Donald Trump’s Oval Office meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky descended into a shouting match with the US president abruptly ending the conversation and throwing reporters out.
Mr Trump told the Ukrainian president he was “gambling with World War Three” as their meeting became heated.
The Ukrainian president told Mr Trump the rare earth minerals deal being negotiated by the two leaders was not enough for his country.
Mr Trump in turn accused Mr Zelensky of being “very disrespectful”.
JD Vance, the vice president, intervened, asking Mr Zelensky: “have you said thank you once?”
As voices were raised, Mr Trump told the Ukrainian leader that “you have to be thankful”.
“You either make a deal, or we are out,” the president warned.
Mr Trump then abruptly ended the meeting saying he thought it was enough, with the press abruptly ushered out.

00:00He broke the ceasefire, he killed our people, and he didn't exchange prisoners.
00:06We signed the exchange of prisoners, but he didn't do it.
00:10What kind of diplomacy, J.D., you are speaking about?
00:13What do you mean?
00:15I'm talking about the kind of diplomacy that's going to end the destruction of your country.
00:20Mr. President, with respect, I think it's disrespectful for you to come into the Oval
00:23Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media.
00:26Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because
00:31you have manpower problems.
00:33You should be thanking the President for trying to bring an end to this conflict.
00:36Have you ever been to Ukraine, that you say what problems we have?
00:39I have been to – I've actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens
00:46is you bring people, you bring them on a propaganda tour, Mr. President.
00:50Do you disagree that you've had problems bringing people into your military?
00:55And do you think that it's respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States
00:58of America and attack the administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your
01:03country?
01:04A lot of questions.
01:05Let's start from the beginning.
01:06Sure.
01:07First of all, during the war, everybody has problems, even you, but you have nice ocean
01:12and don't feel now, but you will feel it in the future.
01:16God bless.
01:17You don't know that.
01:18God bless.
01:19You don't know that.
01:20God bless.
01:21You will not have a war.
01:22Don't tell us what we're going to feel.
01:23We're trying to solve a problem.
01:25Don't tell us what we're going to feel.
01:26I'm not telling you.
01:27Because you're in no position to dictate that.
01:28That's exactly what you're doing.
01:29Remember this.
01:30You're in no position to dictate what we're going to feel.
01:34You will.
01:35We're going to feel very good.
01:36You will feel influence.
01:37We're going to feel very good and very strong.
01:39You will feel influence.
01:40You're right now not in a very good position.
01:42You've allowed yourself to be in a very bad position, and he happens to be right about
01:46it.
01:47From the very beginning of the war, Mr. President, I was –
01:48You're not in a good position.
01:49You don't have the cards right now.
01:52With us, you start having cards.
01:53I'm not playing cards.
01:54Right now, you don't have –
01:55I'm very serious, Mr. President.
01:56You're playing cards.
01:57I'm very serious.
01:58You're gambling with the lives of millions of people.
02:00You're gambling with World War III.
02:03You're gambling with World War III.
02:06And what you're doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country, that's backed
02:12you far more than a lot of people said they should have.
02:15Have you said thank you once this entire meeting?
02:18No.
02:19In this entire meeting, have you said thank you?
02:20Even today.
02:21You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition in October.
02:25Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who's
02:30trying to save your country.
02:32Please, you think that if you will speak very loudly about the war, you can –
02:38He's not speaking loudly.
02:39He's not speaking loudly.
02:40Your country is in big trouble.
02:41Can I answer?
02:42Wait a minute.
02:43No, no.
02:44You've done a lot of talking.
02:45Your country is in big trouble.
02:46I know.
02:47I know.
02:48You're not winning.
02:49You're not winning this.
02:50You have a damn good chance of coming out okay because of us.
02:53Mr. President, we are staying in our country, staying strong from the very beginning of
02:57the war.
02:58We've been alone.
02:59And we are thankful.
03:00I said thanks in this cabinet.
03:01You haven't been alone.
03:02You haven't been alone.
03:03We gave you, through this stupid president, $350 billion.
03:07You voted for your president.
03:08We gave you military equipment.
03:09You voted for your president.
03:10And your men are brave, but they had to use our military equipment.
03:13If you didn't have our military equipment, if you didn't have our military equipment,
03:18this war would have been over in two weeks.
03:21In three days.
03:22I heard it from Putin.
03:23In three days.
03:24This is something new.
03:25Maybe less.
03:26In two weeks.
03:27Of course, yes.
03:28It's going to be a very hard thing to do business like this.
03:30I tell you.
03:31Just say thank you.
03:32I said a lot of times, thank you, to American people.
