00:00A destruction plant of smuggled cigarettes was discovered by the authorities in Capas, Tarlac.

00:06But instead of burning the smuggled cigarettes, it was sold at a cheap price.

00:21Instead of destroying and burning the smuggled cigarettes that were confiscated by the Bureau of Customs,

00:28here in Capas, Tarlac, they were sold at a cheap price.

00:35In a remote area of Capas, Tarlac, a destruction plant of smuggled cigarettes was discovered.

00:42It contained dozens of cigarettes confiscated by the Bureau of Customs.

00:48But the National Bureau of Investigation, or NBI, discovered that instead of burning or dispatching the cigarettes,

00:53it was sold to the public at a cheaper price.

00:57So instead of destroying these cigarettes, it was sold to the public at a cheaper price.

01:04So the profit was doubled.

01:07That's what happened.

01:09This was confirmed by the NBI after they conducted surveillance.

01:12And the suspects took 17.5 million pesos in boodle money.

01:16The value of the cigarettes confiscated in this destruction plant was distributed at a retail price of 200 million pesos.

01:25And the government lost 150 million pesos in taxes.

01:30The two employees of the destruction plant, the supervisor and the environment consultant, were caught by the NBI.

01:37But the suspects insisted that they were just ordered by their boss.

01:50But you've been doing this for a long time.

01:56Based on the investigation of the NBI, the smuggled cigarettes were sold online.

02:01And they also have direct sellers.

02:03And it's possible that it reaches different provinces.

02:17The smuggled cigarettes are expected to be burned.

02:20The suspects are facing charges of smuggling in the RA 12022, or Anti-Smuggling Economic Sabotage Act.

02:27And they are also facing charges of smuggling in the Commerce Act.

02:31Angelique, if you can remember, just last week, the authorities confiscated kilos of smuggled rice in Bukawi, Bulacan.

02:40And after this, they also confiscated liters of smuggled diesel in Bataan.

02:46If you notice, Angelique, both of these incidents happened in Region 3.

02:50That's why the National Bureau of Investigation is investigating the next incidents that happened in the region.
