00:00Fortnite will secretly update outfits, but did you know this skin has over 90 different
00:04changes?
00:05From a lawsuit that almost removed this, to something you probably own, here's 30 skins
00:10that were changed.
00:11At number 50, you would think it's Jonesy.
00:13Most players consider him the face of the game, but it's his counterpart Ramirez that
00:17has taken pretty much all of the hits.
00:19If you look back all the way to 2014, we have the very first version, the pre-alpha concept.
00:24There has been so many adjustments to get to 2025, and now here's her today.
00:29So if Fortnite did this to one of their very first skins, it's no surprise they would
00:32do it to their most popular.
00:34The one outfit that literally everyone wanted in 2018 was Skull Trooper.
00:39Owning this meant flexing on all of your friends, but then Fortnite suddenly brought him back
00:43and changed the original.
00:44If you were an OG, you now had this exclusive eye glow.
00:47And while most people know this story, there was one problem that caused players to ask
00:51for a refund.
00:52All of the people who originally owned this outfit had it changed without their consent,
00:56and players were furious.
00:58It took 3 entire years for Epic Games to respond, where they finally turned the OG eye glow
01:02into an edit style.
01:04Now sometimes it's not just the outfits that are changed, but rather your ability to use
01:08skins.
01:09And did you know, for most of Fortnite's lifespan, you could simply not equip a skin
01:12and be given a default at random?
01:14Well, all that changed 3 months ago.
01:17With the launch of Chapter 6, you can now select any default skin you want, and it took
01:208 years for this to happen.
01:22Another change that'll surprise you is with peeling.
01:25At the start of Chapter 5, fans went into their locker and noticed something strange.
01:29Peely had a brand new icon showing us he was missing, and this was the first time Epic
01:33has ever changed our lockers for the storyline.
01:36Recently, Fortnite's been getting more and more comfortable dropping surveys to players,
01:40and these usually include a ton of upcoming outfits.
01:43Last year, one of these skins got a lot of attention when fans noticed it was an unreleased
01:47Raptor outfit, the same character who was never released from years ago.
01:51The most talked about part of him was wearing music reactive clothes, except if you wanted
01:55to see this in game, you'd have to wait a full year to get our hands on the Raptor
01:59Royale Pack.
02:00After all that waiting, Epic secretly deleted the reactivity, which still isn't fixed,
02:05unlike the Darth Vader skin.
02:07When Samurai Darth Vader graced the item shop, it was amazing, but one thing was missing
02:11that left us scratching our heads.
02:13When you did the Imperial March with him, Fortnite treated him like any other skin.
02:21Obviously that's not how it's meant to sound, so a couple weeks later, he was updated
02:26with the exclusive breathing version.
02:32And speaking of emotes, there is one that literally everyone knows about, that's Waterworks.
02:37Well, what if I told you it didn't originally sound like this?
02:42Right before it was released, it was supposed to sound like this.
02:46I gotta say, this version is ten times more toxic.
02:52One of the best things Fortnite's done is rewarding you for having original battle pass
02:56skins.
02:57Despite the fact that no one earns these anymore, Epic still updates outfits years later, like
03:00giving us a secret edit style for Lynx, where you can take off her tail.
03:04Did you know you could also remove Elite Agent's helmet, and this is what it looks like.
03:08Later yet, the Astronaut skins even got a secret version with their visor open, and
03:12now we have a face reveal for really old outfits.
03:15When Fortnite was still experimenting with bringing anime collabs to the game, they needed
03:19a way to make them look as authentic as possible.
03:21So what was the solution?
03:23It's cell shading.
03:24It first appeared with the Pandora POI, and then they had to bring this to outfits.
03:28The response to the early skins wasn't great.
03:31Something had to be done because they kind of just looked off.
03:34So after a couple of years of figuring it out, now in 2025, where cell shaded outfits
03:38have much thinner lines.
03:39Can you spot the difference?
03:40A lot of players are torn of whether they like this change or not, so let me know in
03:44the comments.
03:45You probably had no idea that skins like Oscar used to be completely different.
03:50When he dropped in Fortnite, he was a menacing looking tiger with a suit.
03:53Let's go back to the concept art, which originally showed Oscar with battle armor, ear piercings,
03:58and huge gloves.
03:59Then, for characters like Aubrey, her concept included a t-shirt with Japanese text on it,
04:04and when she came to the game, she was identical to the art.
04:07Oh, but except for one thing, now her set was entirely themed around hot dog dynamite.
04:12What about the time that Fortnite created a tradition only to destroy it?
04:15Well, ever since Chapter 2, we've had the most exclusive pickaxe of all time, the Axe
04:19of Champions.
04:21This could only be held by one team at a time, the current winner of the FNCS.
04:25Then, a year later, they updated it to the Axe of Champions 2.0, which is a design they
04:29stuck with for years.
04:31This version instantly became iconic as it passed from one winner to the next.
04:35Then, after all of this time, this 2.0 version was thrown into the item shop.
04:40It removed all of the mysterious nature behind this in an instant.
