Transcript
00:00Adobe just dropped some major news about their upcoming Firefly video model, and this is
00:07going to change the way video editing works.
00:09It's not just a slight upgrade or another cool feature.
00:12This is something big, something that's about to shift the entire editing landscape.
00:17For those who've been following Adobe's recent moves, you'll remember how back in
00:21March 2023, they launched Firefly, their set of generative AI models.
00:27Since then, Firefly has been a huge hit in the creative space, and it's made a serious
00:31impact on how designers and creators work.
00:33In fact, Firefly has already powered a lot of the tools we use in Adobe Creative Cloud
00:37and Adobe Express, like generative fill in Photoshop, generative remove in Lightroom,
00:43generative shape, fill in Illustrator, and text to template in Adobe Express.
00:48It's been a real game changer, and here's a crazy stat for you.
00:51Over 12 billion images and vectors have been created with Firefly globally.
00:55That makes it one of the fastest adopted techs in Adobe's history, which, let's be
00:59real, is pretty impressive.
01:01But now, Adobe's moving into the world of video with Firefly, and the timing couldn't
01:06be better.
01:07These days, video is everything.
01:09It's how people engage.
01:10With platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts just blowing up, everyone's
01:15hungry for more video content, and they want it fast.
01:18So as editors and content creators, we're getting asked to produce more, often with
01:22tighter deadlines.
01:23We're talking about doing it all, editing, color correction, animation, VFX, sound design,
01:29and doing it fast.
01:30It's a lot.
01:31And that's exactly why Adobe's new Firefly video model is such a big deal.
01:35It's not just adding new tools to your workflow, it's about opening up possibilities, letting
01:40you move faster, and helping you stay creative under pressure.
01:44So here's the cool part.
01:46Firefly's got some incredible new features coming, and one of the most mind-blowing is
01:50this text-to-video capability.
01:52That's pretty much what it sounds like.
01:54You can use text prompts to generate full video content, and on top of that, you'll
01:58have access to camera controls, things like angle, motion, zoom, so you can tweak the
02:03video exactly how you want.
02:06Let's say you need a cinematic close-up of a reindeer in a snowy forest, maybe at sunset,
02:11and you want the lighting to look super dramatic.
02:13Firefly's gonna whip that up in under two minutes.
02:17And here's another feature I'm really excited about, image-to-video.
02:20This lets you take any still shot or illustration and turn it into a live-action clip.
02:25It's perfect for when you've got killer stills or illustrations, but want to add motion and
02:29depth to them without needing advanced animation skills.
02:32Now for those of you working in Premiere Pro, this next feature is going to be a real lifesaver.
02:37Adobe's introducing Generative Extend.
02:39Basically, it allows you to extend clips to cover gaps in footage, smooth out transitions,
02:44or just hold on to a shot longer for better pacing.
02:48We've all had those moments when you're editing a video and realize you need just a few more
02:52seconds to match the beat of a song or to nail the flow of your edit.
02:57Usually that would mean reshooting or trying some awkward workaround, but with Generative
03:01Extend, you can generate extra frames seamlessly.
03:04Let's say you've got a dramatic scene and the music builds up longer than your footage.
03:09Instead of cutting it short or looping the same clip, you just use Generative Extend
03:13to add the extra frames you need and the shot still looks natural.
03:16No weird, awkward cuts.
03:25And Adobe's been really thoughtful about the ethics behind it.
03:28The Firefly video model is commercially safe, meaning it's only trained on content Adobe
03:33has permission to use.
03:35It's never using customer content or anything copyrighted without consent.
03:40So when you create with Firefly, you're not stepping on anyone's toes legally.
03:45You're not going to run into issues down the line because everything it's trained on
03:49is fair game.
03:50All right, now let's get into some practical examples because this is where it gets really
03:54interesting.
03:55One of the areas where Firefly excels is in generating videos of the natural world.
04:01Say you're working on a project and you realize you need an establishing shot of a snowy forest
04:06at sunset, but you didn't get that shot during production.
