00:01:30Take it easy with your ammunition, Jeff. You might have to hold them off for a long time.
00:01:39Well, that's all we've been doing for the last three hours. I think we ought to think about getting out of here.
00:01:43Yeah. How are we going to do it? It's the only way out.
00:01:46And they know it. That's why they're all bunched out there in front.
00:01:49Take it easy, men. They can't hold out forever. Just keep them along and they'll run out of ammunition. Then we'll rush them.
00:02:19I wonder who tipped the sheriff off we were hiding out here.
00:02:27Somebody that wanted that reward money. You seem to forget, Billy, you've been accused of everything but Lincoln's assassination.
00:02:33Yeah, and if I was a little older, they'd probably hang that on me.
00:02:36Looks like they're going to wait till dark and then rush us.
00:02:43Let them rush. We've been in a worse place than this.
00:02:46And speaking about scrapes, I think I've scraped our way out of here.
00:02:53Fuzzy, you're either a genius or a gopher.
00:02:56What are you waiting for? Get our horses ready.
00:03:26Eat it, Jeff. I'll hold them off till you're in the clear.
00:03:56Get to the line, Cap.
00:04:24Looks like they're out of ammunition, boys. Let's rush them.
00:04:53All right, boys, how about a little coffee?
00:05:00Coffee?
00:05:01Yes, sir.
00:05:04And hot, too.
00:05:06Say, how do you do it?
00:05:08You don't think I'd leave good coffee behind just on account of a little shooting, do you?
00:05:13Sometimes I think Fuzzy really uses his head.
00:05:24Well, we got out of that one all right, Billy. What's next?
00:05:28Oh, let's bed down here tonight. I've had enough excitement for today.
00:05:33So have I. And in the morning, we'll dress. This part of the country's getting too hot for us.
00:05:39Hey, how about your uncle's ranch down in Little Bend Valley? Remember you were talking about?
00:05:44I almost forgot about that. He invited me to visit him.
00:05:48That'd be as good a place to hide out as any. The best.
00:05:52Oh, do you think he'd care if you brought us along? You know the way things are, Jeff.
00:05:56Say, I'm the only kin Uncle Jim's got left. Outside the law or not, he'll welcome us.
00:06:05Here's some more coffee, Fuzzy.
00:06:07Pour it yourself. You're not crippled.
00:06:09Oh, milk me, huh?
00:06:21What's your hurry, Miss Roberts?
00:06:23Why can't you leave me alone? I'm not bothering you.
00:06:25We've told you before that we don't want homesteaders around here.
00:06:29Now get down off of the wagon, and we're going to show you this time we mean business.
00:06:32I'm not a homesteader. I paid for my ranch, and I have as much right here as you have.
00:06:35Maybe. Get busy, Buck. All right, get down off of there.
00:06:53Please don't do that.
00:06:55Oh, shut up.
00:06:58Looks like that lady in trouble.
00:07:00Wait here, fellas.
00:07:19Looks like you gentlemen got the best of this argument.
00:07:21Well, what business is that of yours?
00:07:23None if I wasn't so one-sided.
00:07:25What's the trouble, miss?
00:07:27Well, if you must know, she's a nester.
00:07:29And this is cattle country, and we don't want our range plowed up.
00:07:33So you take it out on someone who can't fight back.
00:07:36Since when did the West start raising polecats like you to make war on women?
00:07:40Say, I don't like the way you talk, cowboy.
00:07:42And I don't like the way you act.
00:07:47All right, now get on those horses and get going.
00:07:56All right.
00:08:10Thank you so much, mister.
00:08:12My friends call me Billy.
00:08:16Oh, that's all right. These are friends of mine.
00:08:20What's all the ruckus about, Billy?
00:08:21Nothing much, Jeff.
00:08:23Jeff, I want you to meet Miss, uh...
00:08:24Ann.
00:08:25Howdy, ma'am.
00:08:26Miss Ann, this is Fuzzy.
00:08:29Hey, wait a minute.
00:08:31This girl is...
00:08:32Fuzzy's bashful, ma'am.
00:08:34I don't think those hombres will bother you again, miss,
00:08:36but if you want us to, we'll see you home.
00:08:37I'd be very grateful if you would.
00:08:39All right, fellas, let's get this stuff back in the wagon.
00:08:54Come on.
00:09:08We'll take care of this stuff for you, Miss Ann.
00:09:10Thank you so much.
00:09:13Hey, Fuzzy, give me a hand with this stuff, will you?
00:09:16Say, Billy...
00:09:20Did Miss Ann say her father bought this place from a man named Cobb Allen?
00:09:23Yeah, why?
00:09:25Well, something kind of funny.
00:09:26This is my Uncle Jim's place.
00:09:28Why?
00:09:29If he'd have sold out, I'd have sure heard about it.
00:09:32Well, that's sure gonna change our plans, Jeff.
00:09:35We'll find out where we land.
00:09:42Oh, would you boys mind putting the things in the kitchen?
00:09:44I'll take my father's away.
00:09:53Come on.
00:10:09You know, Jeff, your uncle might have made a deal with this fella, Allen.
00:10:12How long has it been since you heard from him?
00:10:14Just a couple of months ago.
00:10:15That's when he invited me to visit him.
00:10:17I'm telling you, Billy, I don't like the looks of this thing.
00:10:19I'm gonna... Wait a minute.
00:10:21Don't say anything to these folks until we find out what's happened.
00:10:26Come in.
