German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be succeeded by conservative opposition leader Friedrich Merz after his party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), secured the largest vote share in Germany's national elections on Sunday.
Transcript
00:00And we have some news is coming in this morning Germany's opposition
00:04Conservatives have won the national election in the country putting Frederick Merz on track to be the next chancellor
00:11Chancellor Olaf Schlosch concedes defeats Merz says he will form the new government quickly for Germany to be present in Europe again
00:20Germany's conservatives have won Sunday's elections with their leader Merz to become the next chancellor followed by the far right
00:28AfD in the second place after record gains according to the exit polls
00:58from CDO and CSU.
01:29It's best ever result.
01:31Gaurav Sawant getting in more details in that story this morning.
01:34Gaurav, good morning.
01:36First of all, talk to us a little about this win for the Conservatives.
01:40Maaz has made a significant statement,
01:42saying that this is going to be his attempt now
01:45to put Germany back in Europe once again.
01:49So it's a very interesting development that's taking place.
01:53These are exit polls that show the opposition Conservatives,
01:55they're winning with German election record,
02:02AFC achieving about 20% of vote.
02:05Coalition talks are only now set to begin.
02:08And on this, Donald Trump looks like the Conservative Party in Germany
02:13has won the big and highly anticipated election.
02:16Much like the USA, the people of Germany got tired of no common sense agenda.
02:21Especially very important aspect here is the immigration aspect,
02:26the number of illegals who've come into Germany.
02:29And it's a good day for Germany and for the United States
02:33and the leadership of Donald Trump.
02:35Congratulations to all.
02:37You remember Georgia Maloney just yesterday,
02:39a statement of hers went viral,
02:41where she said that Conservatives across the world
02:43are now coming together.
02:45You know, whether it's Donald Trump in America
02:48or Georgia Maloney in Italy.
02:51And she said maybe even Narendra Modi in India.
02:54And this is what the left is unable to swallow.
02:59Now, this is what appears to be happening even in Germany.
03:03You'd recall there's been a sharp spike in crimes against women
03:07in other crimes in Germany,
03:09because a large number of illegal Syrians
03:12and people from Turkey and Afghanistan
03:15who've come into Germany.
03:16There's been a national outcry.
03:19But what happens next remains to be seen.
03:23Donald Trump's statement becomes extremely interesting
03:26at a time when Elon Musk was being accused of interfering
03:29in Germany's elections also.
03:32Well, absolutely. Gaurav, be with us.
03:34I'll just come back to you in a moment from now
03:36in related news, which is breaking at this point in time,
03:39a reaction from President Donald Trump.
03:41Now, Trump has hailed conservatives' victory in Germany.
03:46Trump has said conservatives' victory is a great day for Germany.
03:50Germans got tired of no common sense agenda.
03:53Germany's conservatives have won Sunday's elections
03:56with their leader Merz now set to become the next chancellor,
04:00followed by the far-right AFD,
04:02to tell our viewers in second place after record gains
04:05according to exit polls, like Gaurav is telling us.
04:08In fact, Gaurav, what we also saw was that Merz
04:12did not even wait for the final results really
04:14before talking about what he intends to do next,
04:17a significant statement coming in,
04:20you know, talking about the fact that NATO could be soon dead.
04:24How do you look at this statement in the context
04:26of the ongoing war as well?
04:29Well, you know, that's a very interesting question
04:32because Donald Trump expects NATO to spend much more
04:38to look after not just Ukraine,
04:41but also better protect England.
04:44And Ukraine at the same time has been saying
04:47that Europe must have its own army.
04:49But where will the money come from?
04:51Three years of this war has almost drained
04:55the coffers of several European countries.
04:57Donald Trump has repeatedly said
04:59that he will not be funding this war.
05:00The centre-right Christian Democratic Union,
05:04along with the Bavarian party,
05:06the Christian Social Union,
05:08you know, they've emerged as this largest bloc.
