00:07 - I come from a family where we always thought
00:28 that all marine animals were good by nature.
00:31 So I never grew up in a family
00:31 where I was particularly afraid of sharks.
00:33 I never felt any fear like that.
00:35 I think I have a secret passion for the species
00:39 that people generally consider scary or dangerous.
00:43 And I think that each animal has a vital role in nature.
00:46 That's why we have to understand them.
00:48 (speaking in foreign language)
00:56 I think sharks are extremely misunderstood.
00:59 Sharks are perfect.
01:03 They're beautiful.
01:05 They're beautiful in shapes and in colors
01:08 and the way they move through the water.

01:17 (water gurgling)
01:19 Primarily I dive in the center of the same group of sharks.
01:36 I spend quite a lot of time underwater.
01:38 I call them my babies.
01:40 I'm very protective of them.
01:42 I recognize each and every one of them.
01:45 And so it's like a family.
01:48 (dramatic music)
01:52 Some hooks are small and they kind of affect the sharks
02:08 but not the mammals.
02:09 And it affects the big fish that are under
02:12 and it's not bad for sharks
02:13 to have fish of the same size like them.
02:15 And so as sharks react to them,
02:18 some stop eating because they can't harvest.
02:21 Some are handicapped by the line.
02:24 Some are breached,
02:26 some are slit or cut.
02:28 If I can help them, why not?

02:35 Foggy Eye is a wild one.
02:38 She's a very unique person.
02:41 When first she showed up at the place where I dive,
02:45 she was not a very big shark.
02:47 She would come in, she would eat,
02:48 and then she would swim away.
02:49 She didn't really like to be touched.
02:51 Some sharks, I hold my arm, I brush it with my hand,
02:55 and I see right on top of their head.
02:57 And so I see on their reactions.
02:58 Some of them swim and then some she would really
03:01 turn and go away.
03:02 And she was one of the sharks that said,
03:04 "Yeah, I'm gonna fix up."

03:10 She showed up and she had a wire on her mouth.
03:14 I couldn't see the hook, just the wire.
03:18 And so I started to lure her with food.
03:21 And she allowed me to touch her.
03:25 And so I started to fire a fire and I actually saw the hook.
