00:56Hello and welcome to From the South, Omar Marrero from the TELESUR headquarters in Caracas,
01:00Venezuela.
01:01Now we will be with the news, stay with us.
01:15The newly U.S. President Donald Trump brought his anti-immigration campaign to fraction
01:20as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already arrested over 415 immigrants on
01:27the grounds of their illegal status.
01:31In just 33 hours, civil organizations and national media have registered 416 immigration
01:38detentions.
01:39The immigrants are citizens from Afghanistan, Angola, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador,
01:46Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Senegal, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, among others.
01:51Immigration authorities claim that some detainees have a police record.
01:55Meanwhile, the Pentagon is preparing military contingents for the U.S. border, which media
02:01outlets estimate such developments could reach 10,000 troops.
02:10Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Pesko assured on Thursday that the threat
02:15of the U.S. President Donald Trump to impose new sanctions did not catch his government
02:20by surprise.
02:21The diplomat described Trump's first presidential turn back in 2016 as the one resorting the
02:27most to sanctions.
02:29Pesko ensured that Russian authorities have kept post about the statements to move over
02:35all the nonsense.
02:38In addition, their spokespersons reaffirmed that Moscow takes the path of dialogue based
02:43on respect and equity, so it awaits signals to reactivate contacts with Washington.
02:49Lately, the White House enacted a Kremlin on border sanctions if the Russian Federation
02:55does not reach a peace agreement with Ukraine.
03:05Elena Salgado Pineda, governor of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, said on Wednesday
03:11that she was working on a comprehensive program designed by the state's main authorities to
03:16receive migrant support from the U.S.
03:19She also explained that she had met with various authorities to develop a policy of support
03:24for the citizens of these states who live in other countries, reassuring them that they
03:30are not alone and that when they return to their homeland, they will be welcomed as they
03:35deserve and will be embraced in all aspects.
03:39She also pointed out that she was in contact with immigration authorities and migrant organizations
03:47in cities such as Chicago and Los Angeles to channel the arrival of their nationals.
03:58In Mexico, a young puppet known as Little Amal, that became a symbol of refugee children,
04:03will exhibit part of her journey through Latin America in a photographic exhibition at the
04:08Open Gallery of Chapultepec Forest.
04:11Our correspondent Antonio Aranda gave us the details of the following report.
04:19The condition of migrant or refugee is not a crime, but a human circumstance, is one
04:24of the messages of Little Amal, the three-and-a-half-meter-high puppet that represents a Syrian refugee girl.
04:31Amal's strength is that she is very visible because she is such a tall puppet, but she
04:37is a child.
04:38So she brings a message of peace that is like saying, I didn't do anything to find myself
04:43in this situation.
04:44I am in a situation of separation from my parents.
04:47I am in a situation of having come out of a war.
04:49I am looking for peace and I am looking to build my life and I am looking for a safe
04:53environment.
04:54That is the message of Amal.
04:59The exhibition The Journey of Little Amal Through Mexico shows her journey through seven
05:04cities in the country where she brought a testimony of the defense of human rights,
05:08especially those of children.
05:12I believe that today more than ever there needs to be possibilities of response, of
05:16protection, of integration, and of offering people the opportunity to rebuild their lives
05:20if they cannot stay in their countries of origin.
05:25UN data indicate that in recent years, Mexico has been among the countries with the highest
05:32number of asylum requests for refugees, and the government's policy is to offer them dignified
05:38places to stay.
05:43We have designed a strategy that will allow us to ensure that people coming from other
05:47countries to the city do not have to be on the streets of the city as they are today.
05:57The pass of little Amal through our country seeks to generate solidarity and compassion
06:03towards those who have had to leave their places of origin.
06:09The fact that Amal was able to be here in Mexico helped to raise awareness about this
06:13migration issue, and the fact that through a figure like a nine-year-old girl, the vulnerability
06:22she represents and how she was received in Mexico has been great.
06:31Data from the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, indicate that there are 123 million forcibly displaced
06:37people in the world.

07:07Welcome back to From the South.
07:18Colombia's Interior Minister Juan Fernando Cristo announced that they will go on the
07:23offensive against the National Liberation Army, ILNN, given the extreme situation in
07:28northeast of the country.
07:30The head of the National Security announced the measure after President Gustavo Petro
07:34confirmed on Monday that he will declare a state of internal commotion for the first
07:39time in 16 years.
07:41The violence exercised by the ILNN against former social leaders and peace signatories
07:46in Catatumbo has already caused more than 38,000 displaced persons, refugees and nearly
07:5280 fatalities.
07:53In this scenario, the minister informed that under the protection of all constitutional
07:58and legal instruments, they will proceed with the following steps.
08:09The Venezuelan state announced the reactivation of the 13 productive engines of the country
08:14with the objectives of advancing in the Seventh Transformation Plan.