05:11They've secured about 28.5%.
05:14Now it remains to be seen
05:16whether they're able to come together
05:18and form their government.
05:20But one thing, as you rightly pointed out,
05:22it's a huge setback to Chancellor Olaf Scholz,
05:25SPD, the Social Democratic Party,
05:27because they've suffered a massive, massive setback
05:30dropping to the third position in these elections.
05:33And this goes on to indicate
05:35that Olaf Scholz's policies of the support to Ukraine
05:39or the rise in prices of gas,
05:42the inflation, the unemployment, the illegals,
05:45all of that, perhaps German, is enough.
05:48All right, Gaurav, getting us those details.
05:51I want to thank you for the moment, Gaurav Sawant,
05:53putting that big story into perspective.
05:55We have a reaction, in fact,
05:57from the newly appointed chancellor.
06:00Listen into what he said.
06:26More news coming in this morning.

08:19Anmol, finally, in fact,
08:21when the flight was inspected,
08:23the information that was found
08:25was about what had happened there.
08:55All right, I'm going to thank you, Anmol,
08:57for getting us those details,
08:59Anmol Bali,
09:01with that report on the flight
09:03from New York to New Delhi
09:05being diverted due to a threat perception
09:07which is now deemed to be
09:09determined to be non-credible.

13:18More news is coming in this morning.
13:20The Chief Minister has said that the government exchequer has been left emptied by the previous
13:24regime, assures bringing women and scheme, women scheme in fact and delivering on their
13:30four promises.
13:31The Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has alleged that the previous AAP government had left
13:37an empty public exchequer before the BJP dispensation and assured that 2500 rupees monthly payment
13:43scheme for women would be implemented with detailed planning.
13:46Gupta's predecessor Ateeshi hit back saying after 10 years AAP regime handed over fiscally
13:52strong government to the BJP, the party must focus on delivering on their promises instead
13:57of making excuses is what Ateesha has added, the previous Chief Minister has added.
14:08The exchequer was left empty by the previous government is what Rekha Gupta, the newly
14:12appointed Chief Minister of Delhi has said.
14:14The previous AAP government led by Ateeshi has gone after her saying that a fiscally
14:19strong government was given to the BJP, Anmol has more details on that, Anmol this has been
14:25the refrain of the AAP party since the very beginning that as far as the fiscal policies
14:30are concerned or the fiscal as for the exchequer really is concerned, this government is not
14:37in the negative, in fact it's in profit is what the AAP had also previously said and
14:44this is something that Ateeshi is repeating now again.
14:46Sneha as you know that Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Delhi Vidhan Sabha election, that
14:53was an historic victory for the party which has won after 27 years in the national capital
14:58and this will be their first Vidhan Sabha session where it will be seen that on the
15:01very first day various of the other MLAs will be taking oath in the assembly and as
15:07well as elections for the speaker and the deputy speaker will take place, the pro-tum
15:12speaker will also take place and on the second day of the assembly session they will be tabling
15:16the CAG report because that the Bharatiya Janata Party have been accusing Aam Aadhi
15:21Party, the former Aam Aadhi Party government, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Ateeshi
15:27Mallina were the two CMs, they accused them of plundering the treasure of national capital,
15:32so these kind of accusations were made and now they will table the CAG reports in the
15:37house and they will be showing the CAG reports and which led to the depletion of treasure
15:44what Bharatiya Janata Party is saying but on the other hand the Aam Aadhi Party thinks
15:47Delhi is a surplus, it's a state which was in profit, so now the facts and figures will
15:52be coming out from the CAG report which will soon be tabled in the house.
15:57Thank you for getting in those details as my colleague Anmol telling us about this,
16:02what are words that has broken out over the exchequer really is concerned as far as the
16:08Delhi CM is concerned, she has said that the AAP government left the government without
16:15any money, the AAP says that they handed over a fiscally strong government to the BJP.
