00:00I love the sound, I love the feeling when you hit the ball.
00:11Hi guys and welcome to Golf News, Golf in the UAE.
00:14Today we're going to be meeting Jen Davidson who is a first time golfer, she's new to the game
00:20and she's going to tell us just how she got into the game and how it's a game for everybody.
00:25So tell us, how did you start getting into the game?
00:28I started my work in Topgolf, that was January 11, 2021.
00:34And from there I started holding the club, I just started how to know how to hit the ball
00:41and also as well they showed me how to do a proper form.
00:45But as well, because you are working, you're kind of like half-half way
00:50and it's not 100% in my mind to go straight away and golf.
00:56I love the sound, I love the feeling when you hit the ball.
00:59So when I hit the first ball, that's the time I know I love the golf.
01:04You began in January and that was where it all began.
01:08You hit that first ball, how did you get to where you are today in August?
01:12When I hit the first ball, I feel like, I feel amazing.
01:15And from there, my colleague Rued and Ray have showed me interest
01:21where it's like, I'm so lucky that I have this outlet of people to help me how to do the form.
01:30When you learn how to do your form, there is a chance.
01:35Or when you learn to do your form, then there you can be able to hit the ball in a proper way.
01:41However, I'm still bad at it.
01:43It was like three months after that I decided like, I think I need to practice.
01:48Then from there, my colleague as well are helping me, guiding me.
01:52And also, we are lucky enough that we have some pro are showing us the proper form.
01:59Whereas for me, for everyone who started golf, I recommend to get a proper lesson first from the pro.
02:07Every single golf player is different.
02:09That's correct, yeah.
02:11You know that being a female golfer is an entirely different stance and setup to being a male golfer.
02:19The key to getting the right guidance is letting them know what is best for you, not what's best for them.
02:27It's not like you assume you're watching.
02:29I know everybody now is watching YouTube and stuff like that.
02:32But at the end of the day, your height, your weight, I learned that not everybody have the same swing.
02:39Not everybody have the same club you hold.
02:41So it's good for me to advise to everyone who start in golf to probably, not probably, 100% go with the pro.
02:50Because they will show you how to do the proper way.
02:52And then from there, you can start progressing practice what you learned from the pro.
02:57Don't be intimidated with the golf.
03:00Yes.
03:01Because people think that...
03:02It's not about 18 holes and monster par 5s.
03:05It's all about small bits.
03:07Yeah.
03:08It all comes together.
03:09Yeah.
03:10Golf is for everyone, I believe.
03:11From the kid to the mother, father, it's for the family.
03:16I was so hesitant when I go to driving range.
03:18I was so intimidated.
03:19I thought everybody was like, we'll judge you.
03:23Because, you know, they are practicing.
03:26They're really good.
03:27So this is the stigma of the game that's not true.
03:29It's not true.
03:30Everybody is your friend.
03:31Everybody.
03:32And everybody is there to support each other.
03:34That's correct.
03:35So I start going to the driving range and I said, I think I need to step up.
03:41Not only on the side, but go there and see what things goes.
03:47When you're down there on the range, you say that you're visualizing a shot like you're playing the game.
03:52You're not actually pretending you're on the range anymore or you're in practice.
03:58You're still in game mode.
04:00Yeah.
04:01So three things I wanted to check with you was, one was, how do you set your mind for that?
04:06So regardless of whether you're on the chipping green, the practice green, out on the course, in a competition, or on the driving range, you still have the same focus.
04:15Before you hit the ball, you need to visualize and you need to aim your target.
04:22It's not about how far or how strong you're going to hit the ball.
04:27It's all about how accurate you are and you have a straight target or you have a straight hit.
04:37You hit it straight. It's not like go left and right.
04:40It doesn't matter how far the ball goes, you have to still play the next shot.
04:43That's correct.
04:44You've still got to be in the right area.
04:46In the right direction.
04:47What's next? Where are we going?
04:49I'm still a beginner.
04:50Seven months in golf, but three to four months to put myself there in a proper practice.
04:59So for now, I am focused on practicing for this next tournament.
05:04This is the tournament we're going to play with Dubai Creep, Jumeirah Golf Estate, and Emirates Golf Club.