08:18One of these engines is the socialist and solidarity-based communal economy.
08:24With the details, our correspondent Daisy Toussaint.
08:30The Communal Panal is a historical organization of the 23 de in narrow neighborhood in the
08:35Venezuelan capital, pioneers in popular participation projects.
08:42We would have to see how it was planned at the beginning, that each commune would have
08:45socio-productive organizations according to their knowledge in sewing, fishing, agriculture,
08:50at least in Caracas.
08:52I will give you an example from Caracas.
08:54We are serving 466 communes in Caracas.
08:58Those communes in turn have socio-productive organizations of textile confection.
09:02We are talking about more than 1,600 producers who at the same time produce more than 467,000
09:11products in school uniforms, jackets and school clothes.
09:14This economy strengthens the communal economy which develops what would be the communal
09:18bank and at the same time it advances towards the communal state.
09:27The socialist textile factory Las Abajidas del Panal has been operating here for 13 years.
09:32It is an organization that follows the guidelines of the commune and provides work and knowledge
09:37to the population.
09:40My grandmother is a seamstress and she used to teach me a little bit, but I learned here
09:44and now I myself taught her, look grandma, this is how it is.
09:48The good thing here is that we leave at 12 o'clock.
09:50We go to lunch until 2.30 p.m.
09:52I have my children studying here, I go to pick them up, I have them here for a while,
09:55I go home for a while and then I come back here and leave at 5.30 p.m.
10:05We started with six machines.
10:06I was not going to work here, I came to bring my daughter, and I liked working so much,
10:11and I liked the workshop so much that since I already knew how to sew, I stayed working
10:16until now.
10:17I have been here for 13 years.
10:24This is a project of popular power proposed by Commander Hugo Chavez to overcome the classic
10:28model of the state.
10:34Before the presence of Commander Chavez, the productive forces, be it bakery, sewing, breeding,
10:39fishing, were in the hands of private companies.
10:42And when they went into the hands of private companies, it was the private company that
10:49enjoyed the benefits.
10:54At this moment, we are seeing that this economic resource is in the hands of the producers,
10:58which is the people.
11:06During the meeting with the Economic Council, the President of Venezuela announced that
11:09they will remain in permanent session to reorder, re-drive, and promote the country's
11:14new economic and productive agenda.
11:23Venezuela is not a colony of the World Bank, nor of the International Monetary Fund, nor
11:28of anyone else.
11:33Venezuela is building its own model of economic, political, and social independence of equality.
11:44During 2024, manufacturing increased by 4.6%.
11:48The Venezuelan head of state summarized the transformation of the economic model, explaining
11:52that the Bolivarian economic agenda was simplified to 13 engines and the defense of national
11:58savings was launched.
12:07The Carabas National Assembly on Wednesday unanimously approved the reform of the constitution
12:12chapter on the economy and public finance in order to boost the country's productive
12:17and commercial activity.
12:19The parliamentary work is part of the process of partial reform of the constitution with
12:25this resolution.
12:26For example, the creative economy is evaluated to elevate my part in policy as a part of
12:33sustainable development in Nicaragua.
12:35The approved bill also affirmed, among other things, the inalienable rights of families
12:41to access medicines, school supplies, drinkable water, public transport, and other essential
12:47services.
12:48Colombian President Gustavo Petro visited Haiti on January 22nd to strengthen bilateral
13:01relations and address present challenges faced by both nations.
13:06During his meeting with the president of Haiti's presidential transition council, Leslie Boutaille,
13:13the leader discussed crucial areas of cooperation, including security, trade, and environmental
13:21activities, all while focusing on stabilizing Haiti's escalating criminal groups' violence.
13:28In this context, Petro also expressed his concern over the situation of the detained
13:32former Colombian soldiers linked to the assassination of former Haitian President Jovenel Moise
13:38in 2021, and formally apologized to the Haitian people.
13:47Thank you, Haitian people.
13:49I ask your forgiveness because some white Colombians came here to kill the president
13:55of Haiti.
14:01In the name of all the Colombian people, I say to you that we do not believe in the death
14:06spread by these Colombians.
14:08We believe in life.
14:10Colombia is the heart of life in the world.

14:58Welcome back.
14:59Ecuador is going through an electoral campaign for the elections in February, in which more
15:04than 13 million Ecuadorians will elect their president.
15:09Citizens maintain that these are not just another election, but that the model of the
15:13country they want to rule is as tight.
15:17The reporter with Elena Rodriguez.
15:22Sixteen candidates are running for the presidency of Ecuador.
15:26Experts consider that in ideological terms, two groups are clearly defined.
15:33Clearly, the extreme right is more predominant.
15:35If we divide, and the debate helps us a lot.
