00:00 This is not the news you wanted to hear.
00:03 The 49ers just gave starting right tackle Colton McKivitt a one year $7 million extension
00:09 through 2025, which means he's their starting right tackle for the next two seasons.
00:15 That's it.
00:16 Anyone of you who were hoping and wishing and praying that the Niners might look in
00:22 the mirror and change something and really invest and upgrade that offensive line.
00:26 Nope.
00:28 They're going to keep it exactly the same.
00:31 Why?
00:32 Because they don't value the offensive line other than the left tackle position.
00:36 They've made this abundantly clear for eight years.
00:40 Colton McKivitt is exactly what they want at right tackle.
00:43 A guy who can stay healthy and understand their system and play for way below market
00:54 value.
00:55 The right tackle in the NFL is making $17, $18, $19 million a year.
00:59 Mike McGlinchey makes that much.
01:01 And frankly, McKivitt is just as good as Mike McGlinchey, but he's not good.
01:07 He's not an asset.
01:08 No offense.
01:10 He's getting what he's making money wise is fair because he gave up 13 sacks last season.
01:17 And when it was time to run the ball, the Niners had all their success running to the
01:21 left, not to the right.
01:23 The runs that popped to the right were runs that started to the left and then cut back.
01:29 So he's not good at the point of attack in the run game.
01:33 He's not good at pass protection, but other than that, he's great.
01:36 And so why not extend him and keep...
01:39 I'm not trying to take a shot at Colton McKivitt at all.
01:43 Former fifth round pick.
01:44 Congratulations, Colton.
01:46 It's just the team I'm talking to.
01:48 Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch.
01:51 You got to get with the times and take this right tackle position a little more seriously.
01:55 It's a very important position.
01:58 And I think everyone was expecting, hoping that this year you would trade up in round
02:02 one for a starter at this position and you could have moved Colton McKivitt to guard.
02:08 But now it's looking like you're going to draft the defensive lineman in round one,
02:14 like you always do, which is too bad because you'd think after losing these Super Bowls,
02:21 you'd realize that offensive line is maybe more important than defensive line.
02:26 You guys keep pouring resources in that defensive line and then you complain after losing the
02:32 Super Bowl that you didn't get the holding calls you deserve.
02:35 Well, you know what?
02:36 Maybe you should pivot.
02:39 Get some offensive linemen who are allowed to hold too.
02:41 Maybe a right tackle.
02:43 Anyway, not going to happen.
02:44 Colton McKivitt's here to stay.
02:46 Congratulations.
02:47 See what the Niners do next.
