00:00Officials of the Department of Agriculture and DTI will continue to visit the markets here in Metro Manila
00:07to find out if the maximum suggested retail price of imported rice will be met or not.
00:15This is Denis Osorio of PTV in Balitang Pambansa.
00:20The plan is to lower the maximum suggested retail price or MSRP per kilo of imported rice according to the Department of Agriculture
00:28After a week of implementation of MSRP for the sale of imported rice,
00:34the DA, Department of Trade and Industry and Manila City LGU conducted a price monitoring in Cartimar Market, Pasay City.
00:42According to DA Secretary Francis Tew Laurel, it is important to see if the rice is being followed by MSRP and if it is effective for buyers.
00:51The real plan is this. Now it is at 58. It looks like a lot of people are following it. Some are not.
00:59But by February 5, it will be 55. Then by February 15, we will lower it to 52.
01:06With the hope that by March 1, hopefully, we will break 50 and MSRP will be 49.
01:14As long as world prices remain as is today.
01:18Tew Laurel added that it is possible to implement the sale of rice for all in supermarkets and convenience stores in March 1, 2025
01:26after the rice for all will be discussed in other establishments.
01:31They will sort out the details and come up with a plan, a more concrete plan.
01:37Then there will be a third meeting with me on how this will be implemented.
01:43Hopefully, this will start by March 1.
01:49Meanwhile, new labeling rules will be issued by the DA to avoid overpricing.
01:54Special, premium and fancy items will be removed and it will be a requirement to include specific and complete details of the rice that is being sold.
02:05From PTV Manila, Denise Osorio for Balitang Pambansa.