00:10:27Oh, this is Fuzzy, one of the boys I was telling you about.
00:10:29I'm very glad to know you, Fuzzy.
00:10:31Pleased to meet you, Mr. Roberts.
00:10:33Fuzzy, the kitchen's right over there.
00:10:44You wouldn't have to bring it all, Fuzzy.
00:10:51Jeff.
00:10:57And father, this is Billy.
00:10:59How do you do, Mr. Roberts?
00:11:00I'm glad to know you, Billy.
00:11:02And this is Jeff.
00:11:03How do you do, sir?
00:11:04This is a pleasure.
00:11:20I don't know what to talk about.
00:11:21Oh, I'm sorry.
00:11:22I mean, would you like to have some coffee?
00:11:24I just made it special.
00:11:25I don't know.
00:11:26I...
00:11:27Oh, excuse me.
00:11:28I guess I'd better go now.
00:11:34When we came out west, Ann and I,
00:11:36we had a little chat with the boys.
00:11:38They said, you know,
00:11:39there's a lot of people out there,
00:11:41and they want to talk to you,
00:11:43and they want to talk to you,
00:11:45and they want to talk to you,
00:11:47and they want to talk to you,
00:11:49and they want to talk to you.
00:11:51And what did you say?
00:11:52Ann and I,
00:11:54Cobb Allen offered to sell us his ranch.
00:11:56We made a down payment
00:11:57of nearly all the cash we had.
00:11:59Mr. Allen said
00:12:00he'd been making money here for some time.
00:12:02Then he decided to retire from ranching
00:12:03to take care of his interest in town.
00:12:05That's why with a paying ranch
00:12:06we thought we'd have no trouble
00:12:08with making the rest of the payments.
00:12:10But it hasn't worked out that way.
00:12:12Did Allen say
00:12:13how long he'd been working the place?
00:12:15Many years from the way he talked.
00:12:18Oh, no, I'm sure I haven't, but then we've only lived here six, seven weeks.
00:12:22It seems I did hear of a Jim Branchard in town, that he'd disappeared or moved away.
00:12:27Anyhow, that he wasn't around anymore.
00:12:30Well, that's too bad.
00:12:32We were kind of hoping to visit with him a while before we moved on north.
00:12:37We'd sure like to know where he went.
00:12:38You see, it's kind of important.
00:12:40Do you know of any place around here where we could get room and board for a while?
00:12:43Boy, we'd be very glad to have you stay here with us.
00:12:46We haven't much, but you're more than welcome to it.
00:12:49Well, that's mighty nice of you, Mr. Roberts.
00:12:51Thanks.
00:12:52We'll spread our stuff out in the bunkhouse.
00:12:55It's time for Mr. Roberts' medicine, senorita.
00:12:58Oh, excuse, will you please?
00:13:00Come on, Dad.
00:13:11Say, Billy, there's something fishy about this Carl Dallin.
00:13:14Why should he say he's owned this ranch for a long time?
00:13:17I don't believe he ever owned it.
00:13:18Well, maybe you're right.
00:13:20The first thing we have to do is to find out what happened to your Uncle Jim.
00:13:29Say, we'd better duck, Billy.
00:13:30Now tell him who those fellows might be.
00:13:32I'll stay here and take a chance.
00:13:34I hope he don't recognize us.
00:13:53Come in.
00:13:54Oh, hello, Mr. Barlow.
00:13:55Asked for more water today?
00:13:56Yes, Miss Anne, if you don't mind.
00:13:58How's your father today?
00:13:59He's much better, thank you.
00:14:01Mr. Barlow, these boys are friends of ours.
00:14:03Say, help me.
00:14:03Ellen, come here quick, will you?
00:14:05Oh, yes, Father, excuse me, will you please?
00:14:12Who's that in there?
00:14:13Say, Barlow, that must came after more water again today.
00:14:17Mr. Roberts, why haven't you taken that medicine?
00:14:20Because it's bitter as gall.
00:14:31You say those men out there are trying to farm this land
00:14:33and they have to get their water here?
00:14:35That's right.
00:14:36It's mighty tough on all of us.
00:14:38Why, wasn't there a stream of water running through this property, Mr. Barlow?
00:14:41Seems like I remember one.
00:14:43Yes, there used to be, but not anymore, not since Allen clamped down on it.
00:14:47You see, it was this way.
00:14:49When Allen sold each of us our acreage, we thought the water went with the land.
00:14:52That's why we bought it.
00:14:53Most of us paid down all the cash we had,
00:14:55expecting to get a good crop the first year to pay off the balance.
00:14:59Then what happened?
00:15:00Well, Allen said we had to come through with an extra $1,000 apiece for a water right.
00:15:04None of us had the money, so...
00:15:06So he cut off the stream.
00:15:07Yes, he diverted it into another channel up in the canyon a short distance from here.
00:15:11There's nothing we can do about it, and he's got guards watching.
00:15:14Hello there, Dave. How's everything?
00:15:16Oh, hello, Tom.
00:15:19I just dropped in for some more water.
00:15:21Well, you know you're welcome to it.
00:15:23As much as you want.
00:15:24Thank you, thank you.
00:15:25The more I hear of this man Allen, the better I like rattlesnakes.
00:15:29Yeah.
00:15:30Of course, selling people property with a big down payment
00:15:33and then running them off is an old trick.
00:15:35But why?
00:15:36So they won't discover he couldn't deliver a fair deed if they didn't pay up.
00:15:40And my guess is he never did own the land.