04:43But little did we know that Fortnite was going with yet another secret design, the Blade
04:47of Champions.
04:48Who knows, we'll probably see this up for sale in a few years.
04:51Some changes are so hidden you probably never noticed.
04:54Like when Kicks released, everyone was so distracted by the fact you could put Jordans
04:58on Goku, they didn't stop and think, hey, some of these skins are wearing two pairs
05:02of shoes.
05:03It was kind of an oversight, so Fortnite came up with the solution.
05:06A couple months later, they secretly updated Kicks to work effortlessly with outfits.
05:11And to make up for the height differences, they even added socks to your characters.
05:15Maybe the Avatar should have put on socks so he didn't notice a huge problem with
05:18his collab.
05:19You see, in the show, he gets struck by lightning and it leaves a huge scar on his back and
05:23foot.
05:24Epic is so good about remembering this because if you look at his spine in game, you'll
05:27see the scar.
05:28Except when you check, you would notice it was totally absent from his foot.
05:32It is such a minor detail, you would never expect Epic to care about it, but a lot of
05:36people pointed it out and they checked back a week later and wouldn't you know it, it
05:39was actually added.
05:40If you've been playing Fortnite for a long time, you'll know that the icon in your
05:43locker never actually shows what the skin will look like once you equip it.
05:47A ton of us have decked out our cosmetics with edit styles and custom colors, but the
05:51locker icon always remains the same.
05:54Actually that's not true, you have to be Gummy Fishstick for this to change.
05:57He's one of the only cosmetics in the entire game that does this, but changing his upper
06:01body will also affect his appearance in your locker.
06:04Let's talk about one of the most drastic changes that Battle Pass has ever seen.
06:08For Chapter 5 Season 3, Epic introduced us to Ringmaster Scar, a skilled driver who ruled
06:13the wasteland.
06:14But did you know, she was originally going to look very different.
06:17Instead of a mohawk and spiky leather clothes, Scar was going to wear a silver hyena helmet
06:22and a totally different outfit.
06:23So why did they change this to an edit style?
06:26Well it protects her head while driving and it actually makes sense.
06:29I will say that Fortnite did not want to change this next outfit.
06:32The Paradigm was revealed in Chapter 1 as a limited time only release.
06:36In fact she is still one of the only item shop skins to be exclusive aside from tournament
06:40items.
06:41Despite this, with no warning, the item shop updated in August 2024 with The Paradigm.
06:47It was a total accident and after just one hour she was gone.
06:50At first Fortnite said they would remove it from the accounts of anyone who purchased
06:53it, and then they thought, wait people might have bought V-Bucks just for this so we'll
06:57let them keep it.
06:58Instead their solution was to quickly make an exclusive color just for the original owners.
07:03And eventually we got the Reality Warrior style.
07:06Now a ton of these changes to cosmetics over the years has all been because of one problem,
07:10Fortnite's age rating.
07:12It turns out when they collabed with Lego they had to lower the game from teen to a
07:15much younger audience.
07:17So to do this they had to redesign thousands of outfits to be family friendly, and one
07:21of those is Veronica.
07:23On the surface nothing about her seems wrong, but in the Lego update they had to rename
07:27her shirt from Dead Game to Best Game.
07:30One change that needs to happen right now includes Joss.
07:33She's a fan favorite skin this season, but you literally can't even use her while holding
07:37a sniper.
07:38What?
07:39Yeah, for whatever reason her texture just gets completely deleted, so you already know
07:44Epic is secretly working to fix it.
07:46What about when they changed cosmetics in real life?
07:49Recently we got another batch of Adidas shoes and these ones were all based on Fortnite
07:52skins like the Ultra Boost Victory Crown, Battle Bus, even Fishstick.
07:57Unlike the previous kicks, these ones don't take the shoes from real life, but the reverse,
08:01putting these Fortnite designs on the shelves from the game.
08:03But here's the thing, you'll notice they all look identical, except for one.
08:07Take Peely's for example.
08:09Inside is the sneaker you could find in the item shop, but these have a banana peel that
08:12goes on top and turns them into old Fortnite shoes.
08:15In game they don't have that option, so it feels like Fortnite downgraded their own
08:19crossover.
08:20But hey, at least they upgraded other cosmetics like instruments.
08:23If you aren't a festival player you probably don't pay attention to these things and
08:26Fortnite noticed that.
08:28So they decided to up the ante.
08:30On a random day fans logged in and noticed that all of their instruments just became
08:33free backblings and pickaxes.
08:36Not only that, they even made it work the other way around.
08:38So if you didn't buy any instruments, your pickaxes just turn into them for free.
08:42What other game does that?
08:43Now it didn't used to be this way.
08:45Fortnite sometimes makes controversial decisions with their pickaxes, like when Stormbreaker
08:50released.
08:51For some reason they wanted this to feel truly authentic to the MCU, so they banned us from
08:54using it with certain skins.
08:56In order to equip it, you had to be wearing the Thor outfits.
