THE first of the month brought a glorious day, with a blue sky and sunshine as 38 members of Tenby’s Steps2Health walking group made the trip to Milford Marina.
There was a strong wind blowing up the haven, so it was pretty cool as people waited for everyone to arrive. Barbara backed by Jane, led the Speedies, while Ty provided a blue-badge guide commentary. Having followed the path of the former railway towards the old mine depot, they climbed up the hill to walk around to the top of the Rath taking in the memorials en route. Kym, supported by Marlene, led the Steadies on a circuit of the marina and harbour, admiring the posh boats and window shopping as they went. At the end, the walkers were spoilt for choice, with a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and bars vying for their custom. It was a grand morning out and there was a real buzz in the minibus as they made their way back to Tenby.
The following Saturday was cold and windy, but thankfully dry. 34 well-wrapped walkers gathered at Battery Gardens for local walks. Kym, backed by Brian, led the larger Speedies group via the Green and Kiln Park to Black Rock. Chris, supported by Marlene, led the Steadies in slow pursuit. Both groups turned back towards the town and went up the South Beach zigzag to the Esplanade. The Steadies headed straight for St Teilo’s and the refreshments on offer there. The Speedies by then had gone through Belmont Arch, down to the harbour and were striding across the North Walk. After powering up the North Beach zigzag they soon arrived at St Teilo’s coffee morning, to claim their share of the goodies on sale.
By Saturday 15, the weather had turned wet. The forecast was for rain all day, so a low turnout of 22 all-weather walkers at Saundersfoot Regency Hall was unsurprising. However the rain held off for the duration of the walk, which was much appreciated. Jane, supported by Brian, led the Speedies towards Coppet Hall and on to St Issell’s church at a brisk pace. Kym, backed by Marlene, led the Steadies behind the fast receding Speedies. When the Steadies reached the church they went once around the graveyard then retraced their steps. The Speedies powered on to the Ridgeway, through some magnificent mud, then returned to the centre of Saundersfoot via Incline Way. Everyone scattered to find refreshments wherever they could after their unexpectedly dry outing.
In contrast, Saturday, February 22 was a glorious sunny day for the 36 walkers. Everyone had a spring in their step as they set off from Battery Gardens, continuing along the Esplanade and on to the Norton. From there the Speedies, led by Brian and backed by Barbara, went on to Gas Lane, the Croft and down the Heart Attack Steps to the beach. The Steadies, headed by Marlene and supported by Chris, walked down the zigzag and on to Castle Hill. All the walkers arrived back at the harbour at the same time where they enjoyed refreshments in the unseasonably marvellous weather.
