00:00Lawmakers in the House are not fazed by alleged results of recent polls indicating public pushback on impeachment against the Vice President.

00:08Likewise, a majority of House Solons feel optimistic the Supreme Court will uphold its impeachment filing and dismiss the Vice President's petition to nullify it, as summed up by our Mela Lesmoras in this report.

00:24Members of the House Prosecution Panel are confident the Supreme Court will not intervene in the impeachment complaint filed by the House of Representatives against Vice President Sara Duterte,

00:36this after the Vice President filed a petition seeking to nullify the impeachment and stop the trial. As of now, the Supreme Court has asked the Congress to submit its comments on the matter.

00:46According to Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua, the Duterte camp has no sufficient basis for their petition.

01:16It is being said here that the initiated needs two things. First, there should be a filing and second, there should be a referral to the Committee on Justice.

01:24There is no referral to the Committee on Justice. So I believe that the element of initiated is not complete.

01:32Bukidnon 2nd District Representative Jonathan Keith-Flores, another House prosecutor, also agrees.

01:38Impeachment is really a political activity and I think the Supreme Court will also respect that unless there is grave abuse of discretion.

01:46But is there in this instance?

01:48I don't think so.

01:50Earlier, a new survey was released indicating the majority of Filipinos are reportedly against the Vice President's impeachment. However, some lawmakers are not convinced.

02:01Well, there is also a survey saying that 73% are in favor of impeachment. So maybe, let's just see what the real pulse is.

02:15But when we go around the districts, we feel that many are giving support to impeachment.

02:23But for me, it does not matter. I think that should be for the Senate to consider because they will be deciding as the impeachment court.

02:31We, as prosecutors, were just assigned to state the facts.

02:36House Assistant Majority Leader Zee Alonto Adjong added, regardless of any survey results, they should not influence the Senate acting as the impeachment court.

02:46I think the Senate has to maintain its impartiality. They need to maintain a level of fairness because ultimately, they will be the one to sit there.

03:00The members of the Senate, the Senators, will be sitting there as judges.