16:27And it's a race against time to rescue workers trapped inside Telangana tunnel,
16:41efforts are underway to rescue eight trapped workers after the roof of the
16:46Sri Salem left bank canal tunnel in Telangana's Nagarkurnool collapsed on Saturday. Now in spite
16:54of relentless efforts by the Indian Army, the NDRF and other agencies no breakthrough was
17:00achieved on Sunday in the rescue operations to help workers who've been trapped for over 48
17:06hours now. Workers are stuck in a 15 meter stretch of the tunnel caught between the
17:11collapsed rock and the boring machine there. The diameter of the tunnel is 9.5 feet further
17:18complicating the rescue efforts. The accident occurred due to the slippage of a concrete
17:23segment that was used to seal the seepage at 14 kilometers inlet of the tunnel which
17:28runs from Sri Salem towards Devanakonda.
17:35See, ultimately we are human beings who have to do all our efforts. Why should we take chance?
17:42Why should we take chance? Life is life. We cannot, because rebirth won't be there.
17:49Even the slightest chance is there, we should try to save the life. So we don't want to leave that 100 meters,
17:55150 meters of water left over also.
17:57There are eight people inside the tunnel, four of them are laborers, and there are four are the employees of the company,
18:05and there are two from the American company employees. One is from Kashmir, another from some other state.
18:11Unfortunate tragedy took place there, for which of course the government is also responsible,
18:17we are also responsible, the system is responsible for that. However, to rescue the persons,
18:23particularly the engineers who are already in the tunnel, one NDRF team from Andhra Pradesh and two
18:31NDRF teams from Telangana already reached that particular place near Sri Salem. Hopefully,
18:38all persons, all engineers and other technical persons, I hope, I pray to God also to come out safely.
18:45Karnataka vs Maharashtra border row reignites. Things began to heat up after MSRTC bus which
18:52was flying from Bengaluru to Mumbai was attacked in Chitradurga on Friday night by pro-Kannada
18:57activists. The driver of the bus was also defaced by the protesters. A day later, the conductor of
19:04the bus was allegedly assaulted in Belagavi district of Karnataka for not speaking in Marathi.
19:10Now, pro-Kannada activists will stage Belagavi Chalo March to protest against this particular
19:15attack. But it didn't stop here. On Sunday, several KSRT buses were vandalized and defaced
19:20in Maharashtra. This came in retaliation to an attack on MSRTC driver in Karnataka. As tension
19:28simmers, both states have stopped bus services to other states. Karnataka Transport Minister
19:33will be visiting Belagavi today and will hold discussions on safety of KSRTC staff and the
19:39operation of buses to Maharashtra.
19:41On the basis of the complaint about the bus conductor, already four people have been taken
20:09into custody and the police department is doing some more inquiry. We are already trying to find
20:16out if any more people besides the accused have already been arrested or involved in this. So,
20:22the case has been raised and action has already been taken. Some incidents are happening which are
20:32really not good. They have disturbed the society. I only want this type of thing should not
20:46get repeated. Government of Karnataka will make all efforts to see that this type of
20:55unnecessary event takes place. They were talking in Marathi. He told that,
21:02I don't know Marathi. We will talk in Kannada. At that time, that boy and two, three others,
21:11they beaten our conductor and our MD directed the concerned officers to give complaint.
21:20The police arrested and the court has given for 14 days custody.
21:29On language, I think whatever has happened is not correct. Every local person should try to speak
21:36in Kannada language. If he doesn't know also, he should not be attacking the person who asked him
21:40to speak in Kannada. That is not fair. And serious action, already the government has
21:46taken up action. They are arrested and we will take action on them. We will not spare them.
21:52Action is a must because it is not acceptable.
22:16Over USAID's alleged role in influencing Indian elections, the latest annual report
22:21of the finance ministry has discovered that the agency funded seven projects worth
22:26750 US dollars in 2023-2024, 750 million USD. During the year, no funding was made for
22:38enhancing voter turnout, but to projects related to agriculture and food security program,
22:44water sanitation and hygiene, renewable energy, disaster management and health.