04:09Instead of scrambling to find stock footage or worse, having to go back out and shoot
04:12it yourself, you can simply generate it with Firefly.
04:16You could type something like, drone shot going between the trees of a snowy forest
04:20at sunset golden hour.
04:22The lighting is cinematic and gorgeous and soft and sun-kissed with golden backlight
04:27and dreamy bokeh and lens flares.
04:29The color grade is cinematic and magical.
04:32And just like that, within minutes, the model hands you a high quality video clip that fits
04:36right into your project.
04:38If you're working on a scene and need atmospheric elements like fire, smoke, dust, or water
04:43effects, the AI can help you create those from scratch.
04:46You can generate the elements you need and then easily layer them onto your footage using
04:50tools like Premiere Pro or After Effects.
04:53For example, if you need realistic flames in a particular shot, you can create a flame
04:58overlay and then place it directly into your scene.
05:01And if you're into animation, you can ideate and create 2D or 3D animations, including
05:06stop motion or claymation style clips, without having to be a professional animator.
05:12Now another area where Firefly really shines is in custom text effects.
05:16If you need a specific effect like water splashing and freezing into the shape of a word, you
05:21can just describe it to the AI and it will generate the effect for you.
05:26And the camera controls, angle, motion, zoom, you name it.
05:29The level of detail you can get from Firefly is mind-blowing.
05:33Let's say you want a dramatic slow-motion volcanic scene with lava spewing out and splashing
05:38onto the camera lens.
05:40The model will deliver that kind of intensity with all the rich camera motion and lighting
05:43you need.
05:44Now, collaboration is always a huge part of any creative process, and sharing your vision
05:49with a team can be tricky.
05:51Adobe's already got tools like Frame.io to streamline collaboration, but with Firefly,
05:56you can quickly generate visuals or animations to communicate your ideas faster.
06:01So basically, just generate it, share it, and get feedback.
06:05It's faster, it's easier, and it keeps everyone on the same page.
06:09Let's go back to Generative Extend for a second because it's so powerful.
06:12If you're editing a scene and need a bit more footage to match the pacing, traditionally
06:16you'd have to either slow down the footage, loop part of it, or cut it awkwardly.
06:21With Generative Extend, you can add extra frames seamlessly.
06:25The AI studies your existing footage and generates new frames that fit perfectly, extending your
06:29shot without breaking the flow.
06:32In addition to extending clips, Generative Extend also allows editors to create smoother
06:36transitions between scenes.
06:38When two clips don't match in length or pacing, the AI can generate frames to bridge
06:43the gap, resulting in a seamless transition without abrupt cuts.
06:47Technically, Firefly's Generative Extend works by analyzing motion vectors, lighting,
06:52and textures to predict and create new frames that blend naturally with the original footage.
06:57This ensures the added frames maintain the same look and feel as the rest of the video.
07:02This feature saves time and resources, as it eliminates the need for reshoots or stock
07:07footage, making it especially valuable for projects with tight budgets or deadlines.
07:12It looks like Adobe's been working closely with the creative community, listening to
07:16feedback from video editors and creators to make sure this model really addresses our
07:20needs.
07:21They've put in a lot of work to make sure that Firefly is going to streamline workflows
07:24and make life easier for us.
07:27And again, they've made sure that all the AI models are ethically trained.
07:31Everything is commercially safe, and Firefly is only trained on content Adobe has permission
07:36to use.
07:37Your content is your own.
07:38All of these features are expected to roll out later this year in beta, and if you want
07:43to get early access, you can join the waitlist.

07:57What's clear is that the Firefly video model is going to revolutionize the way we edit
08:02video.
08:03It's not just about speeding up workflows, though that's a huge benefit, it's about
08:07pushing creative boundaries.
08:09With tools like these, we're no longer limited by budget or time constraints.
08:13Adobe is committed to making this tool something that truly benefits the creative community,
08:18and I can't wait to see how we'll all start using it to create better, more engaging content.
08:23So if you're excited about the future of video editing and want to get in on this, definitely
