00:00You know, when you asked to come over here today,

00:02I was fully prepared to put this to rest and move on.

00:06And I came here to give you my point of view

00:09based on my experience.

00:11OK, then you tell me this.

00:12What happened to your motto, observe, protect, connect?

00:16It's the goal, Biola.

00:17It's always the goal.

00:19Unfortunately, it's not always possible.

00:21Then how do you make it possible?

00:23How else is anything going to change?

00:25I don't know.

00:27But I'm open to suggestions.

00:29I don't know either.

00:31All I know is this, Curtis, that I am tired of it.

00:34I am so tired of turning on the news

00:36and hearing about yet another unarmed black man

00:39being killed by the police.

00:41You think I'm good with it?

00:52I cannot tell you how many times I get called

00:55an Uncle Tom by my own people.

00:58I got into policing to help my community, not to hurt it.

01:02And in the meantime, when I'm out of uniform,

01:06sometimes I fit the description.

01:08Yes, but the difference is that you can still flash your badge,

01:11and that is that.

01:12There was nothing that that young man could have said

01:15or done to make you back off.

01:17Do you have any idea how terrified and helpless

01:21he must have felt?

01:22Believe me, I hate that part of this job.

01:25But it is the job I signed up for.

01:28And I have to stay alive in order to do it.