22:51S.J. Shankar on Saturday said that the information put out by the Trump
22:55administration is concerning and that the government is looking into it.
23:05All right, this has got to do with the kind of funding that was made to India
23:09around the year 2023-2024. This has now been disclosed by the finance ministry
23:15that the agency funded seven projects worth 750 million US dollars in 2023-2024.
23:25USAID funded seven projects in India last year is what we are learning.
23:30This has been disclosed by the finance ministry. In fact, in this particular year,
23:36no funding was made for enhancing voter turnout, but to projects related to water,
23:41agriculture, food, sanitation, renewable energy and hygiene.
23:56And more news coming in. Politics over USAID funding rages on. Congress has questioned Prime
24:02Minister Modi and S.J. Shankar's silence. Congress says Trump has insulted India. PM must answer.
24:07BJP spreads fake news from the US, says the Congress party. Congress says Prime Minister,
24:12External Affairs Minister must answer why the government is silent in spite of Trump insulting
24:17India. And with the USAID funding, Rao, the Congress on Sunday accused the BJP of indulging
24:22in anti-national work and spreading fake news from America and asserted that Prime Minister Modi
24:28and External Affairs Minister S.J. Shankar will also have to answer as to why the government
24:34is silent when US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk are insulting India repeatedly.
24:43I'm going to go straight across to Morshmi for more details on that. Morshmi,
24:46these are revelations also that have been made about money that was spent last year to fund
24:52various a development projects. This is something that Trump administration has been talking about.
24:57But on that front, there is silence from the government and that's why Congress is going after
25:02it. That's right. You know, earlier when the US President Donald Trump had made a remark on this
25:14issue, it had created quite a good political storm with the BJP lapping up Donald Trump's
25:21comments. But with the latest revelations, the Congress is accusing the Modi government and
25:28Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent on this issue. And clearly, you know, this funding
25:37issue has raked up yet again an issue about how the electorate of India was trying to be influenced
25:46and the tug of war has broken out with now the Congress demanding a white paper on this entire
25:54matter. All right, I'm going to thank you. Demanding a white paper is the Congress party
25:58on this entire matter. This is politics over the US aid funding, which now reveals that
26:04last year there was no money spent for voter turnout, but for various
26:09government projects, the Congress says the BJP government must answer.
26:32All right, now attacking the opposition parties for their critical remarks on the Mahakumar Prime
26:37Minister Modi stated in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur, and those with slave mentality
26:42keep attacking the country's religious and cultural traditions with the backing of foreign
26:48powers. Here's a detailed report on what the Prime Minister said.
26:54Explosive political escalation on Mahakumar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi coming down hard
26:59on opposition netas for allegedly maligning the Kumbh Mela, accusing them of harbouring
27:05an anti-Hindu mindset, which denigrates the Hindu faith, culture and festivals.
27:14While addressing a gathering at the revered pilgrimage site of Bageshwar Dham in Madhya
27:18Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi said vile attempts are being made to divide people
27:23with the help from foreign entities.
27:35Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking in Hindi.
28:04PM Modi alleged that a progressive religion like Hinduism and its temples and traditions
28:09are being regularly mocked and targeted.
28:34PM Modi's statement comes in the backdrop of Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee calling Mahakumar
28:56as the Mrityu Kumbh and was seconded by Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
29:26PM Modi speaking in Hindi.
29:32Earlier Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath slammed opposition for spreading
29:36misinformation against the Kumbh Mela.
29:38PM Modi speaking in Hindi.
29:56So far over 60 crore people reportedly have visited the pilgrim city of Prayagraj
30:01for the dip at the holy waters of the Trimini Sangam.
30:05Bureau report India Today.
30:09Well, the opposition from Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to the Congress has hit out
30:15at the Mahakumar, listening to what they have been saying.
31:38Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking in Hindi.
