Meet the man who has spent five years up-close with brutal bare-knuckle fighters - but says he's not a fighter and has never been hit.

John Bolloten, a documentary photographer, started shooting the underground sport in 2020 - and always aims to be right next to the action with his wide-angle lens - so close that he sometimes gets sprayed with blood.

John tells Lucinda Herbert why he's drawn to this visceral subculture, and about his experience of getting to know the people involved.

See John Bolloten's gritty exhibition at the Open Hand Gallery in Abingdon Street Market, Blackpool until 30/03/2025.
