Not declaring Feb. 25 or the EDSA People Power anniversary as a non-working holiday was neither an effort to erase history, nor undermining the gains from the historic revolution.

This was what Malacañang Press Officer Claire Castro said on criticisms over President Marcos' non declaration of the People Power anniversary as a non-working holiday since 2023, when he moved the holiday from Feb. 25 to Feb. 24 in order to have a long weekend.

00:00As of now, February 25 is declared a special working day, and I think it is the prerogative
00:09of the President.
00:12And when we say special working day, still there is encouragement to people to commemorate,
00:20to join any event, and it will not hinder any activity to commemorate the EDSA People
00:29Power.
00:30But isn't this an effort, ma'am, from Malacanang, para kasi yung mga critics sinasabi na gusto
01:12And at the same time, pansinin po natin, papano po mabubura ang history.
01:15History is history.
01:24Pero what do you want to tell those universities and colleges na nag-decide to suspend their classes to date to commemorate the EDSA anniversary?
01:32They are given the freedom to do that.
01:46So kung balak po nila talaga na sila ay walang klase, it's up to them.
01:51Free po sila to do that.
01:54Related question, isn't this undermining the gains of the EDSA revolution and diminishing its spirit and essence?
02:08No, I don't think so. We don't think so. Why?
02:10Sabi ko nga po kanina, if there is the intention to erase the memories of EDSA people power,
02:20ibang klaseng pamamaraan ang gagawin.
02:22As a matter of fact, we declared it as a special working day.
02:26But it is considered just a regular working day.
02:29But what's the purpose of a special working day?
02:32It's to encourage people to join any event kung kanila kailangan i-commemorate ang isang affair.