03:35Except that there are disagreements.
03:37And let's go litigate those disagreements rather than trying to fight it out in the
03:41American media when you're wrong.
03:43We know that you're wrong.
03:44But you see, I think it's good for the American people to see what's going on.
03:48I think it's very important.
03:49That's why I kept this going so long.
03:52You have to be thankful.
03:53You don't have the cards.
03:55You're buried there.
03:57People are dying.
03:58You're running low on soldiers.
04:00Listen.
04:01You're running low on soldiers.
04:02It would be a damn good thing.
04:04And then you tell us, I don't want a ceasefire.
04:07I don't want a ceasefire.
04:08I want to go.
04:09And I wanted this.
04:10Look, if you could get a ceasefire right now, I tell you, you'd take it so the bullets
04:15stop flying and your men stop getting killed.
04:17Of course we want to stop the war.
04:19But you're saying you don't want a ceasefire?
04:20But I said to you with guarantees.
04:22I want a ceasefire.
04:23Because you'll get a ceasefire faster than an agreement.
04:25Ask our people about ceasefire, what they think.
04:27That wasn't with me.
04:29It doesn't matter for you what this means.
04:30That wasn't with me.
04:31It wasn't with you.
04:32That was with a guy named Biden who was not a smart person.
04:35That was with Obama.
04:37It was your president.
04:38Excuse me.
04:39That was with Obama who gave you sheets and I gave you javelins.
04:42Yes.
04:43I gave you the javelins to take out all those tanks.
04:46Obama gave you sheets.
04:48In fact, the statement is Obama gave sheets and Trump gave javelins.
04:53You've got to be more thankful.
04:56Because let me tell you, you don't have the cards.
04:58With us, you have the cards.
05:00But without us, you don't have any cards.
05:02One more question, Mr. Vice President.
05:05I'm sorry.
05:06It's going to be a tough deal to make.
05:08Because the attitudes have to change.
05:10What if Russia breaks the ceasefire?
05:13What if Russia breaks these talks?
05:15What do you do then?
05:17I understand that it's a heated conversation right now.
05:20What are you saying?
05:21She's asking what if Russia breaks the ceasefire.
05:24What if anything?
05:26What if a bomb drops on your head right now?
05:29Okay?
05:30What if they broke it?
05:31I don't know.
05:32They broke it with Biden because Biden, they didn't respect him.
05:35They didn't respect Obama.
05:36They respect me.
05:39Let me tell you, Putin went through a hell of a lot with me.
05:41He went through a phony witch hunt where they used him and Russia.
05:45Russia, Russia, Russia.
05:47You ever hear of that deal?
05:48That was a phony Hunter Biden, Joe Biden scam.
05:52Hillary Clinton, shifty Adam Schiff.
05:55It was a Democrat scam.
05:57And he had to go through that.
05:59And he did go through it.
06:00We didn't end up in a war.
06:02And he went through it.
06:03He was accused of all that stuff.
06:05He had nothing to do with it.
06:06It came out of Hunter Biden's bathroom.
06:09It came out of Hunter Biden's bedroom.
06:12It was disgusting.
06:14And then they said, oh, oh, the laptop from hell was made by Russia.
06:20The 51 agents.
06:22The whole thing was a scam.
06:23And he had to put up with that.
06:25He was being accused of all that stuff.
06:27All I can say is this.
06:29He might have broken deals with Obama and Bush.
06:33And he might have broken them with Biden.
06:35He did.
06:36Maybe.
06:37Maybe he didn't.
06:38I don't know what happened.
06:39But he didn't break them with me.
06:40He wants to make a deal.
06:41I don't know if you can make a deal.
06:42The problem is, I've empowered you to be a tough guy.
06:47And I don't think you'd be a tough guy without the United States.
06:50And your people are very brave.
06:52But you're either going to make a deal or we're out.
06:55And if we're out, you'll fight it out.
06:58I don't think it's going to be pretty.
07:00But you'll fight it out.
07:02But you don't have the cards.
07:03But once we sign that deal, you're in a much better position.
07:06But you're not acting at all thankful.
07:09And that's not a nice thing.
07:10I'll be honest.
07:11That's not a nice thing.
07:12All right.
07:13I think we've seen enough.
07:15What do you think?
07:16This is going to be great television.
07:19I will say that.
07:20All right.
07:22We'll see what we can do about putting it together.
07:26Guys, let's go.
07:30Guys, come on.
07:31Let's go.
07:33We'll see.
07:34I don't know.
07:35All right, guys.
07:36Guys, come on.
07:37Hey.
