A crucial meeting of the Food and Drug Administration’s vaccine advisory panel has been canceled without explanation. The Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee typically meets in March to select flu strains for upcoming shots. A member of the advisory panel told CNBC they received an email on Wednesday stating that the meeting was canceled with no indication of whether it would be rescheduled. The Department of Health and Human Services has not responded to requests for comment on the canceled meeting. The decision comes as HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his history of vaccine skepticism, takes early actions that could influence U.S. vaccination policy.