00:15:42I think you got the right answer, Jeff.
00:15:44That's a rotten way to make money.
00:15:46Allen got a hold of this ranch by a crooked deal.
00:15:48When we find out how he did it, we'll find out what happened to your uncle.
00:15:51If he's done anything to my...
00:15:52Take it easy.
00:15:53We'll stay around here till we get to the bottom of this.
00:15:56The best thing for us to do is to help those settlers out there.
00:15:58If Allen's playing some kind of a game, that'll bring him out into the open.
00:16:02Fuzzy, you stay around here and keep your eyes open.
00:16:04Come on, Jeff, we've got some work to do.
00:16:05Well, the wagon must be loaded by now.
00:16:08I'll be moving along.
00:16:11Mr. Barlow, would a run of honor save your crops?
00:16:13It sure would.
00:16:15Fine.
00:16:15Tell your friends to get their ditches ready.
00:16:17Jeff.
00:16:22Do you mean that those boys are going to open up that creek?
00:16:24Well, they're going to try to, and I'm betting they'll do it.
00:16:26They have guards out there that are armed.
00:16:29So are my partners.
00:16:56What kept you so long?
00:17:10I was afraid I'd have to put in a double shift.
00:17:12We had to stop and rough up that Roberts outfit.
00:17:14The boss was in a hurry to clear him out.
00:17:16He's got another customer waiting for the place.
00:17:18He don't waste much time, does he?
00:17:20I say you don't.
00:17:40How about roughing up some grub, Buck?
00:17:42I'm hungry.
00:17:46Somebody down at that barricade.
00:17:47I'll take care of him.
00:17:55Watch out, Billy.
00:17:56Here he comes.
00:18:00Lay off that stranger.
00:18:01Can't you see that sign?
00:18:07You mean this?
00:18:08What does it say?
00:18:09I can't read.
00:18:11If you try to get through that barricade, I'll shoot.
00:18:14You better drop that rifle, mister.
00:18:15You're liable to get hurt.
00:18:24I'm warning you.
00:18:25Keep away from there.
00:18:27Over there?
00:18:29Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you.
00:18:30I'm hard of hearing, too.
00:20:00Where's the rest of them?
00:20:17Up at the shack.
00:20:21I found the place.
00:20:32Boy, it sure looks like you had yourself a time.
00:20:35Yeah, something like that.
00:20:36You can turn that water back in your creek now, Mr. Barlow.
00:20:39I reckon we can, thanks.
00:20:43All right, men, get your shovels.
00:20:44We're going to have water.
00:20:45Water!
00:20:47What are we going to do with these polecats?
00:20:49What do you know about Jim Blanchard?
00:20:52He owned the robber's place up until a couple of months ago, remember?
00:20:54No, I don't.
00:20:55You're lying.
00:20:56No, I'm not.
00:20:57How should I know?
00:20:59I've only been working for Alan a short time.
00:21:01You know plenty, and you better start talking.
00:21:02Wait a minute, Jeff.
00:21:03Let him go.
00:21:05Now, get out of here while you still have a chance.
00:21:07And tell Alan we're opening that stream, and it better stay open.
00:21:10Beat it.
00:21:15What's the idea, Billy?
00:21:16I want to work him over.
00:21:18After they talk to Alan, he'll know we mean business.
00:21:21Hey, did your uncle have any friends around here that weren't connected with Alan?
00:21:25Yes.
00:21:27There was a lawyer in town.
00:21:28We could go see him.
00:21:30Being seen in town is sure risky, but come on, we'll take a chance.
00:21:41Come in.
00:21:44Mr. Martin?
00:21:45Yes, sir.
00:21:46What can I do for you?
00:21:47We'd like to get some information about Jim Blanchard.
00:21:50I understand you're handling his legal affairs.
00:21:52That's right, I do.
00:21:54What do you want to know about him?
00:21:55We'd like to know where he is.
00:21:57So would I.
00:21:59Sit down, won't you?
00:22:03You mean you don't know where he is?
00:22:05That's what I mean.
00:22:07And I'm not the only one who'd like to know the whereabouts of Jim Blanchard.
00:22:11There's the sheriff, for one.
00:22:12Sheriff?
00:22:13Was he in trouble?
00:22:14I mean, has he done something the law wants him for?
00:22:16Well, no, no, nothing like that.
00:22:17He just disappeared.
00:22:19There's some talk that he packed up and left the country, but I don't believe it.
00:22:23Frankly, I think Jim Blanchard's dead.
00:22:25Murdered.
00:22:28What makes you think that?
00:22:30Have you reason to believe that somebody wanted him out of the way?
00:22:32I have.
00:22:33And that's the case right now.
00:22:35Who do you suspect?
00:22:36I have a right to know.
00:22:38Jim Blanchard is my uncle.
00:22:40We have every reason to suspect Cobb Allen.
00:22:42He and Jim Blanchard have been having some trouble over a land title.
00:22:46Allen claimed your uncle's deed was faulty.
00:22:48Things are beginning to add up, Jeff.
00:22:50We have to have more than suspicion to go on.
00:22:53It's Allen, all right.
00:22:54If he wasn't so sure Uncle Jim wouldn't show up, he wouldn't dare sell that ranch.
00:22:58That's exactly the way the sheriff and I figured it.
00:23:00But the law is helpless without positive proof.
00:23:04And in the meantime, this fellow Allen goes right ahead robbing these settlers, and maybe worse.
00:23:08Can't something be done about that?
00:23:10Nothing, I'm sorry to say.
