Even if you're not someone who dwells on movies for hours after you've seen them, you've probably developed a fan theory or two over the years.

00:00When it comes to popular movies, everyone's got theories.
00:03There's just something so gratifying about diving deep into the finest details of a film
00:08and coming up with a plausible connection others haven't yet seen.
00:11Even more exhilarating are those times when those theories are eventually confirmed by
00:15the people involved in a project.
00:17In the case of these cinematic conjectures, fans were able to figure out certain connections
00:21long before they were ultimately confirmed by those in the know.
00:25And as always, beware the spoilers.
00:28The Logan Prophecy
00:292013's The Wolverine might have seemed like just another installment of Logan's long history
00:34on the big screen.
00:36But as one fan on Twitter noticed, the film's clairvoyant character, Yukio, predicted Logan's
00:41ultimate fate.
00:42I saw you die.
00:43I see you on your back.
00:46There's blood everywhere.
00:48You're holding your own heart in your hand.
00:53At the end of Logan, of course, that's almost exactly what happened.
00:56A few years later, the character died in the movie Logan, while lying on his back and
01:00covered in blood, as was foretold.
01:03And while he wasn't holding his literal heart in his hand, he was clasping the hand of his
01:08cloned daughter, Laura, aka X-23.
01:11The connection was not a coincidence.
01:14Director James Mangold later praised the person who first drew the connection between the
01:18scenes and thus confirmed it was his intention all along.
01:21I would agree with your observation.
01:24Cars take over
01:26While most people wouldn't think too deeply about a Pixar movie starring talking automobiles,
01:30some adults, and maybe even some kids, left screenings of Cars with a disturbing thought.
01:35Where are the humans?
01:37After all, it's not like humans never inhabited the world of Cars.
01:41Proof of human existence is littered throughout the entire movie, from door handles to road
01:45signs and more.
01:46So what exactly happened to us?
01:49One fan theory proposed that the cars themselves eliminated humans.
01:53And as it turns out, that's actually what happened.
01:56According to Jay Ward, the creative director of the Cars universe, the anthropomorphic
02:00autos simply didn't need the dead weight.
02:03He said,
02:04"...imagine in the near future, when the cars keep getting smarter and smarter, and after
02:08one day they just go, why do we need human beings anymore?
02:11They're just slowing us down.
02:13It's just extra weight, let's get rid of them."
02:15But the car takes on the personality of the last person who drove it.
02:19There you go.
02:20Who knew a global robot domination story could be so kid-friendly?
02:24The Frozen-Tarzan connection
02:26When Frozen co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck took to Reddit for an Ask Us Anything,
02:31they blew everyone's minds when they revealed that, despite the film's opening montage,
02:36Anna and Elsa's parents didn't actually die at sea.
02:39Instead, Buck stated the protagonists' parents got washed up on a shore in a jungle island.
02:45The Queen gave birth to a baby boy.
02:47They built a treehouse.
02:48They get eaten by a leopard.
02:50That sounded a lot like what some fans had theorized about the backstory of the orphan
02:55Tarzan and how he might actually be the long-lost brother of Anna and Elsa.
03:00Buck later confirmed to MTV that fans were right on the money with their origin theory
03:04— at least when it comes to how the story plays out in his head.
03:07He explained,
03:08"...of course Anna and Elsa's parents didn't die.
03:11Yes, there was a shipwreck, but they were at sea a little bit longer than we think they
03:15were because the mother was pregnant, and she gave birth on the boat to a little boy.
03:20They get shipwrecked, and somehow they really washed way far away from the Scandinavian
03:26waters and they end up in the jungle.
03:28They end up building a treehouse, and a leopard kills them, so the baby boy is raised by gorillas."
03:34So in my little head, Anna and Elsa's brother is Tarzan.
03:38It's too bad Tarzan didn't inherit his sister's gift for whipping up ice sculptures to help
03:43his jungle pals beat the heat.
03:44But at least the director didn't come out and tell fans to let it go and stick to the
03:49elephant's wild theory.
03:50You know, I've been thinking lately that maybe Tarzan could be some sub-species of elephant.
03:55What are you, crazy?
03:57An elephant?
03:58The genie peddler
03:59Another Disney animation theory that's gotten the official thumbs-up is that the genie from
04:03Aladdin appeared in the film long before the street rat ever rubbed that magic lamp.
04:09Fans noticed the peculiar behaviors of the peddler who introduced the movie and figured
04:13out that he and the genie were the same guy, now free from the confines of the lamp.
04:17"...do not be fooled by his commonplace appearance.
04:20Like so many things, it is not what is outside, but what is inside that counts."
04:25Director Ron Clements later admitted the theory was true, and said,
04:28"...that was the whole intention, originally.
04:31We even had that at the end of the movie, where he would reveal himself to be the genie.
04:35And of course, Robin Williams did the voice of the peddler.
04:38But through story changes and some editing, we lost the reveal at the end."
04:42So that's an urban legend that actually is true.
04:44"...look at me from the side.
04:45Do I look different to you?"
04:47Spider-Man's true MCU debut
04:49There's been a long-running theory amongst fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that
04:53Peter Parker showed up even earlier than Captain America Civil War.
04:57As the story goes, the little kid who dressed like Iron Man and mean-mugged a robot at the
05:01Stark Expo in Iron Man 2 is actually a young Peter Parker.
05:05Spider-Man 2 was released in 2010, after all, and everyone's favorite neighborhood
05:09web-slinger was still in his mid-teens in 2017's Spider-Man Homecoming.
05:14Furthermore, the aforementioned Stark Expo takes place in Parker's hometown of Queens.
05:19Tom Holland himself has now confirmed this idea as MCU official.
05:23"...da da."
05:24The actor who plays Spidey told Huffington Post,
05:27"...it is Peter Parker.
05:28I can confirm that as of today.
05:30I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago.
05:34Maybe I've just done a big ol' spoiler, but it's out there now.
05:37It's cool.
05:38I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning."
05:41"...sup guys?
05:42Wait a minute.
05:43You guys aren't the real Avengers.
05:48I can tell Hulk gives it away."
05:49Stan Lee is a watcher
05:52Anyone who regularly watches Marvel movies is undoubtedly accustomed to the regular Stan
05:56Lee cameos.
05:58The comic book legend has made an appearance in almost every Marvel movie ever made.
06:02"...look at Mr. Smiles over here."
06:05Lee's cameos have always been written off as merely nods to Marvel's main man, but some
06:08fans suspected he might be one of the Watchers, a race of aliens who observe and compile information
06:15on everything the universe has to offer, while refraining from interference.
06:19Lee himself denied the theory at first,
06:21"...no, I'm afraid I don't have any super power and I'm not extraterrestrial.
06:26Oh, I'll admit, I'm a wonderful human being."
06:29But Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn decided to have a little fun and
06:34make the theory legit.
06:35In the 2017 film, Gunn added a post-credits scene in which Lee regals the Watchers with
06:41stories of his adventures.
06:42"...how will I get out of here?
06:44Hey, aw gee, I've got so many more stories to tell.
06:49Aw guys, oh gee."
06:52The director then told Radio Times,
06:54"...there's a lot of cool stuff that the fans come up with.
06:57A lot of stuff I don't agree with.
06:58But I find the idea that Stan Lee is a watcher, or that he works for the Watchers, is just
07:03a fun little nod to the fans."
07:05Thanks to those fan suggestions, Stan Lee's stellar role in the MCU is now official.
07:10"...you know, I guess one person can make a difference.
07:17Enough said."
