Now you guys were always planning on a home birth, but I can't imagine that giving birth
00:25in a cyclone was really factored into the plan, was it?
00:30No, it definitely made things interesting.
00:36I was quite oblivious to it all, but my husband, I think, was worried about our midwife getting
00:42out of the town where she's from and getting here safely and it all going to plan.
00:50But yeah, it all worked out really, really well, and she arrived with no issues, so we've
00:56just got to stay at home in this snuggly weather.
00:59Absolutely incredible.
01:01Now, there has been, of course, this sort of lead up to this storm hitting.
01:07At what point did you guys realise that she might arrive during the storm and you might
01:12have some of those issues of midwives getting to you?
01:17Yeah, well, we actually were 42 weeks and one day, so we were very aware that she might
01:26come through this cyclone, so we nicknamed her Baby Alfie and said that it'll probably
01:32take a cyclone for her to make her grand entrance.
01:35So we were ready, but yeah, we had her when the weather was at its worst, for sure.
01:41Yeah, did you have any idea of what was going on outside while you were in labour?
01:47I had no idea.
01:49I said it wasn't that bad, and then my mum and dad...
01:52Yeah, she didn't have much of a clue what was going on outside of these doors.
01:57We were quite aware, and yeah, it all worked out well.
02:02Thank you so much for chatting to us this morning, guys.
02:05Congratulations and all the best.
