German police arrested a suspect in the stabbing at Berlin's Holocaust Memorial on Friday (Feb 21) evening, which left a man seriously injured just days before a national election.

Authorities have not revealed the suspect's motive, but the attacker is believed to be a 19-year-old Syrian asylum seeker.

00:24Nearly three hours later, the suspect approached officers near the memorial grounds, where
00:29they tackled and handcuffed him.
00:31An eyewitness reported that the victim and the suspect appeared to approach each other
00:35before the victim was suddenly stabbed.
00:38The victim was seriously injured and had to be rushed to the hospital by the fire brigade
00:42for emergency treatment.
00:45The incident came two days before German national elections and after a series of deadly attacks
00:50that have shocked Germany, including car rammings and stabbing sprees.
