Transcript
00:00I always see you looking.
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the times when drag race queens put their comedic and improvisational skills to the test in challenges.
00:15For this list, we're only including American editions of the show. Spoilers ahead.
00:20I know the cameras can't see, but you want to see the crowds watching this. There's three million people here watching me today.
00:2710. The Season 9 Roast
00:29In Season 9, the queens get the honor and privilege of skewering longtime regular judge Michelle Visage.
00:35Michelle, we know you for being a kind, patient Shiro. And gonorrhea clinics know you as Patient Zero.
00:44Taking aim at everything from her music career to her age to her relationship with RuPaul, the queens come for blood and most of them manage to make Visage laugh.
00:52This challenge is full of well-timed, well-intentioned jabs. The episode's winner, Peppermint, is worth the price of admission alone.
00:59Not since Destiny's Child has a Michelle become so famous for riding somebody else's coattail.
01:06Sasha Velour and Valentina also knock it out of the park with their very distinctive and sometimes confusing brands of humor.
01:12Mama RuPaul, you are the shadiest queen because you let Michelle Visage look so busted on Season 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8.
01:25Yes, there were a couple of bombs, but even those are kind of funny in their own unique way.
01:29In honor of your big night, I wore your favorite color, girl.
01:359. The All-Stars 3 Improv Challenge
01:39Guest judge Jeffrey Boyer Chapman stopped by to give the queens a straight man to play off of in a Bachelor-inspired improv challenge.
01:45Can I tell you a little secret?
01:47Please, yes.
01:48I'm still a virgin.
01:50Oh, I have a special flower.
01:52Yeah, well maybe I can take a little sniff later.
01:54Each of the All-Stars 3 contestants gets a reality TV archetype to portray as they try to win his heart.
02:00Bendele's predatory cougar just wants to feed him.
02:03Are you looking for a woman that's clean or are you looking for a woman that's dirty?
02:08Remember, I already ate this once before.
02:12Trixie Mattel's character is a study in narcissism and insecurity.
02:16Kennedy Davenport's party girl is a mess on heels.
02:20We're gonna make a toast to love.
02:22Yes.
02:23And your nice ass.
02:24And then there's the whole subplot about RuPaul trying to steal the guest star for himself.
02:29It all comes together in a symphony of campy tomfoolery.
02:32Finally!
02:34Finally, this is my happily ever after.
02:40RuPaul waits until the top four to hold a roast on All-Stars 8.
02:43It turns out to be a great decision because in other seasons,
02:47there's usually a lot of bad sets to cringe through.
02:50Here, the focus is on the competition's best and brightest.
02:53Carson, you first entered our hearts on Queer Eye.
02:57Then you hosted How to Look Good Naked, which you don't.
03:00Alexis Michelle does a decent job opening the show,
03:03Candy Muse brings her usual cutting humor,
03:05and Jimbo revives her impeccable Joan Rivers impression.
03:09Now for the woman of the evening.
03:11Everybody, let's hear it for Ellen DeGeneres.
03:14But Jessica Wilde's insane reads on panelist and guest of honor Carson Kressley
03:19are some of the best ever heard on the show.
03:21Love you so much, Carson.
03:23I never wash any of your stuff, but as soon as I get out of here,
03:27I'm still not washing it.
03:29Kressley's former Queer Eye co-host and secret celebrity drag race contestant
03:33Tom Felicia closes out the show in drag,
03:35putting the period on the episode's wall-to-wall hilarity.
03:38When we were on Queer Eye, our theme song was
03:41all things just keep getting better.
03:43And when I look at your career, Carson, I just think, do they?
03:49You know it's a great snatch game when people still fight over who should have won it.
03:53Like my body?
03:54Yeah.
03:55Want some money?
03:58Mixing celebrity impressions with improvisation,
04:00the challenge usually separates the heavy hitters from the queens
04:03who are not long for the season.
04:05Season six is one of the rare snatch games
04:07that saw more successes than failures.
04:09Bendelecrem's saucy Maggie Smith wins the day,
04:12but she is far from the only contender.
