00:00If you want to be mad at something about All-Star Weekend, don't be mad about All-Star Weekend.
00:05Be mad that they're going to double back with another All-Star Weekend now.
00:10Why are we not playing games until Friday?
00:15Most of them have already had three days off, right?
00:17Yeah.
00:1899% of the NBA's had three days off.
00:21Take a couple more days off, let's play some basketball again.
00:24No, no, Mark.
00:25We can't do that.
00:26I mean, we can't possibly do that.
00:28And I do know that, you know, of the, I guess it'd be 24 with some G-League players, maybe
00:3436, and the Dunkers, another four, and you know, Buddy Heald, and the three-point, good
00:41try, almost, 44 players, let's say, 44 of the, I don't know, 450?
00:47So 10% of the league partook in the weekend, and the other 90% need to have an extra five
00:54days off?
00:55Yeah, we all need that break.
00:57I would love to hear from everybody out there on what your reaction was to All-Star Weekend
01:04here in the Bay Area.
01:06And I mean this now, Dibs, because I think that whether it's listening to the crossover
01:12that we just did, if you consumed social media at all this weekend, it got real hot, it got
01:19real negative, it got real dismissive.
01:21I mean, I participated in it too.
01:23I don't know if you saw Kevin Durant's tweet, I don't want to read it word for word, but
01:26he basically was like, look, you all seem just like really pissed.
01:32So if this is how angry everybody's going to be at NBA All-Star Weekend, then yeah,
01:37let's just go relax on the beach and do nothing, because we're not here to tick you off.
01:43Like that's not what we're trying to do.
01:45And I think he's actually got, he's got a point.
01:48Like I am not, I did not find much of that entertaining, but I'm not going to come out
01:54of it like all livid, like, oh my God, what are you doing on my TV?
02:00Which is kind of the sound I think a lot of people are giving right now.
02:04I've just learned this, you're a parent, I'm a parent, every generation's different.
02:11If you see what other generations are doing, and they're doing it differently than your
02:15generation, you better work with that as opposed to against it.
02:19If you work against it, you're going to be mad all the time and you're going to lose.
02:23So all of us seem to be trying to find a way to make NBA players try.
02:31Let me be extremely clear with this above all else today, you ain't going to find it.
02:39You will not ever make NBA players try again.
02:46It's over.
02:47Right.
02:48So that doesn't mean though, let's wrap up All-Star Weekend and huck it in the ocean.
02:53You just have to work with it.
02:55You have to find different things to entertain people and NBA fans who are coming up.
03:02Because I'm telling you, and my house and other houses I'm aware of as evidence, people
03:07are still, they still look up to these players, they still want to see them perform.
03:12Just having them play a game isn't it, that they're not going to try.
03:16Okay.
03:17So then let's just huck up the All-Star break and throw it in the ocean.
03:21Why?
03:22Because...
03:23There's got to be something else that they can do.
03:24You know what there's something they could do?
03:25What?
03:26Is play actual basketball games and in those games maybe try.
03:30And even that, they don't do that.
03:32Of course they do.
03:33And they don't do that.
03:34They're exaggerating.
03:35You want to look at all of the NBA players and you want to look at all the games and
03:39all the load management.
03:40And so the product itself is not what it was in the past.
03:45Okay.
03:46And I get that.
03:47And what you just said is totally true about you can't make modern day players be like
03:51they were when I was a kid and whatever in the 80s and the 90s and the 00s and whatnot.
03:56That's fine.
03:57But let's not even bother with having a week off.
04:01Let's not even take a week off if we're not going to have an All-Star game or an All-Star
04:05weekend that is even somewhat productive.
04:09So we take a week off.
04:10We take a week off and we already have players who are taking multiple days off based on
04:16load management.
04:17And so we take a week off to highlight the best in our game.
04:21And that's what we do.
04:23That's the best in our game.
04:24No, but LeBron...
04:25No, I'm good.
04:26Steph, no, I don't want to shoot threes.
04:29A dunk contest won by a G leaguer.