08:59Which I will say is confusing because people like Fishstick were literally holding it in
09:02the trailer.
09:03It became a massive topic in the community and fans were rightfully complaining about
09:07it.
09:08Mostly the fact it didn't even follow the MCU's own rules.
09:10So Fortnite listened, unlocking Stormbreaker for everybody one week later.
09:14Now let's quickly head back to the LEGO update because as I mentioned earlier, this
09:18age rating problem caused thousands of skins to be secretly changed, but some of them had
09:22hilarious censorship.
09:24Let's take a look at Splode.
09:26I guess for some reason you're not allowed cartoon bombs, so they changed his entire character
09:30into an 8-ball.
09:31Like literally it's a whole new skin.
09:33What about the actual 8-ball outfit?
09:35Well they changed him too, turning his gun into a spatula and his knife into a fork and
09:39spoon.
09:40Bandolier is named after the bandolier on his skin, yet not even this was saved from
09:44the LEGO update, turning it into paintbrushes instead.
09:47Also if we look at John Lama and Cobalt were given candy canes and, well, fish.
09:52The weirdest change of all is that demons aren't allowed to be red.
09:56That's right, characters like Malice are straight up purple for some reason.
09:59It's like they're related to Thanos or something, and even he got his very own secret
10:03change.
10:04The snap emote was literally just your average item shop cosmetic, existing long before the
10:08Avengers crossover.
10:10But 6 months into its life, Fortnite changed it to a Marvel series emote, and the description
10:14was replaced with Balance is Restored.
10:17Out of nowhere, this generic finger snap was now a collab.
10:20As for celebrities, Juice WRLD was a nice surprise during the remix season, and he even
10:24got his very own Lucid Dreams emote, although this instantly became controversial among
10:28fans because everything was wrong.
10:31The emote didn't play the chorus of Lucid Dreams, and Juice WRLD's dance was from
10:34a different song entirely.
10:36While they could have fixed the dance, they did decide to swap out the audio.
10:39So the emote was deleted from the item shop for 2 whole weeks, and when it returned, it
10:43finally played the chorus.
10:45At least it was only gone for 2 weeks, unlike an entire range of cosmetics that Fortnite
10:52has completely forgotten about.
10:53We've been getting some weird items lately, from kicks, to full on cars, but it has been
10:58years since we got to unlock pets.
11:00These were fully animated backblings that followed you around, and teammates could even
11:04pet them.
11:05Yet, after the child and shoppy release in Chapter 2, Fortnite abandoned the idea of
11:09pets entirely.
11:10And that's not all, we also had a different type of emote called toys.
11:13These usually appeared in Chapter 1 Battle Passes, letting us play our favorite sports,
11:17whether it was basketball, golf, even doing a bottle flip.
11:20At the time, these were easily the most popular emotes in the whole game, but for some reason,
11:24Fortnite just doesn't make them anymore.
11:27And to further prove they had been abandoned, every new map used to support things like
11:30shooting hoops, and now, in Chapter 6, toys no longer work on the island.
11:35Back in 2022, fans were treated to the Crossmark Operative Pack, a $16 bundle that included
11:40Save the World and the Nia skin.
11:41But what if I told you she wasn't going to be in this pack at all?
11:44In fact, this backbling originally didn't even belong to Nia.
11:48The survey skin of a woman with dual pistols was the intended bundle, and as you can see
11:52from the backbling, it was repurposed into the one we all know and love today.
11:56It has now been 3 years since this bundle dropped, and the survey skin is nowhere to
12:00be found, so it looks like she is trapped in Fortnite's vault forever.
12:04Now let's talk about a cosmetic that was banned for copying Overwatch, and surprisingly,
12:08it is not the skin everybody calls Mercy.
12:10Instead, it's a simple spray of a hamster.
12:13All of this was first revealed by leakers in the files, who showed this upcoming cosmetic
12:17to the community.
12:18Everyone saw it and went, wait a second, this looks just like the hamster spray from Overwatch.
12:22And if you put it side by side, it was more than just inspiration, someone actually traced
12:27it.
12:28Epic went on red alert after discovering this, and delayed the spray's release, causing
12:31us to wait entire months before getting an update.
12:34Then it came, a surprise patch with just one change, the new Hamster Cabbie spray with
12:38a fresh redesign.
12:40Although I think one of the most important updates to Fortnite's cosmetics was the
12:43item shop itself.
12:45Epic secretly made this available for everyone without even logging into the game, letting
12:48you make sure you never miss out on a limited time item, especially if you're not home.
12:53So the next time you visit the site to buy something, maybe consider supporting us with
12:56code T5G, it really does help a lot.
12:59Now I couldn't make this video without mentioning the funniest hidden change of all.
13:02In 2023, Fishstick got his very own music pack in emote, but when it first released,
13:07everyone was shocked by an R-rated line, clearly it wasn't intended to sound sus,
13:15but it was too late, so they had to change it, and with the next update came the hidden
13:19censorship.
13:20Let me know how many of these skins you own, it's been Tommy and keep it here on Top
13:265 Gaming.