32:08Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking in Hindi.
32:38And the race against time to rescue workers trapped inside the Telangana tunnel.
32:50Efforts are underway to rescue eight trapped workers after the roof of the
32:55Sri Salem left bank canal tunnel in Telangana's Nagarkurnool district
33:01collapsed on Saturday.
33:03In spite of relentless efforts by the Indian army, the NDRF
33:06and other agencies, no breakthrough unfortunately has been achieved on Sunday on the rescue work
33:12to help workers who have been trapped for 48 hours now.
33:16Workers are stuck in the 15 meter stretch of the tunnel caught between the collapsed rock
33:21and the boring machine.
33:22The diameter of this tunnel is 9.5 feet, further complicating the rescue efforts.
33:28The accident occurred due to the slippage of a concrete segment that was used to seal the seepage
33:33at the 14 kilometer inlet of the tunnel, which runs from Sri Salem towards Devarakonda.
34:03Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking in Hindi.
34:18Unfortunate tragedy took place there for which of course the government is also responsible,
34:24we are also responsible, the system is responsible for that.
34:27However, to rescue the persons, particularly the engineers who are already in the tunnel,
34:35one NDRF team from Andhra Pradesh and two NDRF teams from Telangana already reached
34:42that particular place near Sri Salem.
34:44Hopefully, all persons, all engineers and other technical persons,
34:49I hope, I pray to God also to come out safely.
34:57Just absolutely no information of the workers who have been stuck inside.
35:01Now, talk to us about whether there will be a change in strategy.
35:05What are the efforts today going to be looking like?
35:08What are the challenges that they're facing here?
35:11Well, yes, it's been almost 48 hours since the tragedy had taken place where
35:16eight workers are still stuck or trapped inside the, you know, the tunnel, the tunnel,
35:22where the tunnel boarding machine or 200 meters of the slush or mud that has formed
35:28inside where the workers, I mean, the workers are trapped.
35:31NDRF and the army officials have tried a strategy yesterday but in vain.
35:37Now the authorities are trying to, you know, have discussions with the engineers and
35:42trying to, you know, change the strategy.
35:44And today mostly it is said that there must be some kind of, you know, development in the,
35:50I don't know, the rescuing the workers who are trapped inside.
35:54Now there is no communication with the workers.
35:56The authorities have gone to the place and tried to call their names but no response.
36:00So this is what has happened in the, you know, Domala Peta, where the, you know,
36:08ceiling of a tunnel had collapsed in Domala Peta.
36:14Abdul, getting in those details from Nagar Kurnool where the mishap has taken place.
36:18Thanking you for the moment.
36:19We'll, of course, keep coming back to you for more on the rescue work.
36:49A three-day session will see the election of the House Speaker as well as the Deputy Speaker.
36:54In a bid to expose AAP-era scams,
36:55the newly elected Delhi government will be tabling 14 pending CAG reports

38:19Amid this, Atishi has slammed BJP for peddling lies,
38:21claiming that CAG reports were sent to Speaker before the Delhi election.
38:49The CAG reports, I have sent those CAG reports to the Chief Minister, Speaker.
38:59So, this is being spread that the Indian People's Party has taken a decision.
39:05These CAG reports had gone into a sealed envelope before the election.
39:13These CAG reports were supposed to be presented in the first house.
39:19So, the Indian People's Party is trying to spread this lie
39:25that they have taken a decision and will present those reports.
39:28This is a complete lie.

40:22Time for a break on the other side.
40:24Germany's opposition conservatives
40:26win the national elections.
40:28Frederik Meurs on track to be the next chancellor.
40:45Mama must be missing us, na?
40:47Let's get you open, give me one day
40:49Feel the edge on my skin, it's a one day
40:51You'll be like it when you feed me, it's a hey!
40:59New GT line, Taigun and Virtus.
41:05Trekking in the monsoon is quite a risk.
41:08So be careful.
41:10You also take risks, dad, don't you?