04:31And the highlight of the weekend, like you said, is some bespeckled nobody hitting a
04:37three from half court.
04:38So let's work with that.
04:40Like why does it have to be all or nothing?
04:42It has to be something.
04:43Yes.
04:44But that's not what you're saying.
04:45No, what I'm saying is give me something and having that as the moment, like a 90 second
04:52thing.
04:53That's not the moment.
04:54Have you ever watched an 18 year old scroll through Tik Tok?
04:59The videos that they want to look at honestly often have absolutely nothing to do with celebrities
05:07doing what they're best at.
05:09Sometimes it's just a person.
05:11In fact, some of these people on Tik Tok literally become what we've now called influencers.
05:17You know who Mr. Beast is, right?
05:19I do now.
05:20Exactly.
05:21But I know I couldn't tell you much about what he does, but that's the point.
05:23Well, Mr. Beast is a guy who's now making about a hundred million a year, worth about
05:27a billion dollars.
05:28And there are millions of those all over YouTube.
05:30They're all over the place.
05:32There's a, I forget.
05:33I think his name is Colin Amazing.
05:34Have you ever heard of Colin Amazing?
05:36You have?
05:37I bet most of our listeners haven't.
05:39He's like seven years old and they create little competitions with kids' toys and his
05:44family is making millions per month on YouTube.
05:48So if this is what we're, if this is where we're heading and you realize you don't need
05:54to be Steph Curry and LeBron James playing a basketball game, you can just be Steph Curry
06:00and LeBron James or Dame Lillard and doing something out of the box with NBA fans that
06:06creates a fun competition.
06:08I mean all of these things, Dude Perfect.
06:10What is Dude Perfect?
06:11It's five guys who just create stupid competitions.
06:15Just throw a basketball from a plane and see if it can land in a loop down on the ground.
06:20And they love it.
06:22They love the content.
06:24So that's all I'm saying, man.
06:26There's, there's ways to make this entertaining without forcing these guys to play a basketball
06:30game that we all know damn well they're not going to play.
06:32I get it.
06:33But I, I would argue that these guys aren't going to like have a mini golf.
06:38Let's play nine holes, a mini golf.
06:40Dame did it this weekend.
06:41I don't think they'll show up.
06:42He did it.
06:43Yeah, Dame did it.
06:44LeBron didn't even bother to put on a uniform and he told you two hours before or an hour
06:49before because he was like not wanting to even go out there and do it.
06:54Plenty of other All-Stars.
06:55And Steph Curry didn't even want to go out there and shoot threes in his own gym.
06:59But he did a bunch of other stuff.
07:00Sure.
07:01He was out and about all weekend.
07:02I'm not, I'm not going to shy away from my disappointment in him not shooting the three-point
07:07contest.
07:08We had Buddy Heald go out there representing the home team and that's a shame and Buddy
07:13came close to actually winning it.
07:15Was it not the most Buddy Heald performance that you ever could have imagined?
07:18Exactly.
07:19It's like, oh yeah, Buddy.
07:20Oh no, Buddy.
07:21The whole, the whole sort of spectrum of Buddy Heald where you're like, oh, now you can make
07:29three-pointers.
07:30Exactly.
07:31For those of you who didn't see it, the first round Buddy Heald tied the all-time record
07:35for points in a three-point competition.
07:37He was fantastic.
07:39And then he went out there in the second half with what really was needed was a very winnable
07:44score.
07:45Yep.
07:46And he went out there and I think he missed his very, he missed his first eight shots
07:50in a row.
07:51Yep.
07:52And it was almost like...
07:53It felt like January.
07:54Well, that's what I mean.
07:55I'm like, ooh, the first round was November.
07:56Oh, now it's January.
07:57Yep.
07:58But then, of course, he gets to the last rack.
08:01He needs all five of them to win and he goes, swish, swish, swish, and you're like, oh my
08:07God, he's going to win.
08:08Clank.
08:10Oh, and he lost by one point.
08:11Yeah, buddy.
