00:02For us, what we like to do is to collect items.

00:06That's why sometimes, when you're interested in something,

00:09or when you're sentimental about something,

00:12it's tempting to collect.

00:14But did you know that there's a group of collectors in the country

00:17that organizes different events?

00:20That's Minted Manila.

00:22And to get to know them, we'll get to know their chairperson,

00:26Sigrid Quirendang.

00:30Good morning. Thank you for having me.

00:31Alright, please tell us more about Minted Manila

00:34and what is the purpose of this organization?

00:37Okay, so Minted Manila is more than just a platform.

00:40We're actually a gateway to the world of history, collecting, and fashion,

00:46and the arts as well.

00:47So this is where the collectors, historical enthusiasts,

00:52and even investors come together

00:56to enjoy the curated collection of the rare items,

01:00be it the coins, a paper, money, medals, tokens,

01:03or even trading cards.

01:05We also have seminars and programs to encourage everyone

01:10to learn the art and hobby of collecting here in the Philippines.

01:15Rare items are appreciated.

01:18It's a waste.

01:19Why is it a waste?

01:20I have a lot of DC Comics, Marvel Comics,

01:23and NBA cards.

01:26I collected them when I was a kid.

01:28It's a waste.

01:29Oh, okay.

01:31Anyway, for the new collectors,

01:34how can they start and how can Minted Manila help them?

01:40Okay, so Minted Manila can actually help them understand better

01:46how to start their collection and what to collect

01:49and how to turn it into an investment.

01:51So everyone, like me, I started when I was really young

01:55collecting shiny things.

01:57Shiny things?

01:58Yes, when I was young.

02:00Is this a diamond?

02:02No, just coins as long as it's shiny.

02:05So it has no value.

02:07But over time, you get to learn what you need to collect,

02:13how to start, and also how to earn from it.

02:17Okay, so you think it's an investment opportunity.

02:21But the question is, for example, a painting or artifact,

02:25but you don't have a certificate of where it came from,

02:27but you know that it's 100 years old or 50 years old,

02:31how can you use it?

02:33How can you prove that it's a good antique?

02:36There are recognized antiquarians within our group

02:40who can actually validate the authenticity of that one.

02:43And there are really established organizations

02:47in painting and the arts and galleries,

02:49like Leon Gallery or Salcedo,

02:51which can actually authenticate it for you.

02:54Or there are painters who have an official authenticating body.

02:59Okay.

03:00So aside from what you think is authentic,

03:02what other things should you remember

03:05when you are collecting coins, medals,

03:07and other rare items or trading cards?

03:10Okay, these items evoke a lot of emotion

03:15in terms of preserving the history of the item

03:19or the significance of it.

03:22So the first thing we need to understand is

03:25what is the history of this collection?

03:30Where did it come from?

03:32What's the story behind it?

03:34So the passion is about the joy of collecting the item.

03:43So later on, if you really wanted to have this

03:48as an investment opportunity or you wanted to keep it

03:51as a gift to your kids.

03:54Every collectible has a story behind it.

03:58For example, the great-great-grandfathers

04:02that will pass on to their next generations.

04:04But what are the things that we can expect

04:07from the Minted Manila Summary Show 2025?

04:09What are the new highlights that we should look forward to?

04:12Okay, there are three things in the show.

04:15One is the exhibits containing modern and vintage items.

04:20This is where you see rare, very rare,

04:24and extremely rare items of collectors for display.

04:28These are not for sale.

04:29And you can only see it at the show.

04:33Sometimes, it's even better than the displays of the museums.

04:40For example, the Philippine artifacts are really here.

04:44So we can see them on the show.

04:47There's also a bar.

04:49It's an activity where people can do trading for the items.

04:55They can also have it appraised.

04:59And then we also have seminars and trainings

05:02led by Dr. Ricardo Jose of the UP Diliman History.

05:10So we'll have it here.

05:12We also have Carl Ramoso doing collaborative leadership.

05:17He's from San Miguel Corporation as well.

05:20So it's very good to actually go and learn more about it.

05:26We also have PCGS.

05:29That's Professional Coin Grading Service.

05:32And Stax and Bowers and Ponterio.

05:34These are the two powerhouses of Asia in terms of the collecting hobby.

05:40Kids can also join.

05:42So they start young, right?

05:44Yes, we're training the kids to start young.

05:46But they're more on cards.

05:48Oh, the Pokemon cards.

05:51There are also limited cards that appraise value.

05:56They also increase the value of the cards.

06:01So kids can also learn.
