Declaration of Independence 1776 Belfast News Letter

The secretary of state for Northern Ireland Hilary Benn reading from the 1776 edition of the Belfast News Letter dated August of that year, that reported the July 4 Declaration of Independence from the previous month, that led to the revolutionary war and the establishment of the United States. Beside him at the Linen Hall library is David Montgomery, owner of the News Letter, on February 26 2025, for the unveiling of a government-backed plan to digitise the early News Letters from the 1700s.
