Instagram failed to remove toxic comments directed at Vice President Kamala Harris and other leading female politicians, according to research from the Center for Countering Digital Hate. The CCDH analyzed over half a million comments on Instagram posts from five Republican and five Democratic women politicians and found over 20,000 "toxic" comments, according to an AI tool. Upon manual review, they found nearly 1,000 comments clearly breaching Instagram policies, but Instagram took no action on 93%. The non-profit flagged the comments to Instagram but many "repeat offenders" kept posting abuse.