41:11Me?
41:13I don't even risk drinking hot tea.
41:16I'm talking about the stock market.
41:18Trade only in those products
41:20that are within your risk-taking capacity
41:22and with knowledge of that risk.
41:24Taking too much risk increases the chances
41:27of both profits and losses.
41:50I'm here to tell you the truth,
42:07even when it's hard to hear.
42:14Find a pet-friendly Italian restaurant
42:17with outdoor seating nearby
42:18and texture to the grill.
42:49Welcome back.
42:50It's big victory for opposition conservatives in Germany.
42:53Opposition leader Friedrich Schmerz's
42:55conservatives are all set to form a government in Germany
42:59after Olaf Schloz's conceded defeat.
43:01While celebrating with the party workers,
43:03Meurs said that he was prepared for the polls
43:06and this victory as well.
43:07He also said that he doesn't know
43:09how many partners the conservatives will need
43:12for a majority in parliament,
43:13but coalition talks are on.
43:15The outgoing German chancellor
43:17has taken full responsibility
43:19for the disappointing poll results.
43:47This is also a real defeat.
43:50I think this must be said clearly
43:52and clearly at the beginning of the result.
43:55And for me it is also very important to say
43:57that this is a result
43:59from which we have to move forward together.
44:01And that's why I would like to thank
44:04all those who made it possible
44:06that we have fought so hard for the last weeks and months.
44:10The polls didn't get any better.
44:13Nevertheless, everywhere in Germany,
44:15social democrats and social democrats
44:18made active election campaigns.
44:45Thank you, Sneha, for having me on the program.
44:47Well, Germany, of course, has a new chancellor.
44:51As expected, the conservative alliance of the CDU
44:54and the CSU has won the election.
44:56I think the first question will be
44:59who they will form a coalition with.
45:01And this will need to be a workable and stable coalition,
45:04unlike the previous traffic light coalition.
45:08With regards to foreign policy issues
45:11and with your question on Donald Trump,
45:13I think this coalition would be a more decisive one
45:17than the previous coalition that Germany had,
45:20which will be good for the EU,
45:21given that we've seen the political vacuum
45:24that the EU has been facing
45:25with both its traditional power centers,
45:28France and Germany,
45:29facing the political turmoil at home
45:31at a time when the Russia-Ukraine war
45:33is raging on the continent.
45:36MERS intends to strengthen ties with Paris and Warsaw,
45:40which deteriorated under Scholz.
45:42And of course, he faces the added challenge
45:45of dealing with a volatile Trump administration.
45:48We saw at the Munich Security Conference recently
45:52when Vice President J.D. Vance
45:54attacked the EU and its policies.
45:56Then you had Russian and American officials
45:59meeting in Saudi Arabia to negotiate an end to the war,
46:02with no Europeans or Ukrainians invited to the room.
46:06So the US is unlikely to continue
46:09to provide for European security.
46:11Europe will have to take care
46:12of its own security and defense going forward,
46:15given that this is a sort of complete breakdown
46:18in trust in the transatlantic alliance.
46:20So I think it's good to have somebody
46:22like MERS at the helm now.
46:24Hopefully, Germany will have a more stable coalition now
46:27that will also be able to tackle
46:30the foreign policy challenges
46:31that Europe is facing at the moment,
46:33especially when it comes to its security.
46:35It's a good time, it's a good opportunity
46:37to sort of reinstate German leadership in Europe
46:40at a time of this great disruption
46:42that we are witnessing.
46:43You know, and also helping the situation
46:45would be the fact that Italy is on the same page
46:48as far as conservatives are concerned.
46:50And hence the statement also from MERS
46:52talking about how there will be replacement
46:54of the American umbrella
46:55as far as a nuclear umbrella is concerned.
46:58And there would be further cooperation,
47:00nuclear cooperation between countries like France,
47:04the UK and Germany, among others.
47:07How do you read this statement?
47:09Well, I think that remains to be seen.