00:23:13It looks like we'll have to take care of Allen in our own way.
00:23:17Yeah.
00:23:18Now if you're thinking about fighting Allen with six guns, I'd advise against it.
00:23:23I know another young man who got into a lot of trouble by being too quick on the trigger.
00:23:29His name was Billy the Kid.
00:23:39Thanks for the advice.
00:23:41But if Allen's in back of this, he's got to answer for it, and we're going to say that he does.
00:23:45And we'll do it according to law.
00:23:47I'm glad to hear you say that, young man.
00:23:50Where does he hang out?
00:23:51He owns a saloon across the street.
00:23:53I saw him heading in that direction a moment ago.
00:24:01Thanks, Mr. Martin.
00:24:04For everything.
00:24:05Goodbye, boys.
00:24:06Good luck, and be careful.
00:24:08Howdy ho.
00:24:14Howdy.
00:24:15Is Allen around?
00:24:19What's the play, Billy?
00:24:20I don't know yet.
00:24:21Just cover me.
00:24:22Right.
00:24:28Allen?
00:24:30Yeah.
00:24:31I understand you handle most of the land deals in these parts.
00:24:34Why, yes.
00:24:35Interested?
00:24:37Maybe.
00:24:38Is there any place we could talk in private?
00:24:41My office.
00:24:42All right.
00:24:53You know, your face is clearly familiar.
00:24:56I just can't recall the name.
00:24:58The name isn't important, Allen, but this is.
00:25:01What is this, a holdup?
00:25:02You ought to know.
00:25:02You're a past master at it.
00:25:04Now, what do you want?
00:25:05You're giving back every dollar you squeezed out of those settlers in Little Bend Valley,
00:25:08and the Blanchard Ranch deal.
00:25:11I don't know what you're talking about.
00:25:13And I never squeezed any money out of anybody.
00:25:16Just what do you know about the Blanchard deal?
00:25:18Quit your stalling, Allen.
00:25:20I'm wise to the game you're playing.
00:25:22Now open that safe and pay off.
00:25:29Oh, now I know who you are.
00:25:31You are Billy the Kid.
00:25:33Now open that safe or do you want me to pull this trigger?
00:25:36Oh, now, wait a minute.
00:25:37Can't we make a deal?
00:25:38The only deal you'll make with me is to give me that money.
00:25:40Yeah.
00:25:42All right.
00:25:43I'll pay you all.
00:25:46Just a minute, boys.
00:25:47It's all right.
00:25:48Only a little argument.
00:25:58They need you, they'll call you.
00:26:06Say, that sounds like a fight in Allen's office.
00:26:36Come on, get him.
00:27:06Well, well, Dave, what brings you out gallivanting around here?
00:27:37Plenty, Tom.
00:27:38The sheriff is headed this way.
00:27:39There's talk he's looking for Billy the Kid.
00:27:40That's right, Anderson.
00:27:42Isn't it, Jeff?
00:27:42Maybe you'd better tell Allen and the boys about it.
00:27:44Yes, I guess I'd better.
00:27:51What's the trouble, Jeff?
00:27:52The sheriff.
00:27:53He's on his way.
00:27:55What?
00:27:57Where are the horses?
00:27:58Right outside.
00:27:59What's the matter, boys?
00:27:59Has something gone wrong?
00:28:01No, everything's all right.
00:28:02But it looks like we're gonna have to leave you for a couple of days.
00:28:05Isn't this departure rather sudden?
00:28:07Well, yes, it is.
00:28:08But that's the way I always do things, on the spur of the moment.
00:28:12You're not fooling me, Billy.
00:28:13I couldn't help hearing what Jeff said about the sheriff.
00:28:17And if you're worried about me finding out that you're Billy the Kid,
00:28:20you can stop worrying right now, because we've known it ever since you've been here.
00:28:33Hello, Sheriff.
00:28:35You're welcome.
00:28:37Well, I don't like the company you keep.
00:28:39Well, I ain't here for social purposes.
00:28:41And I've got something to say to you, lawbreakers.
00:28:44When the sheriff gets through.
00:28:46All right, Sheriff, go ahead.
00:28:47Well, Allen tells me that you're connected in some way with this outlaw, Billy the Kid.
00:28:52How about it?
00:28:53I don't know what you're talking about.
00:28:55How could we be connected with him?
00:28:57He and one of his cutthroat followers were in my place today.
00:29:01He tried to hold me up for all the money you people paid me for my land.
00:29:05He also said I tricked you into the deal, and you wanted your money back.
00:29:10That's news to us, but at that it isn't far from what we'd like.
00:29:13If we knew what the kid looked like, maybe we could help you.
00:29:18Well, take a good look at this.
00:29:24Well, that's either a mighty poor likeness of Billy the Kid, or we never saw him.
00:29:29Sheriff, you're barking up the wrong tree.
00:29:33Why are you all lying?
00:29:34If you'd like to make this a personal matter, I'd be glad to step outside.
00:29:37Oh, just a minute. We're just wasting time.
00:29:40Tell them what you came here to say.
00:29:41Well, you men broke the law when you tore out my dam.
00:29:44Stealing water is as bad as stealing cattle in this country.
00:29:48I'm giving you three days to pay for the damage.
00:29:50If I'm hauling you into court, I'm taking everything you got.
00:29:54A lot can happen in three days.
00:29:57He's just ornery enough to do what he says.
00:29:59Well, as long as I'm out here, I might as well take a look through the house.
