Corn Catastrophe! Puppy Rushed To Surgery After Swallowing Whole Corn on the Cob!
Transcript
00:00I'm Zadie, I'm Deputy Clinical Director at Wolverhampton Branch, and I was on call for the evening when she came over.
00:07She was diagnosed here at Shiffnall as having eaten, unfortunately, a rather large piece of corn on the cob.
00:16Now, corn on the cobs can cause lots of problems, especially in a young puppy, and it was rather large and too big for her to, unfortunately, bother back.
00:25So I was on call, and we made the decision to go in and retrieve it surgically from her stomach.
00:30So it was quite a routine surgery. Actually, I say most surgeries, it's not routine, but it was straightforward in that we managed to remove it without any complications, and she's healed incredibly well.
00:42This is something that puppies, they are very, very used to eating things and very, very good at eating things where they then get stuck and have problems.
00:52So it's very important that we get on top of these very, very quickly, and I think the reason why she made such a good recovery is because you brought her in so early, so early on in the process.
01:03You caught it very quickly, you knew exactly what had happened, and you went, I need to get this sorted.
01:07And that's the biggest thing, is if you know your puppy has eaten something bad, it doesn't matter what it is, it could be a corn on the cob, but it could be a sock, or it could be a chewing gum.
01:17Five days before, it was cling film, if I remember.
01:20It was, the chalk and the bean, yeah.
01:21Yeah, so five days before, it was cling film.
01:24So, yeah, I was the surgeon on call, and we operated, and she stayed in for a couple of nights, but has made a superb recovery, hasn't she?
01:33Yeah.