47:11You know, when you talk about nuclear issues,
47:13it's really only France and the UK
47:15that have nuclear weapons on the continent.
47:17But certainly, I think a nuclear deterrent,
47:20a common European nuclear deterrent
47:22could be a way forward to enhance European security.
47:26Germany, you know, has, under the Scholz government,
47:28undergone the Zeitun-Wende.
47:30So of course, it remains to be seen
47:32whether the Zeitun-Wende would apply
47:33to Germany's historical reticence
47:35when it comes to nuclear weapons,
47:37given its dark history in the past.
47:39Be with us, Sherry.
47:40I'm just going to come back to you
47:41in a moment from now.
47:42Sherry Malhotra,
47:42they're from the Observer Research Foundation,
47:44sharing with us her perspective
47:46on what this means for politics in the region.
47:49And staying with these developments,
47:51the Italian prime minister
47:52has also rained fire on liberals.
47:55Now, Giorgia Melanie launched a scathing attack
47:58on what she describes as a liberal network
48:01accused the left of hypocrisy.
48:03She named some leaders
48:04who are leading the conservative movement
48:06across the world,
48:07which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
48:10and said that Bill Clinton and Tony Blair
48:12created a global leftist liberal network
48:14who call these leaders like Trump,
48:17Modi, a threat to democracy.
48:19Prime Minister Melanie argued
48:21that liberals have become increasingly frustrated
48:23with the rise of right-wing leaders,
48:25particularly following President Trump's
48:27return to the White House.
48:31When Bill Clinton and Tony Blair
48:33created a global leftist liberal network
48:36in the 90s,
48:37they were called statesmen.
48:40Today, when Trump, Melanie,
48:43Millet, or maybe Modi talk,
48:46they are called a threat to democracy.
48:50This is the left's double standard.
48:54But we are used to it.
48:57And the good news is,
48:59people no longer believe in their lies.
49:01Despite all the mud they throw at us,
49:06citizens keep voting for us.
49:09Because simply,
49:10people are not naive
49:12as the left considers them.
49:16They vote for us because we defend freedom.
49:19We love our nations.
49:21We want secure borders.
49:23We preserve businesses and citizens
49:26from the green leftist insanity.
49:28We defend family and life.
49:30We fight against wokeism.
49:32We protect our sacred right
49:34to our fate and our free speech.
49:38And we stand for common sense
49:40when we stop the invasions,
49:43won our independences,
49:45and overthrew dictators.
49:47And we have done it together
49:49the last three years in Ukraine,
49:52where a proud people fight
49:54for their freedom against the brutal aggression.
49:57And we must continue today
49:58working together for a just and lasting peace,
50:01a peace that can only be built
50:03with the contribution of all,
50:05but above all, with strong leaderships.
50:08And I know that with Donald Trump
50:11leading the United States,
50:13we will never again see the disaster
50:15we saw in Afghanistan four years ago.
50:19Vice President Pence was discussing something deeper.
50:22Identity, democracy, and freedom.
50:27Freedom of speech.
50:29In short, Europe's historic role and mission.
50:35Many pretended to be outraged,
50:37calling for European pride
50:39against an American dating to lecture us.
50:44But let me tell you,
50:46as someone who is proud to be European,
50:50first, if those who were outraged
50:54had shown the same pride
50:56when Europe lost its strategic autonomy,
51:00tying its economy to autocratic regimes,
51:03or when European borders
51:05and our way of life were threatened
51:07by mass illegal migration,
51:09now we would live in a stronger Europe.
51:12Sherry Malhotra continues to be with us.
51:14Sherry, how do you look at that statement?
51:16You know, Georgia, Melanie,
51:17not mincing any words there.
51:19Mud that they throw at us is what she said
51:22in very strong words,
51:23talking about the fact that
51:25previously the leaders would be called statesmen,
51:27and we are called as threat to democracy.
