00:10On the 38th anniversary of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, they were happy to announce the successful hatching of the 31st chick or egg in their hatchery.

00:20Let's get to know Chick No. 31.

00:22In this video, you will see the successful hatching of the newest hatchling in the P.E.F. or Philippine Eagle Foundation.

00:31Kapuso, meet Riley or Chick No. 31.

00:34Riley hatched on January 16, offspring of the eagle named Sinag and Dakila.

00:41Riley's arrival is very special for the P.E.F.

00:47Aside from the fact that the foundation celebrates its 38th anniversary,

00:50Riley's hatching is the first documented unassisted natural hatching in the country.

00:56If the chick hatched naturally, unassisted, that is very good for us because that indicates that it is a healthy chick.

01:07So how is Riley now?

01:13The Philippine Eagle or P.E.F. is the national bird of the Philippines in 1995.

01:19They are diurnal, meaning they are active in the morning and sleep at night.

01:23Even though they are one of the largest birds in the world, they can move and fly quickly.

01:27That's why they are also considered the best hunters in the jungle.

01:31But these are critically endangered, so that's how the P.E.F. will proceed to conserve and take care of our national birds.

01:38We have intensified our work in captive breeding to help the produced eagles from captive breeding.

01:46Our purpose is to release them back into the wild.

01:49In the field research, they will continue to survive.

01:53So how is Riley now, a month after hatching?

01:58Her health is good.

02:03And her weight is now 1.735 kg.

02:09Do you have any idea how the P.E.F. brings the little eagles closer when they are not used to humans?

02:20Did you know that when the P.E.F. staff approach the eagles, they wear hand puppets designed to look like the head of an adult eagle?

02:30This is done so that the eagles are not used to humans.

02:33Limited human contact helps the natural pairing of the P.E.F. staff with other eagles.