15:38The first bloc fought over who was more right-wing, who privatized more things.
15:43Then libertarian figures emerge with whom we must be very careful, very careful because
15:50they start to use freedom, but there is no freedom without equality.
15:53And what they want is freedom of enterprise, freedom to precarize, freedom to exploit the
15:58environment.
16:03Some Ecuadorian candidates, with their proposals, seek to emulate the president of El Salvador,
16:09Nayib Bukele, or the ultra-right Argentinian Javier Mille.
16:13It is in this political spectrum where the current president and candidate for re-election,
16:17Daniel Noboa, is located.
16:22The ultra-rightists that are being formed and the right-wingers all have a primary export
16:25base, based on the idea that mining is going to get us out of somewhere, total market liberalization,
16:30privatization, more monetary funds.
16:34And on the other hand, how we control the population, iron fist militarization, creation
16:38of false positives, and a whole narrative that favors us to believe that the only way
16:42we can exist in this world is if we directly eliminate the person next to us who does not
16:47look like me, who does not think like me.
16:55And in this scenario where, on the other side, leftist options emerge, such as the candidates
16:59Luisa González of the Citizen Revolution and Leonidas Azah of Pakatukic, placed, according
17:05to several pollsters, in first and third place, respectively.
17:11The words most used in the government plan of Luisa González are justice and rights.
17:16If we go to another plan, for example, that of Leonidas Azah, the most used word is rights.
17:21And we can see that the very notion of formulating the concerns within the government plan shows
17:24what it is aiming at.
17:29If no two candidates reach more than 40 percent of the valid votes, with a difference of 10
17:34percentage points over the second place, there will be a runoff.
17:38Therefore, the challenge for the left, according to this analyst, will be to achieve the union.
17:44With that programmatic unity and that roadmap, any of the people of the left and progressivism
17:49that passes to the second round should carry it forward as a possibility of response to
17:53the other issues that this country is requiring and that requires that maturity, precisely
17:57because if there is something that is diminished among us, it's trust.
18:04Ecuador is facing a multidimensional crisis, with a wave of insecurity, with around 40
18:09violent deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.
18:12This figure has led the country to be considered the most violent in the region.
18:16Imagenes de Henry Pillajo, Elena RodrÃguez, Telesur, Ecuador.
18:37And now, moving on, Palestinian rescue teams have recovered at least 170 bodies in the
18:44southern Gaza Strip.
18:45In the south, this is five.
18:47On Thursday, rescue teams recovered at least nine bodies of Palestinians killed in the
18:51town of Bani Rezouhala, east of Qunyounis.
18:56According to the Palestinian authorities, more than 14-thousand people might be buried
19:00under the structures destroyed by the conflict in the region.
19:04It is estimated that 70 percent of the victims are women and minors.
19:15The Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Thursday condemned the violence and its attacks
19:24in the West Bank, specifically in the Jenin Refugee Camp, where 12 Palestinians were killed.
19:29In addition to the deaths, there are thousands of injured.
19:32The occupying forces have also set up checkpoints and iron gates to cut off towns and villages
19:38in the area.
19:39They also gave an account of the gravity of the crimes committed daily by the shooters
19:44and now partnered by President Donald Trump against thousands of Palestinians backed by
19:51the genocidal troops.
20:01In Lebanon, approximately 1.6 million people face severe levels of food insecurity due
20:07to the recent military aggressions by the Israeli regime.
20:11According to a report by the World Food Program, about 201,000 people are in an emergency situation
20:18at risk of acne malnutrition.
20:20In addition, Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon are also being severely affected
20:26with more than 680,000 at risk of food insecurity.
20:31The Israeli aggression has worsened a Brexit and economic crisis in the country, which
20:37is still struggling to recover after this fire reached in November 2024.
20:42The conflict has devastated key sectors, such as agriculture, damaging land, infrastructure
20:46and livelihoods, further aggravating the food situation.
20:50In Sudan, more than a million people have fled to South Sudan because of the conflict
21:02and humanitarian crisis.
21:03Tens of thousands of people have been killed and more than 12 million forced to flee since
21:07the war broke out between the army and the rapid support forces in April 2023.
21:12The UN reported more than 770,000 people have fled through the Gouda border crossing
21:20in one month, while tens of thousands have crossed into South Sudan through other locations,
21:28bringing the total to more than 1 million.
21:39New cases of cholera have been reported in Angola's Ombahabu province, bringing the number
21:47of people infected to 671.
21:50According to the Angolan Ministry of Health, the provinces of Iqolod, Bengouda and Balanja
21:57and Luanda have also recorded cases.
22:01The capital Luanda has the highest number of confirmed cholera cases, with 484 around
22:08the world.
22:09The health authorities said they have taken steps since January 18 to procure the vaccine
22:16for the population, giving priority to children.
