00:00More than 4,000 delegates from DAP will gather on March 16 to elect 30 members to sit on the party's central executive committee for the next three years.
00:12The elected members will then choose the party's office bearers for the 2025-2028 term, a crucial period leading up to the next general election, due by November 2027.
00:25Sources expect party chairman Lim Kuan Yew to get onto the CEC, but say he may find it harder to secure enough votes to retain chairmanship of the party.
00:36A source told FMT that there are forces out to end Lim's career within and outside the party, and he would not be able to retain his post on his own.
00:46The source said Lim had to seek the support of DAP Secretary-General Lok Si Fok and Perak Chief Nga Kor Ming, who have considerable sway in the election outcome.
00:57Another party source said Lim's history of political struggles may earn him some sympathy, but may not be enough to guarantee a victory.
01:06The source said the older leaders and members who witnessed those struggles have either passed on or are being replaced by the younger generation.
01:15The source estimated that Lim could secure eight to ten strong allies on the CEC, but would still need support from six to eight members of Lok and Nga's factions to retain his post.
