00:00How do you think it goes tonight?
00:01I remember, did the Avalanche win it like three years ago?
00:05I remember the first time watching McCar was,
00:07because I always, hockey playoffs,
00:10I will watch whoever it is
00:11because they're just so electric.
00:13And I remember the first time really watching McCar
00:15on the abs being like the speed that dude had
00:18for a defenseman was just mind blowing.
00:20Yeah, and together with Nathan McKinnon,
00:23and here we go on and on with the talent,
00:26but it's hard in any sport, regardless of sport,
00:31to beat a great team twice in what would this be?
00:35A six day span.
00:37Right.
00:37Canada, if you're gonna look back on history,
00:41Canada in past Olympic tournaments,
00:44I wanna say tonight's the seventh time
00:46at the senior level, best on best,
00:48that Canada and the US have squared off
00:50in a gold medal game per se.
00:52Canada has won four of them.
00:54The last two in particular at the Olympics in O2
00:59in Salt Lake City, which I was lucky enough to cover,
01:01and in 10 in Vancouver.
01:03It is hard to beat a great team twice in six days.
01:07Advantage Canada.
01:08McCar coming back.
01:10Advantage Canada.
01:12If you sit there and say,
01:14Hellebock is better than Bennington,
01:16I'm not gonna disagree with you in the gold,
01:19but Bennington won a Stanley Cup on this ice sheet
01:22in 2019 with the Blues.
01:24You get where I'm going here?
01:25I really think the USA is built and ready to do it
01:29and ready to take down a Canadian team at the highest level.
01:32Canada's won nine of 13 best on best all time.
01:36Five of the last six.
01:38I think it's time for USA,
01:40but it's gonna be hard for them to beat
01:42this Canadian team twice in less than a week.
01:45Yeah.
01:46I pick up what you're putting down, Joe B.
01:49Talking with our friend Joe Beninati,
01:51caps play by play.
01:52You can follow him at joebpxb.
01:55Joe joins us via the Rood guest hotline.

02:02What can the building do tonight?
02:05In Boston, we saw how outrageously loud
02:09and kind of nationalistic this thing was in Montreal.
02:13I'd expect these new Englanders
02:16to return the favor tonight.
02:18Yes, and especially with so many
02:20of their favorite sons in the lineup.
02:23I think immediately, if you're gonna put a spotlight on,
02:26maybe, you know, hey, watch out for someone.
02:28It's someone like Jack Eichel,
02:30who grew up in the Boston suburbs,
02:33who played collegiately at BU
02:36and was one of the finest at the amateur level.
02:39Now that he is a top flight pro
02:41and a Stanley Cup champion out with Vegas,
02:44it wouldn't surprise me if somebody like Jack Eichel
02:46turns the light on to create a big win
02:49for the United States tonight, it just wouldn't.
02:51There are so many New England guys in that lineup
02:54or guys who have played at least collegiately in that area.
02:58The fan base will be amazingly
03:00red, white, and blue supportive, absolutely.
03:03And from an energy standpoint,
03:06I've had a lot of athletes, JP and B. Mitch,
03:09tell me, regardless of sport, again,
03:11when they have the chance to put on their colors,
03:14when they have a chance to put on the red, white, and blue,
03:17they feel like a superhero.
03:19And if that doesn't pump you up, nothing else will.
03:24They almost take this superheroic approach to the game.
03:28And I think it's amazing.
03:30I was wondering how they were gonna play at what level.
03:34Was this gonna, this wasn't gonna be,
03:35I knew it wasn't gonna be a grip and grin,
03:38all-star kind of friendly no-hitter,
03:40but I didn't realize that they were gonna play
03:42at this level.
03:43And that brings in all the other injury concerns
03:46for the rest of the NHL season.
03:48I just cross my fingers and hope that nobody gets injured,
03:51that everybody's able to play moving forward.
03:53But when they get to this level,
03:55and I expect them to all be frothing at the mouth tonight,
03:58it's gonna be pretty good.