08:12You know.
08:13It was the most Buddy Heald experience.
08:15I was like, that's perfect.
08:16Now you all know Buddy Heald.
08:18Right.
08:19Buddy Heald.
08:20Yeah.
08:21We're talking about Buddy Heald.
08:22Yes, Buddy Heald.
08:23Right.
08:24So our highlights are Mack McClung, Buddy Heald, and some kid with glasses and a mullet.
08:30Dibs.
08:31I'm not...
08:32Are you getting my point?
08:33I've long got your point.
08:34I know you have.
08:35I listened to you and E from yesterday.
08:36I'm not disagreeing with it.
08:37And you guys were spot on.
08:38Yeah, there's nothing...
08:39There's very little endearing and engaging about this weekend.
08:43But my point is, is do you want to spend the next 364 days talking about how stupid the
08:50NBA is and how all of these players are jokes because they won't do this and that for millions?
08:57We can do that.
08:58And I don't think any of you...
08:59No, I'll spend three more hours talking about it and then it's done and dusted.
09:04And my takeaway is, bag it.
09:06Okay.
09:07Just bag the thing.
09:09I would rather...
09:10Just bag it.
09:11Let's find a new way to do it.
09:12Let's find...
09:13Let's find...
09:14Because there's something still there.
09:15You're not going to have the NBA not do All-Star Week.
09:19You're just not.
09:21There's millions of dollars at stake for cities, for organizations, for outlets, for businesses.
09:28You're not going to stop doing that.
09:30I think that there are ways...
09:33Money.
09:34Yeah.
09:35That makes everything go around.
09:36Why are you here today?
09:38I brought you to work.
09:39The joy of doing radio.
09:41Like you said yesterday on...
09:43You talked about on your show, your Sunday show.
09:45You wouldn't be here for free.
09:47Absolutely.
09:48As would you.
09:49You talked about it yesterday.
09:50Being real.
09:51With Ephraim.
09:52Yes.
09:53The joy of doing what you do.
09:54The joy.
09:55I wouldn't do it for...
09:56The entertainment.
09:57I wouldn't do it for free.
09:58I'm basically doing it for free.
09:59Don't make me show you my W2.
10:00Okay.
10:01All right.
10:02Come on.
10:03888-957-9570 is the number.
10:05We really want to hear your reactions to All-Star Weekend.
10:08Richie, Pat, we see you.
10:09We're coming to you in just a moment, but we got more room for you, your reactions to
10:13All-Star Weekend here in the Bay.
10:16We should absolutely utilize Fancy Pants Grandy and Lucas Alexander, the director of sports
10:21at 95.7 The Game, who apparently...
10:23You guys slept at Chase Center?
10:25Were you there all weekend long?
10:26Essentially, yeah.
10:27Essentially?
10:28As he yawns.
10:29Also, the old Oracle Arena on Saturday morning.
10:32Which by the way...
10:33That was really cool.
10:35A little something for Oracle and Oakland's involvement in this.
10:39That's fun.
10:40Steph said he cried.
10:41Yeah.
10:42What?
10:43Steph said he cried.
10:44He said he got very emotional walking in the building.
10:46Do we have video of the tears?
10:48I know James Harden cried.
10:50How cynical have you gotten?
10:52Have I gotten?
10:53Yes.
10:54How cynical have I been?
10:55Is there anything left over there?
10:57All right.
10:58Come on, man.
10:59Come on.
11:00Pull a little skin back for a second.
11:03Okay.
11:05Nothing.
11:06You know what?
11:07Nothing.
11:08Steph cried and hearing that makes me want to cry.
11:09Go to break so that I can have my own cry over Steph crying at Oracle.
11:14Nothing.
11:15You just want the NBA to go away.
11:16I just want to have a chance to weep during the commercial break, Mark.
11:20All right.
11:21All right.
11:22I'm going to pull my hood up for the YouTube audience because I'm about to lose it.
11:27Yeah.
11:28Man.
11:29Dripping with sincerity.