00:30:02Well, I'll help you.
00:30:03Yes, Dave. Go ahead. Help him.
00:30:15Pretty good reward for the capture of Billy the Kid, isn't it?
00:30:18Yes, and a big one.
00:30:20Willing to split it?
00:30:21Well, anybody that helps me catch him won't share in the reward.
00:30:26You know that old shack up in the canyon?
00:30:28Yeah.
00:30:29If you mosey up that way, you might find something interesting.
00:30:32But don't let anyone know I told you.
00:30:34Up the canyon, eh?
00:30:36Yeah, you can sneak out through the kitchen door.
00:30:39Thanks for the tip. I won't forget you.
00:30:51Pretty comfortable, I hope.
00:30:53So it was you that jumped me when I came in here last night.
00:30:57You are Billy the Kid.
00:30:59What are you going to do with me?
00:31:01Just keep you out of circulation for a while, that's all.
00:31:04And I'll tell you why.
00:31:07Billy's taking the blame for jumping the sheriff last night.
00:31:09That puts us in the clear.
00:31:11I'm getting kind of fond of that boy.
00:31:14Well, you see, even though you know that Al and the Swim will be settlers out of their money,
00:31:17there's nothing you can do about it.
00:31:19Maybe I can.
00:31:21But I'll need a free hand for a few days.
00:31:24If I wasn't an officer of the law, I'd wish you luck.
00:31:28But as it is, it's my duty to try to put you behind bars.
00:31:31That's exactly why you're here.
00:31:33So neither one of us will get hurt.
00:31:36Well, now that that's settled,
00:31:38what about some grub?
00:31:41Right away.
00:31:49It's up to you now, Fuzzy.
00:31:51No one has ever seen you with us, so they won't suspect anything.
00:31:54Just leave it to me.
00:31:57And don't forget I'm in that cellar.
00:31:59Don't worry, we'll be right here to cover you if anything happens.
00:32:19Hey, listen, mister.
00:32:26I said I wanted to see Al.
00:32:28I told you Al wasn't here.
00:32:32Now shut up!
00:32:33Who told me to shut up?
00:32:36I did.
00:32:37Did you say that to me?
00:32:42Sit down and keep quiet.
00:32:44Hey, listen, I'm Lawson.
00:32:46I want to stand by your door.
00:32:48Do you have a drink with me?
00:32:49Yes.
00:32:56What do you want to see Al for?
00:32:59Big secret.
00:33:01I promise never to tell it to a human being, so listen.
00:33:06It's treasure, gold, see?
00:33:08It's buried around here someplace on a ranch.
00:33:12But I don't know one ranch from another.
00:33:14That's why I want to see Al, and I got a map.
00:33:16Yeah, let's see it.
00:33:17You know, there's lots of ranches around here.
00:33:19Yeah, I know.
00:33:20That's why I want to see Al, and he knows them all.
00:33:23He can tell me which ones.
00:33:27You see, my friend who wrote me this letter, he's in prison now.
00:33:33He robbed a mine around here about five years ago, and he got $50,000 in gold.
00:33:43There was a robbery here five years ago, and the gold was never found.
00:33:47You see, he wants me to pick up the gold from wherever he buried it, under a house somewhere.
00:33:54But I don't know one ranch from another around here.
00:33:57That's why I want to see Al.
00:33:59He knows them all.
00:34:01Well, my name's Alan.
00:34:03That's fine.
00:34:04I got a map about some gold here.
00:34:06Yeah, I overheard a talk.
00:34:09You come into my office.
00:34:12You're just the fellow I want to see.
00:34:15He knows them all.
00:34:18I never heard of a fellow like somebody in my life, you know.
00:34:23That's another kind of money.
00:34:29Well, now let's see that letter on the map.
00:34:33There's a map over there.
00:34:37Something's wrong here.
00:34:45I can't seem to see something around here.
00:34:48Oh, wait a minute.
00:34:51There it is.
00:34:52Thanks.
00:35:00Hey, you've got to keep mum about this.
00:35:03Now, you've got to have everybody knowing about $7,000 in hidden gold.
00:35:07Sure.
00:35:08I know how to keep a secret.
00:35:34Another minute and we'd have got a look at that map.
00:35:37No, Alan.
00:35:38We'll hog it all.
00:35:39You're right.
00:35:40Every time we run into something good, we never get a look at it.
00:35:46Uh, you fine?
00:35:48Why, uh, yes or no.
00:35:50I'm not sure.
00:35:51I'll have to check up on it.
00:35:53Tell you what you do.
00:35:54You leave the map here for a day or two and I'll go through my files.
00:35:57Uh, that's good.
00:35:59But you had to give me a receipt for it.
00:36:02I owe no arguments when I come back.
00:36:04All right, I'll get you one.
00:36:25Well, here it is.
00:36:27Thanks.
00:36:29Oh.
00:36:34Silly.
00:36:36Uh, I'll be seeing you in about two days, huh?
00:36:39Uh-huh.
00:36:40Day after tomorrow will be okay.
00:36:43Oh, wait a minute.
00:36:44This way now.
00:36:45Yeah?
00:36:50I'll have a seat.
00:36:51Mm-hmm.
00:36:52Goodbye.
00:36:58Harvey, here's your gun.
00:37:06Here he comes.
00:37:11You fellas are my friends.
00:37:13My best friends.
00:37:15I gotta give you some of my gold.
00:37:17I get it.
00:37:19Hey, what happened in there?
00:37:32How'd you make out, buddy?
