Transcript
00:00To get up close and personal to a zebra and feed a zebra and stroke him, photographs phenomenal.
00:10People are just so happy to come and see him.
00:13When it comes to quirky pets, Bev Griffiths from Equine Dreams of Bawtree must surely
00:17own one of the quirkiest in Yorkshire, if not the country. Meet Ziggy the zebra.
00:23This will be my, coming up my seventh year of owning Ziggy. It came with Jenny, his best
00:29friend the donkey. We have an area for Ziggy to live in. It's a two acre paddock. We have
00:36to monitor the temperature. So through the winter months, Ziggy comes in a lot because,
00:42obviously because of the temperatures. When I first got Ziggy, I really wanted to ride
00:47him. I've got right up to leading him in a bridle, putting blankets over him, but it
00:53was too much for him. Jenny, just absolutely amazing as well, Jenny. We can't miss Jenny
00:58out. She just, wherever Ziggy goes, Jenny's there.
01:03Ziggy has left a lasting impression on locals and visitors to the area.
01:07We've had a lot of people come and see Ziggy. We've done a lot for mental health. The look
01:13on their faces is just amazing. Some cry. They just can't believe it when they see we've
01:19got a real zebra in Doncaster, in Bawtree. We've done baby showers. We've done engagements.
01:27We've done pony parties, unicorn parties, alpaca parties. We do afternoon teas. Anything
01:34that people love about animals, we try and do.
01:40Ziggy and Jenny aren't the only animals that call Equine Dreams of Bawtree home.
01:44We've got us miniature donkeys from Holland. There's alpacas because we do alpaca trekking.
01:49We have two ducks, Gloria and Daffy. They're amazing. We have, oh, not forgetting us Norwegian
01:55reindeers, Rudolph and Dasher, that are now on holiday. They're relaxing. They've had
02:00a busy period through December. We also have us black-nosed fallow sheep from Switzerland.
02:06And I must say, we've got the smallest horse. Wait while you see her blossom. She's amazing.
02:13She's tiny.
02:14Despite the hard work, Bev's passion for her pets is ever-present.
02:18I am very, very lucky. Obviously, very lucky to own a zebra. But also, it did take me a
02:24lot to get Ziggy. So I've had to have my DWA license, my zoo license, my exhibitor's license.
02:33All the pens and everything has to be done correctly so that Ziggy is comfortable and
02:37safe, the public safe. I've got fantastic staff. I have to mention my staff are absolutely
02:43amazing.
02:44It's amazing. To come here, you've just got to love animals, and we do. And they give
02:48us great pleasure. And what more do we want to be looking after these beautiful animals?