51:30I think these statements also, in a way,
51:32indicate and give a sign of the times to come,
51:36really, isn't it?
51:38When it comes to, you know,
51:39cooperation between these leaders.
51:43Yes, well, I think, you know,
51:44Maloney represents the far right.
51:47And, you know, this is a phenomenon
51:49that we're seeing throughout Europe.
51:51It's a new era in Europe,
51:53one in which the far right
51:54has made advances in all parts of the continent,
51:56from Germany to France to Spain and the Netherlands.
52:00At the EU level as well, last year in June,
52:02when you had the European Parliament elections,
52:05even while the centre right held ground,
52:08the far right did, you know,
52:10gain a lot of advances in those elections.
52:13So we've seen the sort of rampant economic
52:15and political instability in Europe.
52:18And I think this has led to a decline
52:19in the popularity of mainstream parties
52:22and also a boosted support for the far right.
52:24And this whole American interference,
52:27you know, Elon Musk,
52:28that has controversially inserted himself
52:30into the German election campaign.
52:32He campaigned in favour of the alternative
52:34for Deutschland party,
52:36which fared very well in the elections.
52:38They came second in place.
52:40So I think this is the sort of phenomena
52:42that we're witnessing today in Europe.
52:44And in fact, you know,
52:46politicians across Europe,
52:48even Scholes, Chancellor Scholes,
52:50several mainstream parties
52:52and politicians across Europe
52:54have been guilty of pandering
52:55to the far right agenda,
52:56given that the far right is advancing so quickly.
52:58So we saw a few months ago
53:01that Scholes had introduced new security measures
53:04on border control as a response
53:06to the recent stabbings in Germany
53:07that involved migrants.
53:09In January, in fact,
53:11the incoming Chancellor, Friedrich Merz,
53:13pushed through a non-binding motion
53:15on tougher immigration rules
53:17with support for the far right AFD.
53:19And in a sense,
53:20he was accused of breaking the so-called firewall,
53:22which is a sort of unwritten agreement
53:24to never work or seek the support of the far right.
53:28In France, the firewall is referred to
53:30as the cordon sanitaire.
53:32But, you know, in Germany,
53:33with its dark history,
53:34again, the firewall is even more sacred.
53:36So there are fears that his weakening
53:38of the firewall against the AFD
53:40could further normalise the far right
53:42and its rhetoric in Europe.
53:44And of course, if Germany,
53:45which is, you know,
53:46Europe's traditional powerhouse,
53:48abandons the firewall against the far right,
53:50this could set off a precedent in Europe.
53:52Well, absolutely.
53:53Sherry, I'm going to thank you
53:54for joining in and sharing your views with us.
53:56Certainly interesting times ahead,
53:58of course, this election could change the narrative
54:01and also Europe's response really to issues
54:03like their approach towards Trump
54:05and also the Russia-Ukraine ongoing war.
54:09This obviously will have an impact on that too.
54:12Thanking you.
54:13Leaving it at that for the moment, Sherry.
54:48The panel will explore ways to involve private companies
54:52also to speed up aircraft manufacturing and deliveries.
54:55The Indian Air Force awaits the delivery of LCMK-1A.
54:58Indian Air Force chief has raised concerns
55:00over the delays by the HAL.
55:07Shivani has got more details on that.
55:09Shivani, very recently,
55:10concerns were raised and HAL had also clarified.
55:12But the centre now having a panel now ready
55:16to take a look at these issues
55:18on how the gaps can be filled,
55:20how the loopholes can be looked into
55:23so that the delays are plugged in.
55:46And that's why the Indian Air Force chief
55:48had been raising concerns over these delays by the HAL.
55:52And recently, also remember, Sneha,
55:53we had broken a story where the Indian Air Force chief
55:56was heard raising concerns about these delays
56:00in the LCA-MK-1A programme from the HAL,
56:03after which the HAL had also given out some clarifications.
56:06So now a high-level committee has been formed.
56:09This is a five-member committee
