We went out into Manchester to ask people about whether they have cut down on the pub, seeing the expense as more of a luxury than previously.

00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World today. I'm out in Manchester asking people about pubs and that's
00:04because with the rising cost of things like beer, alcohol in general, and sort of being able to go
00:09out and do things, pub has potentially become a bit more of luxury for people. So we want to know
00:14how often they manage to go and do they see it now as a luxury rather than something that they
00:18can do more casually? We tried to go to the pub in the day and it was last orders at 20 past eight.
00:22Yeah, they chucked us out, there wasn't enough people at 20 past eight. So we were there, we
00:27went to the supermarket instead. It's the guilt the next day as well, it's like you go to a pub
00:32that should be something that you can just pop in, you know traditionally you pop in, have one,
00:36have two, have three, whatever. Yeah. But now I think if you're going there it's a commitment
00:40and you have to go out and like everyone thinks that you've got to go and get drunk because
00:43otherwise it's so expensive. I can't drink a lot anyway so I've always been someone who has like
00:46two pints and goes home. Now they're shutting the like cheapest student bar in Fallowfield,
00:52Squirrels. I think next year is it that they're planning to which means that the
00:56prices are going to skyrocket for students as well because there's no one to keep it down.
