00:00Newgrounds at the time was probably the most unique site.
00:09You had music, games, animation.
00:12It was just this hub of unfiltered creativity.
00:16Newgrounds, the first time that I was seeing things made by like normal psychos.
00:21Hello.
00:22If you made animation, you were there.
00:24And so you could see all the future of animation.
00:26People were making stuff that would never make it to air.
00:29Like literally could not exist anywhere but Newgrounds.
00:32Even today, to have somewhere that's just purely creative
00:35and people can still engage with a purely creative thing is like really rare.
00:39But I think it's really crucial for animation society.
00:42It's not business first. It's definitely artist first.
00:45And that is something to commend.
00:47With that comes a sense of what are you willing to allow on a website like that.
00:53Newgrounds
00:57Hi, I'm Connor.
00:59I've produced short films and a feature-length documentary.
01:01But I never would have gotten into filmmaking if it weren't for Newgrounds.
01:04Before social media, before YouTube or even Google,
01:07Newgrounds was the place where creativity exploded online.
01:11It was the first place where you could share your own animation or game.
01:14And it shaped the path of so many creators you know today.
01:17Now as the site turns 30 years old, we feel it's time to share its story.
01:21The highs, the lows and its ultimate perseverance thanks to the vision of Tom Fulp
01:26who has consistently kept creativity at the forefront of the site.
01:29We've already brought on nearly four dozen people
01:32and have interviewed several iconic Newgrounds users in person.
01:35We also have access to footage from a 2009 project
01:38giving us a treasure trove of great moments from that time.
01:41But in order to tell the full story, we need your help.
01:44With our $80,000 goal, we can hit the road and interview Newgrounds staff,
01:49users and legends in person.
01:51But we're dreaming bigger.
01:52If we hit $100,000, we can kickstart post-production
01:55and get this film one step closer to completion.
01:58If we hit $150,000, we can commission brand new animations
02:01and a kickass soundtrack from users on the site.
02:04At $200,000, we fully finance production and post-production.
02:08And if we hit $400,000, we can finance production, post-production, marketing and distribution.
02:14Meaning the film is done and everyone sees it.
02:17We've lined up some awesome rewards for you guys,
02:19including posters, Blu-rays and shirts with an exclusive design
02:23by Newgrounds artists Pete Kettles and Hibachi.
02:26We're also offering a campaign-exclusive run of plushies of Pico, Nene and Darnell
02:31designed by MindChamber.
02:33The story of Newgrounds is a story of the internet,
02:36a story of wild creativity and community.
02:38And in a time where algorithms and AI-created content run rampant,
02:42Newgrounds is a reminder of what the internet can be.
02:45Please consider donating and let's tell this story together.