04:14I did hear the term Twitter,
04:16and I assume that it's some sort of a songbird.
04:18Very close. Not a match.
04:20Am I to understand that one yanks one's telephone
04:23right out of the wall and carries it with him?
04:25Bianca Del Rio's shrill and enraged Judge Judy
04:28is endlessly quotable.
04:30Hey, your honor.
04:31Did you forget you were coming to court today dressed like that?
04:33You look like a damn roll of scotch tape.
04:35Well, I thought it was...
04:36Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.
04:38Adore Delano's spacey Anna Nicole Smith
04:40and Darian Lake's folksy body take on Paula Deen
04:43are also standouts.
04:45I'm sweating like two rats humping in a wool sock right now.
04:47Oh, dear.
04:48And Jocelyn Fox's Teresa Giudice
04:50will always make us think twice about how to pronounce cumin.
04:54It's flavored with blank.
04:56Cumin.
04:57Oh, you mean cumin.
04:58Cumin.
05:02When eight winners returned for a chance at another crown,
05:05we knew the stakes would be as high as the talent.
05:07The first time I met Ru,
05:09I asked her for an autograph.
05:11That handprint still remains on that cave wall today.
05:15So, when the queens were given free reign to roast each other,
05:18they took the opportunity and ran with it.
05:21Trinity, my goodness,
05:22is so kind and compassionate and caring.
05:24She even let her last boyfriend down easy.
05:26She said,
05:27let's just be cousins.
05:29Jinx Monsoon,
05:30Monet X Change
05:31and The Vivienne are hilarious.
05:33But we wouldn't expect anything less.
05:35Well, what an honor it is
05:36to be able to close this celebration
05:38of horrible, horrible men.
05:42It really is the who's who of who was available.
05:45The challenge also sees Trinity the Tuck
05:47overcoming a less than stellar track record with roasts.
05:50The first queen I would like to celebrate tonight
05:51is Jinx Monsoon.
05:53Jinx was such an ugly baby,
05:55her birth certificate came with an apology letter
05:57from a condom factory.
05:59Jada Essence Hall probably gives
06:01what is objectively the worst performance of the bunch
06:04and it's still adorably funny.
06:06Cutting but loving,
06:07the humor on display here
06:09makes for a great time all around.
06:11And the joke after that
06:12was that she's a hot mess,
06:13but baby,
06:14it won't land right now at this moment.
06:16That's all right.
06:18Number five,
06:19the All-Stars 2 snatch game.
06:21Fans waited a whole four years
06:23for a second All-Stars season
06:24and it was well worth it.
06:26Are you wearing makeup?
06:27Just a little chapstick.
06:29Were there some less than successful impersonations?
06:32Yes, there were.
06:33But the pros far outweigh the cons here.
06:36Alaska makes the raunchy Mae West
06:38even more crass.
06:39How's my little chickadee?
06:41When I'm good, I'm good.
06:42But when I'm bad,
06:43I get a serious venereal disease.
06:46Katya's Bjork takes the eccentric pop star's persona
06:48and sends it to another planet.
06:50I love your suit.
06:52It reminds me of the lining
06:54of my small intestine.
06:56The biggest surprise, though,
06:57is Alyssa Edwards.
06:58She missed the mark hard
07:00during her season five snatch game,
07:01but she comes back strong
07:03with a very intense Joan Crawford.
07:05She's reciting lines from Mommy Dearest,
07:07but it sends RuPaul
07:08into fits of wheezing laughter
07:10just the same.
07:11Wire hangers, Joan?
07:13No.
07:14Wire.
07:15Hangers.
07:16Ever!
07:17Number four,
07:18the first ever RuPaul roast.
07:20Season five's queens
07:21are tasked with roasting
07:22the fabulous host herself, RuPaul.
07:24These queens tackle the challenge so hard,
07:26it's almost like they've forgotten
07:28whose name is on that $100,000 check.
07:30RuPaul is so old
07:31that her colostomy bag
07:33is made of wood.