00:37:34A hundred percent, and here's the receipt for it.
00:37:36I'll bet he'll be out to Robert's place within an hour unless there's another place exactly like it.
00:37:40Well, there isn't.
00:37:41You can be sure of that.
00:37:42Let's get out of here.
00:38:07There's a bunch of Allen's men coming over the hill headed this way.
00:38:10Already?
00:38:11It's fine.
00:38:12Jeff, you go with Barlow.
00:38:14Right.
00:38:15Let me get out of sight, and no matter what happens, stay put.
00:38:17Come on, we gotta get your dad out of here.
00:38:23Looks like we're gonna have some action, Mr. Roberts.
00:38:25What?
00:38:26And you and your father better go in the other room.
00:38:27What's wrong?
00:38:28Never mind, we gotta hurry.
00:38:29Come on.
00:38:46Well, it looks like they've gone away.
00:38:48You stay here, I'll take a look.
00:39:04Hello? Is anybody home?
00:39:33Hello?
00:40:02You won't find Roberts under there.
00:40:15Don't shoot again.
00:40:19Get your hands up, all of you.
00:40:28Get their guns.
00:40:31Tie them up.
00:40:39Rest up.
00:40:43All right, Jeff, take them into town.
00:40:45Right.
00:40:47Take him out there.
00:41:02That ought to take something on there, madam.
00:41:04You certainly gave those cutthroats a taste of their own medicine.
00:41:07What do you suppose they'll do now?
00:41:08I don't think they'll do anything.
00:41:10If I'm not mistaken, Allen will be the next one to show up, and I'm hoping he comes alone.
00:41:14If he does, here's what I want you to do.
00:41:16Now listen, Mr. Roberts.
00:41:17You've got a chance to put this over.
00:41:26Shut up!
00:41:27Come get us out of here!
00:41:43Say, what is it, Baker?
00:41:45A game?
00:41:46Well, it's not the kind of game I like to play.
00:41:48Those settlers jumped us.
00:41:49Oh, the settlers.
00:41:50And what were you doing?
00:41:52Making mud pies?
00:41:53Come into my office.
00:42:03I'm tired of your mistakes, Baker.
00:42:06This is the finish.
00:42:08I'm paying you off.
00:42:09Be a fool.
00:42:21All right.
00:42:22If that's the way you want it.
00:42:24But remember, there's a lot of things you should pay me to forget.
00:42:28The Blanchard murder, for instance.
00:42:31Shut your mouth, or I'll shut it for you.
00:42:34Well, I was only talking.
00:42:36Yeah.
00:42:37That's the trouble with you.
00:42:38You're all talking nothing else.
00:42:40But if you ever babble about that Blanchard deal,
00:42:43I'll fix you so you'll never talk again.
00:42:46You understand?
00:42:48Yeah.
00:42:49All right, get going.
00:42:51Remember what I said.
00:43:06Oh, Greg.
00:43:07Come here a minute.
00:43:18What happened at the Roberts' place?
00:43:20I jumped it.
00:43:21I know that.
00:43:22What else?
00:43:23Well, nothing except, I guess, Billy the Kid's organized the settlers.
00:43:25Oh, so that's it.
00:43:27And it'd take a troop of cavalry to run them Roberts off that place now.
00:43:30Why don't you go out and see what you can do?
00:43:33I think I'll do that.
00:44:03Say, Alan headed out to Little Ben Valley, didn't he?
00:44:07Yeah.
00:44:08Well, you know he ain't fooling me a bit.
00:44:11He's going to buy back the Roberts' place as the quickest way to get rid of them.
00:44:15And why?
00:44:16Because that's where the gold is hidden.
00:44:18How do you know that?
00:44:20I tried to put board in there today,
00:44:22and underneath there was something in two sacks.
00:44:26Pretty soft for Alan.
00:44:28$50,000.
00:44:30It's pretty soft for anyone.
00:44:32Roberts doesn't know it's there.
00:44:34He'd sell out for a song.
00:44:36Why should we let Alan get all the gravy?
00:44:38Well, there's no way to stop it.
00:44:40Sure there is.
00:44:41What do you mean?
00:44:42I've got some money salted away in the cabin.
00:44:45Have you got any?
00:44:46Yeah.
00:44:47You willing to throw in with me?
00:44:48For what?
00:44:49Outbidding Alan.
00:44:51I don't know any easier way of getting $50,000.
00:44:55We'll go by and pick up my money at the cabin,
00:44:57then we'll pay a visit to old man Roberts.
00:45:27Ready?
00:45:57Let's go.
00:46:27This is a dangerous place to hide money.
00:46:28Somebody's liable to find it.
00:46:30If anyone ever got in this cabin besides us,
00:46:32we'd all have ropes around our necks.
00:46:34What do you mean?
00:46:35You remember Blanchard and all the others
00:46:36that disappeared from around here?
00:46:38Yeah.
00:46:39It's funny how they dropped from sight
00:46:40after Alan brought them out.
00:46:42Nobody ever saw them again.
00:46:43No one ever will.
00:46:45You're standing right over where they're buried.
00:46:47What?
00:46:48You want to see them?
00:46:49Never mind.
00:46:50Let's get out of here.
00:46:57Come on.
00:47:18Fuzzy?
00:47:19Where is everybody?
00:47:20I'm a little worried.
00:47:21I don't think you need to, Miss Anna.
00:47:22I think we've got everything under control.
00:47:24I'm glad to hear that.
00:47:26Fuzzy?
