00:00There were a lot of wild theories out there about the best way to peel a hard-boiled egg.
00:05So we tried some and some were better than others.
00:08First we tried cracking two eggs together.
00:10That kind of worked.
00:12It peeled but it peeled into like a million bajillion pieces
00:15and it was kind of challenging then to clean up afterwards.
00:19I'd rate this one 8 out of 10.
00:22Then we tried cracking the egg and shoving a spoon up under
00:25between the shell and the egg to separate the shell
00:28and that one kind of worked but I kind of dented the egg with the edge of the spoon.
00:32I would give that one a 6 out of 10.
00:34Last and very least, we put the egg in a jar with some water and shook it up
00:40and that really didn't work.
00:43Not only did it not peel, we got some pieces of white that just like
00:47straight up stuck to the peels that came off and most of it was still stuck on the egg.
00:52So I would give that one a 1.5, let's be generous, out of 10.
00:58Also, the first time I tried this, I did it with an egg that was still warm
01:02and we ended up with eggpocalypse carnage.
01:06It was a disaster and it went straight in the trash.
01:10Now let me tell you about the way that it's tried and tested
01:13and the one that we stick to in the Delicious Test Kitchen.
01:16When you take the eggs out of your steamer, because I steam, not boil,
01:21you put them immediately into a bowl of ice cold water
01:25and you shock them there for five minutes.
01:28Shocking them in that cold water actually separates the membrane from the egg,
01:34making it much easier to peel.
01:36Once those five minutes have passed, just take an egg out of the water,
01:40tap it on the counter and slightly roll it around to break up the shell
01:44and then just peel, easy as that.
01:46Rolling the egg on the counter is great because it uses no extra equipment
01:49and it's kind of fun.