07:34Alaska opens the show
07:35with some hilarious jokes
07:36about Ru's age
07:37and illustrious career.
07:38Jinx Monsoon and Detox
07:40flame Ru
07:41and the entire judges' panel
07:42alongside her.
07:43Michelle's favorite movie
07:44in the world
07:45is Showgirls
07:46and much like Nomi Malone,
07:47she relies on the talents
07:48of her black friend.
07:49But the winner
07:50of the episode
07:51is Coco Montrese.
07:52So I'm flipping through the channel
07:53and I say,
07:54you see Ru?
07:55Ru on TV!
07:56She steals the night
07:57by coming out
07:58as Ru's fictional cousin
07:59and blasting the host
08:00for those workroom looks.
08:02RuPaul is in stitches
08:03the whole time.
08:04Girl,
08:05you look like
08:06the black peewee Herman.
08:11He is so hot.
08:12He look like
08:13he in New Orleans
08:14in Hurricane Katrina, girl.
08:15Number 3.
08:16The Season 6
08:17Stand-Up Challenge.
08:18The cast is shocked
08:19to learn
08:20that they'll be performing
08:21a stand-up set
08:22in front of an audience
08:23full of elderly people.
08:24Some of them
08:25handle it better
08:26than others.
08:27I am so excited
08:28to see the cast
08:29of Cocoon is here.
08:30Bianca Del Rio,
08:31a seasoned comedian,
08:32is a pro
08:33on that stage.
08:34Darian Lake
08:35serves up some
08:36self-deprecating humor
08:37with jokes about
08:38her upbringing
08:39and her weight
08:41At the gym,
08:42I'm like a ninja.
08:44You will never
08:45see me there.
08:46Trinity K. Bonet
08:47bounces back
08:48from a few weeks
08:49of lower placements
08:50with a routine
08:51worthy of its own special.
08:52The only way
08:53we had the opportunity
08:54to eat was
08:55my mother would read us
08:56recipes from a cookbook.
08:59And oh,
09:00how I got full
09:01many nights
09:02off of
09:03the roast beef
09:04on page 27.
09:05Here's the thing
09:06about this one.
09:07Even the flops
09:08are iconic.
09:09Laganja Estranja's jokes
09:11and lacking in
09:12any sense of timing
09:13or cleverness,
09:14but that's its
09:15own reward.
09:16Yo,
09:17I am just flying
09:18as high as your
09:19receding hairline,
09:20okay?
09:21Number two,
09:22the season 13 roast.
09:23It may be
09:24the Miss Congeniality roast,
09:25but things are
09:26far from nice.
09:27I know that drag race
09:28is the Olympics
09:29of drag.
09:30And baby,
09:31you're the stadium.
09:32Candy Muse
09:33and Olivia Lux
09:34come through
09:35with some genuinely
09:36hilarious jokes
09:37about RuPaul's age.
09:38Mama Ru is so old,
09:39she signed
09:40up for the
09:41Academy of Independence
09:42as parent
09:43slash guardian.
09:44Rosé and Gottmik
09:45go after her
09:46music career.
09:47I am such
09:48a huge fan
09:49of you
09:50and your work
09:51and all of your
09:52hit song.
09:53All in all,
09:54it's a phenomenal
09:55showing from
09:56most of the cast.
09:57In the midst
09:58of a stellar
09:59roast, though,
10:00Utica Queen
10:01goes for some
10:02pretty risky
10:03jokes.
10:04Some of them
10:05land, but only
10:06because the
10:07judging panel
10:08reads her right
10:09Before we unveil
10:10our top pick,

12:04All-Winners edition of Snatch Game is by far the funniest laugh-a-minute challenge in the
12:08entire franchise. Everyone stepped it up. There's not enough to say about Jinx Monsoon's
12:28transformative Judy Garland impersonation. Still, Trinity the Tuck's Leslie Jordan is
12:33a huge standout. Then there's Raja's ingenious mimicry of iconic puppet Madam and Vogue editor
12:45Dion of Reland. Everywhere you look, something utterly insane is happening. The whole thing