00:47:27There's some hot coffee back on the stove.
00:47:51Fuzzy?
00:47:52Yeah, I know.
00:47:53I stay here.
00:47:54That's right.
00:47:57Miss Oliver's fun.
00:48:00First-class watchdog.
00:48:05Hello, Mr. Alan.
00:48:06Why, hello.
00:48:07Come on in.
00:48:08Glad to find you home, Robert.
00:48:10Won't you sit down?
00:48:11Yeah.
00:48:14Sorry to bother you, but I'm in somewhat of a jam.
00:48:17Well, that's too bad.
00:48:18Yeah.
00:48:19It's about this ranch.
00:48:20I made a mistake selling it to you.
00:48:22Mistake?
00:48:23Yeah.
00:48:24But don't you worry.
00:48:25You won't lose any of the investment.
00:48:26I don't understand.
00:48:28Well, naturally, I'll return the investment with interest
00:48:31as soon as you give me a quick claim to you.
00:48:33Well, that's real kind of you, but it won't be necessary.
00:48:36Well, it's the only right thing to do.
00:48:38But I've already made arrangements for the sale of the property.
00:48:40Yes, you see, we thought it wise to sell out
00:48:42because of all the trouble we've been having.
00:48:44Well, you'll have to call off the deal.
00:48:45Well, I can't.
00:48:46It's too late.
00:48:47Well, if you can't, I can.
00:48:49Who are you deckering with?
00:48:50Do I know him?
00:48:51Rumors I've heard.
00:48:52I've got to go.
00:48:53Rumors I've heard?
00:48:54I believe you do.
00:48:59Hello, Billy.
00:49:00Hello, Ann.
00:49:04How are you, Alan?
00:49:06Everything's all set, Mr. Roberts.
00:49:08You give me the assignment of your contract,
00:49:10and I'll give you the money.
00:49:12Is this the man you figure I'm selling to?
00:49:14Yeah.
00:49:15Any objections?
00:49:16But do you know who he is?
00:49:18Certainly.
00:49:19He's Billy Bonney.
00:49:21That may be his right name.
00:49:23But throughout the Southwest, he's known as Billy the Kid.
00:49:26That don't make no difference to me.
00:49:28All I want is my money back.
00:49:30And I'm ready to give it to you.
00:49:32Yeah, but Roberts can't sell that ranch to you.
00:49:35Stick around long enough, and you'll find out that he can.
00:49:37Yeah, but he hasn't a clear title.
00:49:39There was a mistake made in the deed.
00:49:41I'll take my chances on that.
00:49:43Not so fast.
00:49:46You paid $5,000 on your contract.
00:49:48That's right.
00:49:49I'll give you a bonus of $500.
00:49:51You will?
00:49:52And I'll double that bonus.
00:49:53Are you serious?
00:49:54I was never more serious in my life.
00:49:56Well, so am I.
00:49:58And I'll raise his bet $1,000.
00:50:00Let's see, that makes $7,000.
00:50:03Did you ever hear of Alan giving money away?
00:50:05I can't say that I have.
00:50:06That's what I thought.
00:50:08$7,500.
00:50:09I'll make it $8,000.
00:50:14What are you buttoning for?
00:50:15We're getting tired of being kicked from pillar to post.
00:50:18Yeah, we're going to settle down and be gentleman farmers.
00:50:21Now, you men will be sorry for this.
00:50:22I don't think so.
00:50:23Well, do your squabbling outside.
00:50:25I've changed my mind about selling.
00:50:27But you can do that.
00:50:29I'll give you $10,000.
00:50:30There's something going on I don't know anything about.
00:50:32No, there isn't.
00:50:33And why are you willing to pay twice as much as we invested to get the property back?
00:50:38Well, if word gets out the deed is faulty,
00:50:41I'll have all the other settlers on my neck.
00:50:43That sounds reasonable.
00:50:45Or do you sell for me?
00:50:47Why, yes.
00:50:48The others are through bidding.
00:50:50Well, I haven't even started yet.
00:50:52I'll give you $11,000.
00:50:54That goes for us, too.
00:50:55$12,000.
00:50:56$13,000.
00:50:57$14,000.
00:50:58$15,000.
00:50:59$16,000.
00:51:01$17,000, Mr. Roberts.
00:51:03I guess you bought something.
00:51:04Well, now, wait a minute.
00:51:06I want to talk to Baker and Grant.
00:51:08Go ahead.
00:51:09Take all the time you want.
00:51:14You spoiled this deal for me.
00:51:16You signed up for getting the kid, didn't you?
00:51:19I wonder how much he knows.
00:51:20From the way he's bidding, I'd say plenty.
00:51:22Yeah.
00:51:27We're cutting each other's throats.
00:51:29You know that, don't you?
00:51:30That's what you get for trying to hog it all for yourself.
00:51:33Let's pool our money and drive the kid out.
00:51:35Hey.
00:51:37How much you got?
00:51:38We've got $16,000 between us.
00:51:41Let me have it.
00:51:43Remember, that's a partnership.
00:51:56I'm going to turn you loose, Sheriff.
00:51:58If you do, I'm going to put you behind bars.
00:52:00I'll just have to take that chance.
00:52:02You run the Billy the Kid, don't you?
00:52:04Well, you've been pals for a long while.
00:52:06You're pals and you're turning me loose?
00:52:08Why?
00:52:09Why?
00:52:10You'll understand when I tell you who I am.
00:52:14Well, who are you?
00:52:15Jeff Blanchard.
00:52:17In relation to Jim?
00:52:18He was my uncle.
00:52:19Did you say was?
00:52:21Yes, he's been murdered.
00:52:22I just found his body.
00:52:23Where?
00:52:24In a shack where Alan and his men hang out.
00:52:26I'll tell you more about it as we ride.
00:52:34$23,000.
00:52:36Say, what do you want this place for?
00:52:38The same reason you do.
00:52:39And what's that?
00:52:41Well, this ranch is the only source of water in the valley.
00:52:43That makes it pretty valuable.
00:52:45You'll never get your money back selling water rights to settlers.
00:52:48You seem to think you can.
00:52:51$25,000, and that's my limit.
00:52:53I want to remind both of you this is a cash sale.
00:52:56Money right on the line.
00:52:58Well, in that case, I guess I'm through.
00:53:00I haven't got that much with me.
00:53:01You're going more ways than one.
00:53:03I want immediate possession.
00:53:05We'll be out of here so quick it'll make your head swim.
00:53:08Make me out a quick, plain deed in my favor.
00:53:11Right away.
00:53:13If you know what's good for you,
00:53:15you'll hightail it out of these parts.
00:53:17That might be a good suggestion.
00:53:20I sure wanted this place, Alan,
00:53:22but I'll have to admit you beat me this time.
00:53:25No hard feelings?
00:53:26Not at all.
00:53:28Goodbye, Ann.
00:53:29Goodbye, Billy.
00:53:36Oh.
00:53:52That's Jim Blanchard.
00:53:55There's others down there, too.
00:54:01I'm sure you'll find all the evidence you need
00:54:03to pin the killings on Alan and the land office records.
00:54:06That's what I'm hoping.
00:54:08Well, how about Billy and me?
00:54:11Well, as far as you're both concerned,
00:54:12I'm going to be deaf, dumb, and blind for the next 24 hours.
00:54:16That's mighty white of you, Sheriff.
00:54:18Before you hit the trailers, one thing I wish you'd let us do.
00:54:21Name it.
00:54:23Help you round up Alan and the rest of them.
00:54:25I know right where they are.
00:54:28It's a deal.
00:54:33Come on.
00:54:40I sure like them.
00:54:41They're mighty fine people.
00:54:44What are you hanging around for?
00:54:46I just wanted to make sure they got away all right.
00:54:49Satisfied?
00:54:50Yeah.
00:54:52I won't bother you boys any longer.
00:54:54Good hunting.
00:54:58You stay out here.
00:54:59Keep your eyes open.
00:55:00Come on.
00:55:03Everything go up all right?
00:55:04Just like clockwork.
00:55:06We'll give those settlers back every dime that Alan got from them.
00:55:09And a little extra for their trouble.
00:55:10Will Jeff know where to find us?
00:55:11Sure.
00:55:12Come on.
00:55:27Gold is sure heavy, isn't it?
00:55:28Maybe too heavy for me.
00:55:34Why, we've been jerked.
00:55:41Why, the dirty crook.
00:55:45Well, what about the map and the letter from the man in prison?
00:55:48Oh, it's all a frame-up.
00:55:49Billy, the kid can't get away with this.
00:55:55Which way did the kid go?
00:55:56Down the road towards the fort.
00:55:57Why, did something go wrong?
00:55:58Plenty. Come on.
00:56:03Let's go.
00:56:24Ann says you closed the deal, Billy.
00:56:26That's right, Mr. Barlow.
00:56:27Here's the money.
00:56:28Well, Mellie, we certainly appreciate it.
00:56:45Billy, I guess we all owe you a vote of thanks for what you've done.
00:56:48That's all right, Mr. Roberts.
00:56:49We were glad to be able to do it.
00:56:51Here you are, Mr. Barlow.
00:56:52This extra is a sort of a bonus.
00:56:54You know, for that sheriff deal.
00:56:55Thanks.
00:56:58Well, look who's coming.
00:56:59Alan and his toy poodle.
00:57:05Wait a minute.
00:57:06This is our fight.
00:57:08You folks stay out of it and nobody will get hurt.
00:57:10Good luck.
00:57:11Good luck, boy.
00:57:22They're going for them where they are.
00:57:28Boop, boop, boop, boop.
00:57:52After Billy.
00:57:59Hold it, Sheriff.
00:58:00Wait a minute, men.
00:58:01You're interfering with law and order.
00:58:02Law or no law, we're not going to let you take Billy the kid.
00:58:05Billy the kid?
00:58:06Don't believe I ever heard of him.
00:58:08We're looking for Alan and his gang of gunmen.
00:58:10Have you seen them?
00:58:11They just left here three minutes ago to catch Fuzzy and Billy.
00:58:14Why in thunder didn't you say so?
00:58:16Come on, Sheriff.
00:58:28Come on.
00:58:59Boop, boop, boop, boop.
00:59:23The Sheriff.
00:59:24He's got Jeff.
00:59:25He thinks he's got Jeff.
00:59:29Just a minute, Sheriff.
00:59:32You hear a noise around here, Jeff?
00:59:34Don't believe I did.
00:59:35It's all right, Billy.
00:59:36We're after Alan.
00:59:37We've got the goods on him.
00:59:38We want him for the murder of Jim Blanchard.
00:59:40But we don't want to be stopped by every cowboy in the county.
00:59:43Come on, Jeff.
00:59:47In that case, you got yourself a party.
00:59:59Come on.
01:00:00Come on.
